jimmer Verified Member Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 At work, this site pops up as an unsafe site. And when I access it on my phone, weird stuff pops up if I am on for any decent amount of time.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Is anyone else getting ads mostly for women's clothing? Like, all the time?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Is anyone else getting ads mostly for women's clothing? Like, all the time?Lol ... I never noticed. If I were, I would just chalk it up to my online activity and wouldn't think anything of it as I mostly shop online. Shoe ads come up quite a lot for me ... again, I think it's normal. Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Is anyone else getting ads mostly for women's clothing? Like, all the time? I think we're getting a good idea of what you do on the weekends given the ad choices... Craig Arko, ashbury, Squirrel and 2 others 5
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 It happens at work, where I am not logged in and am anonymous, I'd guess.....it is also happening on the main vikings site I go to. Very odd indeed.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 (edited) What I am getting is something that forces a scroll to the bottom of the page. Constantly. On iPad Safari. Edited March 14, 2017 by Craig Arko
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 What I am getting is something that forces a scroll to the bottom of the page. Constantly. On iPad Safari.See, that doesn't happen to me but very rarely, and I'm using my iPad when I'm on TD 75% of the time.

diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I don't get ads for women's clothes or shoes either. Still the occasional mail-order bride. I'll take the mail order bride over the Whitesox ticket ads that keep popping up over here. Don't tell my wife that though. Vanimal46, snepp and Mike Sixel 3
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Since I commented, I am now getting ads for Dick's sporting goods and single women over 40....and women's clothing..... Edited March 15, 2017 by Mike Sixel Craig Arko and snepp 2
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Seriously considering tracking my ads on various sites now. I am kind of fascinated. Now getting Harry's razors ads. Is there any way that is related to getting an email from dollar shave that my order shipped?
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 My understanding is that they can track your search behaviors with cookies. As an example, if I start shopping around for running shoes or electronic devices, the ads will change almost immediately to highlight those items... usually too late, but I'm guessing it's tracking cookies they are keying off of. That's something Brock could answer better than myself. I'm more infrastructure/security. He's a web developer.
ashbury Verified Member Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Is anyone else getting ads mostly for women's clothing? Like, all the time?Via snail mail, yes. It started around when I got married. The sysadmin still hasn't tracked down the cause. Mike Sixel 1
snepp Verified Member Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I just scored myself another fantasic russian bride, albeit on the office computer. Makes you wonder what the office lady is doing in here during the day. Mike Sixel, Squirrel and Vanimal46 3
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 I really wonder who is on the other end of these ads. I mean, I'm now getting ads for CA technologies ... I mean ... wth is that? Me getting any kind of technology ads is really funny. Also getting ads for xfinity and 1800flowers. Oh, and there's PayPal at the bottom of the thread. Hmm.

I don't wanna know. snepp and Mike Sixel 2
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Remember when one of the ad boxes here was a quiz? That was fun. Now that small talk is over, can you share your google history so I can score a mail order bride?

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Maybe you are getting my ads, and I'm getting your ads? I prefer to believe that each of us has secret lives to those around us but not to those who monitor our computers. Uh, wait a minute ... is my microwave turned off?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) Interestingly, since I started tracking ads, I have not received one shoe or women's clothing ad....on any site. Edited March 16, 2017 by Mike Sixel
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Today I still have the flowers, but the others are all different ... Allstate, Spectrum internet, Nissan, American Red Cross ... interesting as I have not done any 'internetting' on insurance, internet, cars or donations. And, further, I don't use Allstage or Spectrum internet, don't drive a Nissan and never have, nor do I donate to the Red Cross. Oh, and I go to a local flower shop when I want to send flowers.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Today I'm getting wedding ring ads. Look, my anniversary is next month, but there is no way I'm buying more jewelry. No way. snepp 1
