Steve Pearce?

Curious to see what others think about Steve Pearce as a supplemental addition for 2017. Injured late in the season so his chance to get a 2 or 3 year deal probably went down the toilet. Steve Adams says here he could be available on an incentive-laden 1 year deal, perhaps with option.

 

He offers a high OBP with some pop and positional flexibility, mostly at 2B and corner OF (not great with the glove anywhere but near-average). If a Dozier trade is imminent, this maybe makes even more sense. Hadn't seen Pearce mentioned so I thought I'd throw it out there. I've always liked his game and he seems to be blooming late to some extent.

Steve Pearce was a Twin once and they cut him at Spring Training because he was not good enough I guess.

 

Regarding his positions: DH/1B/LF might be it.  2B is a joke

I always forget he was one of us once. I swear I've been told that like 14 times but I can never retain that knowledge.

 

I mean, SSS for sure, but per UZR and DSR, he grades out pretty average at 2B. I can't say I've watched him defensively to give an eye test report, but the numbers ain't bad.

Pearce could have the worse range at 2B in history, and he'll be 34 a couple weeks into next season :-)

No thanks, we need to go with younger guys first over someone like Pearce.

He was hurt the entire spring and didn't do anything to earn a spot. 

 

And to answer the question, they have enough 1B/DH types.

Yeah, I fail to see how any scenario that removes Dozier and adds Pearce makes this a better team.
