I mean, it is not going to happen, but Machado would actually make a ton of sense.  He could play SS for two years until Lewis is ready and Sano is ready to move to 1B. And then we flip Polanco or Gordon (after he starts off hot in AAA) for pitching.

Well, technically the Twins signed Kirby Puckett as a free agent after the 1992 season. He was coming off arguably his best season.

The headline was, of course, misleading. It was an article about an article that had no evidence or sources, just speculation.
