Food and other such holidays

Any and all fast food 'Mexican' restaurants I've eaten at stink.  Taco Bell has zero redeeming qualities. The potato oles at Taco Johns are good, especially with nacho cheese, but that's about it.

My favorite Latino restaurant is actually inside a grocery store across the street from The Wellstone Center in St. Paul. When I worked over there it was a regular trip.

Nah, I'd say you're officially grown up now. Taco Bell was, and should always be, an after bar close pit stop before the cab drops you off at home.

The only Taco Bells here are joint ventures with KFC, they share the same restaurant. This chalupa thing looks like a different spin on that sandwich  KFC brought out a couple of years ago, with the 2 pieces of chicken as the bun.

Can't remember what  was called, the defibrillator? Something like that.

Never had one, won't be having the Mexican version either.

Agreed most pies are better than most cakes. I haven't met a dessert pie I haven't liked. British meat pies? No thank you.

Although, there are some cheesecakes I might take over some pies.

A flourless chocolate cake I might take over some pies.

Apple rum dum I'll take over some pies.

Favorite pies, though ... hmmm ... pumpkin and bourbon pecan. Dutch apple ranks up there, too.

I really like pie. But I do agree with chi, a great flourless chocolate cake or molten cake are also great.

It's hard to rank pie.....

Apple, cherry, pumpkin, all really good.

If you ever have cause to be in Chicago and come to my home, I'll make apple rum dum for you. It's a very moist apple cake with a warm rum butter sauce poured over the top of it. Without the sauce, pie. With the sauce, well, the choice is far more difficult.

What the hell is a flourless cake? That sounds sacrilegious. I like pie more than cake, except for the chocolate birthday cake my mom makes for me once a year.

My special chocolate B-day cake >>>>>> Pie >>>>> all other cakes.

Well I'd never say no to a piece of cake.

It's really its own category and is not typical cake. Very dense and very moist, almost like eating straight, rich, amazing chocolate. Almost like a dark chocolate truffle in cake form.

And most flourless cakes do have some flour, but not a main ingredient. The recipes I've seen (I've actually never made one, but I've read several recipes) called for 1-2 Tbls

Lol, I came back to post that ... oops, that has no flour. I'm not sure what recipe I've read that has the minimal flour.

I'll never understand people's obsession with Apple Pie.

Most overated pie in history, sorry America.

That's why I like Dutch apple pie ... it's like apple crisp in a pie. But then, you have to really love apple crisp, which I do.

I love me some peanut butter.... Been on a creamy PB binge lately. And also honey roasted peanuts.

Today is also National Beer Can Appreciation Day! On this day in 1935, beer starting selling in can form.... My favorite beer can at the moment:

Today is national peanut butter day.....I think my oldest would die of starvation w/o peanut butter.

There was a time in my life I could have said that. PB on/with everything and for every meal in some way. I have PB in my lunch today to go with the sliced apples I brought.

I should have thai food with me today, but I got distracted this am, and it's in the fridge.....maybe I'll find a PB burger.

Or you could buy one of those packets with sliced apple and PB. That would satisfy the requirement.

Incidentally, my sliced apple and PB is not of that variety. I actually sliced a honey crisp apple, and I buy PB packets to take with me for this purpose.

Did you know?

Today is National Irish Coffee Day! Been a long time since I had an Irish Coffee.... Though I wouldn't mind a cup today!

Today is also National Opposite Day! So I'm going to take full-advantage with this line:

I hate the Twins so much. Buxton is the worst, Sano is not athletic. Danny Santana is the best player in pro baseball. I would rather walk into oncoming traffic than watch a baseball game.

Phew! Glad I could get that off my chest.

On this day in 1949, the 1st Primetime Emmy Awards premiered! Something called Pantomime Quiz won Most Popular Television Program, "The Necklace" won Best Film Made for Television, and Shirley Dinsdale won Most Outstanding Television Personality!

Also, on this day in 1924, the first Winter Olympics was played in France! They played 12 sports, including skiing, bobsled, and ski jump. Norway ended up winning the most medals that year. And yes, North, Canada dominated in hockey back then too....
