Deck Chairs Update: Pressly for Wimmers

He's suffering from im-not-good-enough-to-pitch-in-the-majors-itus.

My guess is that the way it plays out is that Santiago will be the 26th man for the double header Saturday. Belisle is released after the double header. Gibson starts Sunday and gets demoted (or released). Haley replaces him Monday. So, yes, I guess I am expecting Nik Turley to show enough Friday against Cleveland to remain in the rotation ahead of Gibson.

Santiago is on the DL. Not eligible to be 26th.

Interesting theory though

C. Disabled List
Application by a Club to the Commissioner to place a Player on the
Disabled List shall be accompanied by a Standard Form of Diagnosis
(see Attachment 5), a copy of which shall be provided to the Player and
the Association. The Standard Form of Diagnosis shall be completed
by the Club physician and shall include, as a separate item, an estimated
time period for recovery. The Club physician will also complete
and submit the Standard Form of Diagnosis for recertification of a
Player on the Disabled List at the date when he first becomes eligible
for reinstatement to active status and then every fifteen days following
the date upon which the Player first became eligible for reinstatement
(except for Players placed on the 60-day Disabled List). In addition
to the Standard Form of Diagnosis, the Office of the Commissioner
may request that a Club provide additional information in support of a
Disabled List placement before the application is approved by the
Commissioner. The Club shall provide a copy of such additional information
to the Association.

The above is from the 2012 CBA (the one I was looking at.)  I can't find the part about "second opinion always required."

Can you point me to it?

Since the new CBA is not yet available in digital form yet there really isn't much point to this argument of who is wrong.  It costs money for 2 doctors so I doubt mlb would go for it. The old cba it was the player option, which you could have pointed out like this

D. Second Medical Opinion
Within 20 days following the execution of this Agreement, the Clubs
shall provide an updated, accepted listing of medical specialists, by
specialty and by geographic region, to whom Players may upon their
request go for diagnosis and a second medical evaluation of an
employment related illness or injury being treated by the Club physician.
At least two board-certified physicians shall be designated for
each specialty in each of the geographic regions, and all the physicians
on the list shall be board-certified in an appropriate medical specialty.
The Commissioner’s Medical Advisory Committee, in consultation
with a medical professional designated by the Association, shall
review and update the list of specialists on an annual basis. The Association
shall have 30 days from the date of receiving an updated list
within which to recommend additions to or deletions from the list.
Prior to undergoing a “second evaluation,” a Player shall inform the Club
in writing of his decision to seek a second medical opinion, and the name
of the physician who will be performing the diagnosis and medical
evaluation. A Player may seek a “second evaluation” from a medical
specialist on the accepted listing who is located outside of the geographic
region within which the Player’s Club is located, provided that the Player
is not absent from the Club for an unreasonable period of time.
If a Player uses the services of a medical specialist who is on the
accepted listing, the Club shall pay the cost of the “second evaluation,”
including transportation and hotel costs.
Expenses for “second evaluations” by medical specialists who are not
on the accepted listing shall be authorized and paid only by prior written
agreement between the Player and the Club.
(See Attachment 35.)

He would be "eligible". Today is day 10. Doesn't sound like he's ready though.

hes on the major league DL, they'd need to option him to AAA first. Why would you short-hand yourself for the next 10 days in the middle of this string of consecutive games played?

I don't think that is how it would work. If he were ready, I'm pretty sure he would be allowed to be added as the 26th man straight from the DL. I certainly would see no reason why that wouldn't be allowed.

It's a moot point. He isn't ready nor apparently will Haley be anytime soon.

you need to be active to be the 26th man. DL is inactive.

Indeed moot... hate to say it, but they could really use his help

Do you have a link to something that shows this process?

That seems like a lot of work, considering I've seen dl announcements as soon as 20 minutes after a game.

If that process does exist, I'd guess those doctors are just rubber stamping everything.

There is no way 3 separate doctors are giving legit exams within 20 minutes.

According to the cub reporter (unofficial but seems to be a decent source) an injury needs to be verified for the player to be placed on the DL. I'm not sure of the mechanics, but that does seem to call for an independent second evaluation.

Sounds like Wilk, Busenitz and Wimmers arriving.

Will it be Wilk on the 25 for game 1(sending down Turley), Wimmers as the 26th man and Busenitz not called up until game 2 (sending down Wilk)?

Can they make the move like this between games? Can they do it with the 40 also? Wilk being removed from the 25 and 40 following game 1 so they can add Busenitz?

Berardino thought Hughes was going to the 60 day DL.

Not sure if you can make that move between games... interesting

The article was dated for 2012, the CBA was signed in 2016. Either your source went back to the future or, more likely, your source is out of date information.

Someone will have to move off the 40. Heston was moved off for Wilk. Can Wilk be moved off for Busenitz game 2? If not, it could be Hughes to the 60.

Ryan Pressly is being sent back down to make room on the active roster for Wilk.  Wimmers is the 26th man for the second game.  If Busenitz is indeed in town, Wilk would presumably be sent back down to make room for him on the active roster.  I'm guessing Hughes is going to the 60 day DL to make room on the 40 man.

Wimmers is the 26 th man for both games. If indeed Busenitz is activated (he hasn't been so far), he would likely replace Wilk on the 25 man.

Wow, this is becoming "street hustler with ball and cups" stuff. If things don't turn around soon, they can't stick with "only" 12 pitchers much longer, can they?
