This, especially someone who shouldn't have any part in the future of this team. With the season off the rails, Buxton should have a clear path.

So should the Twins trade or release Hunter to give Buxton playing time in the majors?

Edited to add: I expect that Hunter's playing time will significantly decrease in September. Might as well let Buxton finish August in Rochester. That way they can bring him up without having to worry about removing Hunter from the roster.

And they better not sign Hunter for next year.

I think this would be grievance worthy. You can't option an injured player. However slight, Buxton is losing money and service time now.

He had 3 games as rehab.  He is not injured.  They optioned him after the rehab (not sure if he said no no no)

Bigger fish to fry for the Twins than a guy who may have a bright future but cannot hit his weight in the majors...

He'll rebuild the wrist strength playing.  I'm not worried about him setting the world on fire, I'm worried about him developing his approach at the plate against more advanced arms than AA.  15-20 games strengthening the wrist while facing AAA pitching will be just fine before he returns to the majors.  There is no reason to compound his wrist strengthening with pitching he's already struggling with immediately.

It should be about his development and what's right for him.  Not every player can or should acclimate in the majors.  Especially not coming off an injury that he has a history struggling to return from.

And he can do the rebuilding wrist strength by playing here just as well as AAA. If we're blaming it on the wrist, he needs to just not play because if he can strengthen it playing in AAA, he can strengthen it in the majors. And if it's about developing his approach, he isn't going to go from being not developed to developed in 15-20 games. That's some magic bean stuff there. Oh look, it's 1 Sept.  Poof, you're developed now.  Go to the majors.

As far as this idea that not every player can or should acclimate to the majors?  I don't even understand that argument.  It's an adjustment from the minors, period.  There needs to be acclimation time.  I don't get any argument that says otherwise. And you don't even need to try and give one.

Do people remember how the Twins "protected"  the first baby Jesus?  Buxton is #2 and every little owwie he will have will result in "time off".

When my sprained ankle heals enough for me to walk, I don't sign up to do a 5k the next day.

He'll get a little extra development time, in a lower pressure environment, with time to strengthen his wrist in AAA.  And he'll be back up for a month to acclimate to big league pitching further along in his recovery.

It's really not as hard as some of you are bending over backwards to get worked up about.

I'm sure Buxton's wrist is healed enough to play. That doesn't mean it's healed 100%, and for that reason it could still be reinjured if he tries to do too much with it. So let him play at AAA where he will be less likely to overextend himself.

Edited to add: Leviathan posted while I was writing. GMTA.

That's ok, we're clearly crazy.  It's a universal fact that acclimating to the big leagues requires more than 32 games but less than 60.  I'm as yet unaware of how many magical games it requires but eagerly look forward to learning it via this conversation.

Why all the talk about his wrist when his original injury was his thumb?

Ha!  You're right, I've confused it with his many other injuries.  Though I hand injury of any kind is really the same - it has a major effect on grip and bat strength.

But yeah, good catch, my apologies on that confusion.

Please read the post I responded to. It suggested that the Twins could have activated and optioned him because they doubted he was fully healthy. That scenario (which I doubt happened) would warrant a grievance.
