According to MLBTR the Padres want to move Derek Norris.

27 years old, entering his 2nd year arbitration after a down 2016 (first half at least). 

 

He rates as exactly league average at CS% and is above average at catcher framing.

 

The Twins should make an offer IMO. He and Centeno would make a good pair in 2017. JRM is a bust.

He will probably be grabbed before Suzuki. So I doubt the Twins would be in contention. Best bet would be to overpay in the offseason for Ramos. But overpaying for a catcher is not something you really want to do.

Depends how low. I'd take a chance on him but with two years of disappointing production I'm not sure I'd want to give up anything too regretful.

 

I was wondering if they could work a three team deal where the contending team gets Suzuki as his current play is probably more attractive for the remainder of 2016. Then the Twins would likely have to give up lesser auxillery pieces.

I admit I haven't followed the Padres that closely (who does). Maybe there's something up with Norris I'm not considering. But statistically speaking he and Ramos are at opposite ends of the regression spectrum:

 

Ramos is having a 140 OPS+ season against a career avg 100+. His BABIP is .055 points above his career avg.

Norris is having a 66 OPS+ season against a career avg 96. His BABIP is .057 pts below his career avg.

 

Also noticed Norris is listed at 230 pounds on BB-ref. If you think that sounds high for a catcher, Ramos is listed at 255! Those figures really are worthless.

Since Lucroy rebuffed the Indians, I'd offer the Tribe Suzuki & Palka for hot prospect, Francisco Mejia.  Go with Centeno, Murphy & whatever cast-offs they can for a year or two until he's ready.

I expect the Indians are "on the horn" to the Braves (there's a mouthful) about acquiring AJ to end the season.

Murphy is only 25 years and 2 months old ... who is to say that he isn't having a down year and will bounce back? Too early, in my opinion, to give up on him. That said, we can't rely on him, given what he's shown with the Twins and at AAA.

Why would you say that? It worked out so well when the Twins invested $23M/yr in a catcher a few years back, the name escapes me at the moment...

I wanted them to trade Plouffe for Norris last offseason. If they both clear waivers, that's a trade I'd still make.
