Who else gets traded?

As I said in another thread, I'd trade Santana, Kintzler, Dozier, any warm bodies from the bullpen and stockpile arms. Then, trade a bunch of them off to Oakland for Sonny Gray, a 27 year old Ace that's not a free agent until 2019 or 20. Then with Gray and Berrios, you can start building your staff.

I just read that trade discussions with the Yanks have cooled off and at a impasse. Oakland's GM said maybe we will wait until the off season to trade Gray. By then the Twins should be well positioned to make a serious offer.

Why aren't the Twins in on the Gray market? He has 2 more years of control and we will need pitching the next 2 years.

Because if you pay for Gray you are paying for the remainder of this year as well.

That's a steep additional price when we don't particularly need him anymore this year.

You wouldn't pay for a 36 month lease on a vehicle if you didn't need it until month 8, especially in an environment without a fixed price where you are bidding against people who desperately DO need it right away.

The purpose of drafting Buxton was that he would be a perpetual all-star, 5-tool player.  The reality is he is either a 4th OF of the defensive guy between two slow-footed, but big hitting corner OFers.  His performance doesn't really fit with the OF the Twins have.  Buxton might be very highly valued by someone else who would send some very good prospects--say 2 pitchers and a catcher--that the Twins vitally need.  Clearly ~.200 hitting CF with only a few HRs isn't what the Twins need in CF.

This would be an off-season trade.

This sort of sounds like a kid named Gomez circa 2010.

I would if I really needed said vehicle.

He is owed 1.3 for the rest of the year that's nothing.

My Predictions for our pieces if traded on Monday:
Kintzler to the Brewers for Marcos Diplan (We eat all of Kintzlers $$)
Santana to the Astros for Franklin Perez and Cionel Perez, (and if we eat $$ Alcala)
Escobar to the DBacks for Anthony Banda and Christian Walker
Rosario to the Dodgers for Gavin Lux and Jordan Sheffield
Grossman to the Rays for Resly Linares
Dozier to the Dodgers, Rockies, DBacks, Rays, or Brewers this offseason...unless the Rockies offer Pint and change or the Rays offer Adames or Honeywell (Which they won't)

Thoughts??

I think just Kintzler is going.

After him I'd rank likelihood:

Grossman

Santana

Escobar

Belisle (much more likely in August)

Don't see how anyone else goes tomorrow.

Prospect cost, not money.

I believe Kintzler is probably traded. I also believe he could end up being the classic "re-sign with previous team" type of FA rental.

Santana brings real value to the 2018 Twins. He is traded only when the Astros, or a similar team, decide their window of opportunity is too great to ignore, so they look at said opportunity, and their system, and push some of their chip pile in to "go for it" and decide to part with a pair of quality top 20 system prospects.

Giminez and Belisle go in smaller deals, possibly/probably after the deadline. Brings back SOMETHING and opens a spot for Garver and another prospect to come up.

I just don't know that I see a team "needing" Dozier until the off season when they evaluate their rosters.

NOBODY that is contending at the deadline wants to saddle themselves on having to rely on anybody but Santana to win themselves a playoff game!

How about we all take a step back and realize that trades can happen anytime for 9 months of every year and not only at the deadline. In Nov-Feb EVERY team is in play, not just those in contention.

OUR thought of years of control/cost effectiveness is actually a detriment to some other teams who are "going for it" with the idea of a fire sale if it doesn't work.

I don't remember seeing or hearing anyone saying that.

It's one thing to rely on a guy like Santana to win a playoff game, and another thing to have a guy like Santana in the rotation to make sure you're competitive in that spot every 5th game. There's still 60 or so games of baseball left.

Side note, but I doubt many teams have 4 starters better than Santana, even with his bad outings of late and poor peripherals. He would be starting playoff games if acquired.
