Huge fan of pickles, here. Yuge. I gotta say, though, when a place tries to sneak in sweet pickles without making it known...that's pickle terrorism and it must be stopped. 

Lol ... that made me laugh.

I know it's not National Pot Roast Day, but I made one tonight; a very tasty one, with potatoes, carrots and onions on the side. And not only that, I made gravy successfully, too, from the leftover liquid. So. Yum!

We've got a number of goodies this morning.... 

 

Today is National Bundt Cake Day! Big fan of bundt cake... Especially red velvet bundt cake. Do yourself a favor and try one of Nothing Bundt Cake's delicious cakes! 

 

Today is also National Raisin Bran Cereal Day! Though Raisin Bran doesn't cut it on the Top Cereals, Ranked chart:

 

- Life (original and cinnamon)

- Cinnamon Toast Crunch

- Frosted Flakes

- Special K (with banana or some sort of fruit)

- Frosted Mini Wheats

- Honey Nut Cheerios

- Wheat Chex

- Rice Krispies

- Malt O Meal Golden Puffs

- getting struck by a bus

- Grape Nuts

 

Today is also National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day! I don't know about you, but I have more than a few things to toss out in my fridge.... 

 

Today is also National Philanthropy Day! Whether you donate money, or time, anything is important to build up the community. To get my dog fix without getting a puppy yet, I'm volunteering at Austin Pets Alive! and the Humane Society. 

 

Finally, on this day in 1984, Baby Fae passes away. Baby Fae was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and was the first infant to successfully go through a heart transplant from a baboon's heart. She survived only a month after the procedure, and drummed up many discussions concerning the ethics behind a transplant such as this.

The bundt pan was invented in MN. MOST Of them are still made in St. Louis Park, MN at Nordicware. My wife worked there the last few years we were in MN. Family owned, made in the USA (not all of their stuff, their CFO is pushing China.....that China stuff is MUCH lower quality....).

And will for the next 4-5 nights. :) I divvied up all the leftover veggies, meat and gravy, put them into 5 containers and voila! Just have to pop one into the microwave for a minute or two and dinner is served. Of course, you have to not mind the same thing every night going forward until it's done. I suppose I could have put 2 or 3 in the freezer for a later meal, but I never eat it then.

I'm with you on that... Normally I forget about it being in the freezer and make the same thing at a later date. I've done that a few times with pulled pork and shredded beef.

I've been trying to cook a large-ish meal on Mondays, with the thought I'd have enough for at least 4 more nights ... so basically having a meal 'ready' on weeknights when I get home from work.

I lived on Raisin Bran during high school wrestling. It was one of the foods that I could gorge on and still meet weight because of its, uh, cleansing qualities.

Maybe I need to switch to a Raisin Bran only diet to lose 10 pounds before the holiday season....

If you really want to get serious about it, just switch to All-Bran and prunes.

We have another day where BIG National Holiday wants us to clog our arteries... 

Because it's National Fast Food Day! Here's a hypothetical question for you.... If you could eat at only one fast food restaurant for the rest of your life, what would you choose? 

Today is also National Button Day! The National Button Society is always on the lookout for new recruits to join the fast-paced hobby of button collecting! My grandmother was an avid crafter, and always had mason jars full of buttons. 

Finally, on this day in 1959, a brand new show hits the stage on Broadway... This show became so popular that a movie spin off was created from this show... That show is: "The Sound of Music!"

Taco John's. The Potato Ole more than makes up for the fact that their slogan was once: "There's a whole lot of Mexican goin' on/goin' on at Taco John's."

Every time I go back to MN my brother and I make a pit stop at Taco John's to get a meat and potato burrito and ole's.... Then I know I'm back home!

Hahaha ... I did that tour, too ... but in September and the weather was gorgeous. And they made us sing on the bus. One of my colleagues wondered how I knew the words to all the songs and I said that I remembered when the movie first came out and we had the sheet music at home. And knowing that the movie came out in '65 he looked at me and said, 'You're that old??' Heh ... the Sound of Music ... ahhhhhhh.

 

As for fast food, hmm, I don't really eat at too many fast food places, or rather not at any one with regularity, but my neighborhood has this place called Pita Heaven. I'd choose that one. Or maybe Pret a Manger.

And, in case you didn't know ... Pret a Manger (which is missing all the accent and other diacritical marks) is French and means 'Take Out Food' or 'Fast Food'

potato oles with the cheese to dip it in. Yummy. I miss taco johns.
