It's a chilly day in Austin.....

 

You know what will help turn things around? PIE! Because it's National Pie Day! Pies are delicious, except for the thick outside crust once the filling is gone. Sometimes it's too much crust, you know? Pies with graham cracker crusts are the best.

 

Today is also National Rosa Parks Day! On this day in 1955, Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on the bus when the bus started filling up with more people. She was arrested, and resulted in a civil rights movement.

 

Today is also National Eat a Red Apple Day! Preferably Honeycrisp apples, please!

 

Mmm, I have a homemade dutch apple pie waiting for me at home. Honeycrisp apples (my favorite) were the apples used in the pie.

 

Btw, and off topic, i tried butter pecan ice cream for the first time this weekend. amazing.

Happy Friday! 

Today is National Fritters Day! Can't say I've had fritters.... Or if I have, clearly it wasn't memorable. 

 

Today is also National Mutt Day! A day to celebrate the mixed breed pups in your life. There are several mutts at Austin Pets Alive! and the Humane Society that are adorable... Maybe 2017 is the year I get a pup of my own :)

Finally, on this day in 2001, Enron files for chapter 11 bankruptcy. That resulted in the largest corporate fraud scandal in history... I'm sure some of those executives who misled investors on their profits are still in prison today. Hopefully you were not one of the investors in Enron back in the day!

I wouldn't be too surprised if some of those executives are offered cabinet positions. :)

 

My guys are both purebreds, but I've known plenty of wonderful mutts over the years. You should get a dog. A Boy and his Dog. Nice ring to it.

 

We've had homemade apple fritters; good stuff.

The timing is close on getting a dog. I've been delaying it lately by volunteering and getting the dog fix. It's not the same as having an excited dog running to the door when you get home from work... 

 

After my extended vacation over Xmas I'll be looking into getting one!

Mutts ... I like all animals, but as far as having them living in my home, that's reserved for cats. But as I said, I like all animals, including dogs. There are some dog owners, however, I just can't say the same for.

Your cat is adorable. And they are certainly easier to take care of. I still like being able to take a dog out to the park to play and cruise around the neighborhood for single ladies

I have friends who leash-trained their cat. Just sayin' ... 

 

And, really, you can show really cute pictures of your feline to the single ladies and then invite them in to meet your kitty ... Let's recap ... with a dog, single ladies remain in the park ... with a cat, single ladies come home with you ... hmmm ....

Great point! Just need to find a cat that likes to snuggle and I'm golden.

Go to a shelter and sit in a room with some cats. There will be one or two who will choose you.

Check out Norwegian Forest Cats ... the original Viking breed. They are absolutely stunning.

Those appear to be the breed used as the models for the above picture.

For reasons which I was never to grasp, when we were small children our Mother was really interested in the Jaguarundi.

I like big cats, much as I prefer larger breeds of dogs. If it's big enough I need to worry about it eating me, then it's just the right size.

 

Marley being the exception to this.
