Look Who's Leading the League in Batting Average

Yesterday's five hits also propelled Jorge Polanco to the top of the AL in batting average. He's hitting .344 with Michael Brantley second checking in at .340. Great to see a Twin leading the league again.

It’s unbelievable what he is doing right now. Not only the average....11 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs, 15 walks vs 20 k’s, and an OPS approaching 1.100 in around 150 PAs.

This goes back through a significant portion of last year as well. We’re starting to exit SSS territory. He’s been one of best hitters in the American Leage for nearly a full season (I think it’s Gleeman I need to credit there, but correct if I’m wrong).

This actually goes back to the August/September of 2017.  Polanco's final 55 games were in the .950-1000 range.

He's got an an .860+ OPS in his last 165 games and in his last ~650 ABs.

Outside of small sample size period especially when he's done it over 3 separate seasons meaning its not just a case of being locked in for a period of time during 1 season.

Goodness... those are MVP numbers.

Other top-of-the-league numbers include Rosario's 13 homers, Berrios's six wins, and the team's four shutouts and .495 slugging percentage.

I thought he looked leak proof last year at the plate.

I worry about everyone from year to year, I never pencil in players to repeat, improve or decline... but I honestly had Polanco at the bottom of my worry list.

I thought he turned a corner and I was planning on a nice year.... although I was not planning on this nice of a year. And I paid a good chunk of my available auction money for him to play SS for my fantasy team... to back my conviction.

More power to Polanco... Keep it up.

This has been a cbu.

The Twins are looking good because their team is stocked with guys that are real ballplayers, not just athletes trained to play baseball. Guys like Eddie Rosario and Jorge Polanco, that love the game, with all its glorious bluffs and tricks and spectacular plays. You can add A-Stud to that list, and Gonzo, and I think Cruz and Schoop. Garver and Cron seem to love the game, as does Castro. Certainly Berrios loves the game, and Gibson. This team has a lot of player's players. I'd keep playing those guys.
