USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I would agree, but we're 14 days from September. It's a shame to lose Robinson now, when we might need him later. I'd rather Torii go on the DL and take a break. Why would anyone care about losing Robinson? What would the Twins "need" him for? He is not a player you build a team around, worry about losing, or give playing time to, except as a AAAA call up if forced because of injury. He is available every winter, for free. He will kill you if you play him much.

Rosterman Verified Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 All this talk of Robinson, come September, is what I woudl argue, too. Like last year, especially alst year when the Twins were going nowhere and Perkins was down, WHY did they give save opportunities to...Burton. If a player is not fitting into the 2016 plans come September 1, they better be looking on from the bench while the Twins look at the future, depending, of course, on where they truly are in the WIld Card hunt. You have Pelfrey for one. You have names like Duensing and Fien in the bullpen for sure. You have Nunez, who is splitting time with Escobar right now, which says a lot for Escobar. Who would you rather have as a utility guy in 2016, and please don't leave the option open for both. The Twins could pretty will bring up their entire 40-man roster, or if not, why are the guys (Darnell, Wheeler) on the roster. Yet the Twins will leave Kepler at Chattanooga for the playoffs. They won't add Berrios. They will try to let Dean or Rogers slip thru the system and make a decision on them next spring, because they no longer are blowing guys away and who cares if they get Rule 5 drafted (shades of Gilmartin). Will the Twins bring up Arcia, Pinto and Vargas. Buxton, who HAS been optioned so is not reuqired to return until after September 1, buying the Twins 3-weeks of service time, could still get swapped in for an injury (you can swap in like position players, I believe...or a position player for a position player, a pitcher for a pitcher).

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Because he's more valuable than Hunter right now....outfielders with .338 SLG's have no value. The sooner the Twins realize this, the better.
howeda7 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I won't lose sleep if they lose Robinson. But if Buxton's up here, I want him to play. They won't sit Hunter multiple days in a row. Just DL him. It's better all the way around.outfielders with .338 SLG's have no value. The sooner the Twins realize this, the better.

Anyway, if they won't sit Hunter mulitple days in a row, they ain't gonna manufacture a reason for the DL, and sit him two weeks.
howeda7 Verified Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I'm not sure how manufactured it would be. He had a sore wrist the other night and has one hit in a week and a half. Probably not a coincidence.Well, if that's the case, then we need new management, no? Hunter would need a semi-legit reason for being shelved, and old age doesn't cut it. I assume you are saying the Twins can't have Hunter ride pine for multiple days because Hunter would object. What do you think he would do if the Twins suddenly told him he had an injury unbeknownst to himself and he'd be taking 15 days off?

DiscGolfer Verified Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 So you think they would burn an option in exchange for saving ~3 days worth of MLB minimum salary? Because otherwise they could have let him rehab 3 days longer before optioning him.If they do unnecessarily burn that option, for that piddly amount of cash, that will be frustrating, even if Buxton *shouldn't* need it down the line. He's already been optioned, they can't burn another one this year. Unless there's something I'm missing.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 He's already been optioned, they can't burn another one this year. Unless there's something I'm missing. An optioned player does not actually burn one of his available "option years" (out of 3, usually) unless he spends 20 or more days on "optional assignment" in the minors. Buxton's first such day was August 10. Like in May 2014, Arcia was optioned but recalled about 10 days later, thus not burning his final option that year.
dbminn Verified Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Bring up Buxton. Sit Hunter more and give Rosario a day off against tough lefties. That gives the Twins a bat off the bench in either case. Won't kill Buxton to sit a day per week either. Plenty for him to learn from the bench once every 5-6 games. I suspect the Twins have 13 pitchers because May hasn't been available the past few days. Should change soon. Bring up Vargas on September 1st.
