drjim Provisional Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Melotakis makes so little sense, he seems to have some value. He seems like a legit fit for this bullpen right now. Any chance the Twins have a trade in place but needed to make the move now to get guys called up?The answer to your question is no. If Melotakis was a fit, they would have likely called him up over 2 guys not on the 40. It will remain to be seen if the front office can evaluate pitching, but we do tend to overrate marginal relievers in the minors, though perhaps fairly considering the current state of the major league pen.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Wimmers and Mason Melotakis are DFAd. Melo? wow. They really don't like the guys from this organization's past much.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 John Curtiss up to Rochester. that's good

FO was right about Park at the end of Spring despite catching grief But there, they kept Park, and got the benefit of stashing him in AAA and keeping an additional 40-man spot open; here, they'll likely lose Melotakis, and the only immediate benefit is rostering Gee (who could have taken Breslow's spot instead). wabene 1

Yeah I would remove Breslow too but maybe Melo just isn't responding

AAA performance has justified the move (or non-move for that matter).

But when the front office decided not to add Park back to the roster, they still kept him and kept a 40-man spot free for other use. There was no risk of losing any players there -- actually adding Park back to the roster would have risked losing someone else. Their choice was actually the risk-averse option. That's not the case here -- Melotakis is at risk of being lost. Might ultimately be a fine decision, but it's not really comparable to keeping Park off the roster.

I see it more as a Turley vs. Melotakis decision. Even after those three big league starts the FO is keeping Turley and DFA'ing Melotakis. Interesting. wabene 1

Melotakis 91 as a reliever. Pretty simple math, actually.
Han Joelo Verified Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 In hindsight, maybe the fact Rosario got that call-up a while back and Melo didn't should have been a harbinger. The writing was being written on the wall. Speaking of that word, maybe that can be Hildenberger's nickname, instead of Trevor Hindenberger. The Trevor (The Harbinger of Doom) Hildenberger.
ashbury Verified Member Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Trevor (The Harbinger of Doom) Hildenberger.Catchy, but my money is on "Hildy" being what sticks.
