ashbury Verified Member Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 All defenders, even the very best ones, make bad judgments on plays. Hunter was a GREAT CF for us and at least twice during the playoffs, he made HUGE errors in judgment on balls he thought he could get to and couldn't. Didn't mean he wasn't great, just meant he made some bad calls. Never been a perfect defender. All I demand is perfection in the games I pay for a ticket to see.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 Meanwhile, we've seen the opposite of perfection from the offense today.

ashbury Verified Member Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 Loooosah. No chicken dinnah today.

He has the ability to be a great defender.I'm willing to cut Cave some slack, but "great" seems to be off the table by now. We have a great CF to compare to as a benchmark. And Cave is a year older than him, and has nearly 1000 more innings of minor league experience in CF. I mark him down as potentially "adequate". The bar is set high, in center.

If HE is the barometer, there's might only be one great CF in the game :-) Remember when KC had Cain and Dyson available for CF?
jkcarew Verified Member Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 His homerun last night is his only hit in his last 21 AB. 9 K, 2 BB in that span. Well, he looked like a MLB hitter for about 2 weeks anyway.Sometimes the box score doesn’t tell the story...today he hit the ball all over the yard and will end up with about the same box score as the DH, who didn’t get a ball out of the infield in 5 trips. But do agree that he had been K’ing too much again.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 26, 2018 Author Posted August 26, 2018 well, there's great and then there's what Buxton is. If HE is the barometer, there's might only be one great CF in the game :-)This starts to get into the semantics that plague every discussion of "Ace".

TB has Kiermaier, Boston has JBJ, Cincinnati has BIlly Hamilton - three who come to mind, I'm sure there are others. If Buxton is the best of these, it's not head and shoulders better. Cave on his best day will never be on a par with these great fielders, IMO. He would be there by now, if he could.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Has anyone claimed the next thread of games? We’re not scheduling game threads to the end of the season. Some have signed up to do them. If it’s within an hour of game time and no thread has gone up, go ahead and start one. That goes for anyone. You want a thread and one isn’t there already, start it up.
