ppearson50 Provisional Member Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 We apparently aren't going to spend any money on relievers this year. Why not throw 8 or 9 million dollars at Austin Jackson as a 4th outfielder who can play all 3 outfield positions and mash lefties. He is still unsigned and I remember the Twins talking about possibly signing an outfielder. A Jackson signing would mean we wouldn't have to watch Sano and Arcia in the same outfield.

Sano and Arcia aren't going to be in the same outfield. If Arcia is getting major OF time, its going to be because Sano is DH'ing or playing 3B. Austin Jackson is not a 4th Outfielder, and if he does take a 1 year prove it deal it isn't going to be with the Twins as a backup
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Sano and Arcia aren't going to be in the same outfield. If Arcia is getting major OF time, its going to be because Sano is DH'ing or playing 3B. That all assumes that Buxton breaks camp with the club, which is 50/50 at this point. I think its a very real possibility we see Sano and Arcia in the same OF quite a few times in April/May.
The Wise One Verified Member Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Offensive liability. The Twins already have too many of those. Pass
darin617 Verified Member Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 The only positive thing giving Austin Jackson $8M it would make Mauer's contract look a little better.
beckmt Verified Member Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 No reason to do this. Twins have a couple of CF's not named Buxton in ROsaro and Santana. Already made a better minor league signing in Quentin. Jackson will be taking a 1 year make good deal for too much money as it is. And here is not where he would want to sign.

Lee-The-Twins-Fan Provisional Member Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 It'll be Buxton. They didn't trade Hicks just so we'd have something to talk about. I'll be very disappointed if Buxton is not with the Twins when they break camp.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 What does Austin's potential salary have to do with it? Either he's a guy who fills a need and helps the Twins win more games in 2016, or he isn't. His salary, be it $8 or $8m, isn't relevant. It's a one yr deal, and the Twins clearly should have the money.
theBOMisthebomb Verified Member Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 The Twins don't like to throw around any money, let alone $8 million - $9 million.

If they sign Jackson that is almost certainly the end of Arcia. I don't think that's worth it at any price.

I wouldn't be against them giving this a try, but they won't, and further, if they did, it would probably say a lot about what they think about for Buxton in 2016, which would not be fun for us as fans to hear.
