Then again ... wouldn't banks have monetary information on their own systems networks and computers ... and not on the internet? So would you need to get all your cash at once?

Am I in the right place? This is the 'How Much You Like Porn' thread, is it not?

You're witnessing how we all got through the off-season... And now the dog days of the regular season!

I think the lesson learned yesterday is maybe the internet isn't as important as we're led to believe. I think Levi was on the right track getting all of your money in cash form. And Mike's suggestion to invest heavily in paper/printing companies is a good one too. I think that's what I would do.

Today's Question:

Love or Money?

As you're walking back to your car from a long day at work, a suave looking man in a black pinstripe suit walks up to you. He tells you that he can make you rich beyond your wildest dreams - with a catch. If you accept this payment, you will no longer be able to remember or experience true love again. Whether that's a significant other, parent, or activity. You won't know until the suave looking man hands you the money. Once the money touches your hands, the effects start kicking in.

What amount of money would you ask for to give up true love? Or would you not do it at all?

No amount of money would do it for me, except maybe all of the money that belongs to every terrorist group. Maybe, if he took it all from them, maybe I'd be willing to sacrifice all my happiness for that. I don't know that I would, but I might.

Is this a way of getting help in your relationship? :)

Alright, this is ridiculous. I mean, no one would ever do that ... I hope ... I mean, c'mon, if you took the money, you'd immediately be in a predicament of all sorts. You wouldn't know what to use the money for since you wouldn't have any interest in anything - not even baseball. You wouldn't even donate to charities because you would have zero compassion for anyone. You wouldn't even find consolation in the fact that you were rich because you wouldn't love the money.

Now, if said suave gentleman told you you'd never experience love again unless you gave him all your money ... and you lived in a world where such things were possible and you didn't dare say "**** off," would you?

I would.

Clearly you'd run for the GOP Presidential nomination.

Okay ... so people would do it. The sad thing about it is, only a dumb person would do it ... and that means all that money in the hands of a moron who can't love but is still capable of hate ... wowza.

Unless, of course, love and hate are passions which go hand in hand, and without love, there could be no hate. In that case, maybe I'd do it for reasons Mike stated previously ... get a lawyer, sign a contract saying that once in my possession $x is to go to y and so forth, take the money, and shoot myself in the head.

This is actually a much better question than the one I wrote! Hmm, would the suave gentleman know exactly how much money I have? Or could I fib and say I only have $1k to my name?

Perhaps! They say money doesn't buy happiness (or love) but I sure as hell would like to find out!

Give me $2 billion so I can buy the Twins, and if I go through life without a significant other, well maybe it'll be worth it. Who knows.

Supposing the suave gentleman isn't in control of this and is merely a bearer of bad news, so to speak. He has no control over fate, and though he has no idea how much money you have, unless you give him all of it, you will lose your ability to love - even if you eventually see the error of your ways and wipe out your savings to try to remedy the fact.

This isn't really a HYPERthetical, per say, but it seems to fit in this thread. The bosses are gone, so we're all just BSing in the office this afternoon. The best topic so far is:

What's the first major news story you can remember living through as a kid?

You may hate me with my answer... But let's see what you guys have to say first.

JFK assassination and funeral. Followed by not much later with Project Gemini.

Must be a FB meme.......

I really struggle to remember stuff from when I was a kid. Clearly, I should recall the moon landing, or Watergate, but my answer is the Bicentennial celebrations.

Ha, why do you say that? Are your friends on FB reminiscing about this too?

I'm willing to bet my dad has the same answer. He's always been fascinated by the event. We went to the TX School Book Depository and the grassy knoll while my parents were down visiting. It would have taken one hell of a shot by Lee Harvey Oswald to accomplish what he did.

Cuban Missile Crisis, for me. I didn't comprehend too much of it. I just knew it kept interrupting my mom's soap operas.

Did you ever see 'The Missiles of October?'

Did you ever see 'The Missiles of October?'

Thankfully no. Nothing was launched in our vicinity.

For me, it would have to be the murder of John Lennon. I remember the day after this happened there was a collective depression amongst most people I seen in real life or on TV. It was an experience I will not forget and I was 5 years old.
