Kemp

For me, the question in acquiring Kemp is what Dodger's prospects your money can buy if you take on a significant portion of his contract. I would dream on Dennis Santana, but I don't know if he's attainable.

I bet he's just cut at some point. But, if they want to give up a really elite prospect for some millions, I consider it. But only if that doesn't impact the FA budget....they need pitching.

I'm more on board with a good defensive OF than I was a couple of years ago, but it looks like both Kemp's and Bautista's defensive woes stem from a lack of range (duh, they're old and slow). That was the same issue that plagued Torii Hunter in Detroit, then he came to Minnesota and his range issues up and disappeared within the cozy confines of Target Field's RF corner.

But Kemp isn't terribly high on my list. I'd be curious but not jubilant.

I think the starting OF does allow a more offensive minded 4th OF type, who would likely get most of his PAs at DH anyways.

I don't think Granite makes the opening day roster right now as constructed, someone like Kemp would be competing against Grossman.

that is one mega word / run on sentence                :)

Thanks for pointing that out - I will edit.  I have been having trouble with my posts - hopefully not this one - where the spaces disappear.

No-he has been with a number of clubs and seems to be toxic and under performs. Why would you want to expose our good young players to this type of "veteran" presence?

Call me crazy, but I don't hate the idea of the Twins picking up Kemp .... "picking up" as in claiming him after the Dodgers have released him. I definitely don't think he's worth giving up good prospects for. But Kemp has been fairly productive with the Braves the past 2 years and if he was confined to a DH and/or PH role, I think he'd be a good addition. I also don't think he'd be the clubhouse cancer than some fear. From what I read last year, his attitude has gotten much better since he left the Dodgers and Padres, realizing that he needs to put forth more effort (both on and off the field)if he wants to stick around. The biggest problem with Kemp at this point is that he is injury-prone (maybe playing in the AL and keeping him out of the outfield will help?) and he's not exactly fleet of foot any longer. But the guy can still hit.

You're crazy....but it has nothing to do with Matt Kemp.

While I like Kemp, I don't think he's a good fit for the Twins. We already have Grossman, no need for an expensive version of him. Especially if $ an years are gonna be a factor in getting Darvish.

WhiIe I understand we have a great need for a right handed bat, Kemp, Escobar, Adrianza, Grossman, the answer. I think it's time for Danny Valencia to make a return to Minnesota. I know in past he's been a club house head case, but I think he's maybe matured a bit. Playing for Toronto, Oakland, Seattle, Baltimore, Boston has probably humbled him, since he's been surrounded by superstars such as Jose Bautista, Nelson Cruz, Robinson Cano, David Ortiz, Josh Donaldson, etc. Also he's not just a 3rd baseman anymore he probably play any position with competency, except for pitcher and catcher. His main positions are LF, RF, 3rd, and 1st. Most importantly Valencia destroys lefty pitcher, just look at his platoon splits! IMO I Valencia could be a game changer for any playoff team, and could definitely take the pressure and fatigue off of our young team's starters during the long season grind.

3:53 Are the cubs in on a trade for Matt Kemp?

Steve Adams
3:53 I don't think the Cubs are actively trying to downgrade their roster.

Any team that trades for him and let's the Dodgers off the hook for any of his contract is foolish. Make them eat the money. I can't imagine with his reputation that he's going to have too many sizable free agent bids for his services.

I'd do a Phil Hughes for Matt Kemp, Walker Buehler and Jordan Sheffield.

Swap Kepler, Gordon and Romero (and low filler) for Chris Archer.

The Padres were willing to pay Olivera's contract to get Kemp out of the clubhouse.  Olivera a domestic abuser who is out of baseball.  Atlanta's owner called him out for being fat and out of shape.  He showed up last year supposedly with a new body and new attitude only to finish the season fat and once again a clubhouse cancer.  Anthropolous' first priority was figuring out how to get him out of the clubhouse so much so that he was willing to add $25 million to the 2018 payroll for him to leave.  The Dodgers would give away a couple prospects for someone to take just a portion of his money.  If things don't  go well, the old Kemp would resurface quickly.

I don't see them moving a Santana.  They would eat the money like they did Carl Crawford's last year before moving Santana.

If he's released all you'd need to pay him is the minimum about 600K. If he's a problem or doesn't play hard you cut him, the money would be meaningless. Plus Pohlad is getting a big tax cut he should use it to create some more baseball jobs or lower beer prices.

I agree....

1:11 Re: Kemp, since a team would probably be paying next to nothing for him, you really think that a team like the Twins wouldn't at least bring him to spring training to see if he can work out as a DH?  We're talking about a spot currently occupied by Robbie Grossman...

Dave Cameron
1:12 Grossman is better than Kemp.
