formerly33 Verified Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 But I don't eat ice cream with a spoon. And come to think of it, Japanese people don't eat Miso soup with a spoon, where does that leave us now?Back to the drawing board.Soup has broth while chili doesn't. And if you know of a soup that doesn't have broth, we'll have to quote Einstein and say, "If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts." By the way, are tomatoes vegetables? There most definitely is a correct answer to that one, though I've had lot's of people argue with me about it...it's my pet peeve, so I'm counting on you to get it right.

The same way a banana is a berry and a strawberry is not.

So chowder isn't soup? what percent of soups are broth based? Broth is also the basis for gravy.....does that make gravy a soup?
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 So chowder isn't soup? what percent of soups are broth based? Broth is also the basis for gravy.....does that make gravy a soup?Excellent point Mr. Sixel.
formerly33 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 So chowder isn't soup? what percent of soups are broth based? Broth is also the basis for gravy.....does that make gravy a soup?Okay...um...would you describe chowder as brothy, stewy, or saucy? Or is it just...chowder? Does it spill when you're concentrating on not spilling it? To me that defines soup (though soup doesn't define that, or else ChiTown's green smoothies would fall into that category). Er, and in answer to your last question, yes. Kind of like how bread is flour.
ashbury Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Why is vichyssoise a soup, but my morning bowl of Lucky Charms in milk is not?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 No, but tater-tot hot dish is.You're doing it wrong.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 So chowder isn't soup? what percent of soups are broth based? Broth is also the basis for gravy.....does that make gravy a soup?I think chowder might actually be a bisque.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Today is National Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day. Unfortunately I kicked the habit of drinking soda, but the brewery close to my apartment has a new beer this week called Billy Corgan's Caffeine Addiction - pumpkin ale with coffee... does that count? It's also National Play Monopoly Day. I like playing that board game, but god dang it takes forever to finish it.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 I find Monopoly tedious, no thanks. I do have a nice Alesmith stout with coffee in the fridge......that counts, yes, yes it counts.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I bought my kids a Monopoly game a while ago, it doesn't even use money anymore, it uses a bank card and debit machine to keep track of all your dough! Good grief! I'm with Mike, this will be my National Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine of the day http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jskGKNUc_Lg/TR4-K-kpHwI/AAAAAAAACuM/TrqAY2CwNEs/s1600/014.JPG

Good grief! I bought my nephew one of those 'authentic retro' sets. Real fake money. As for carbonated, caffeinated beverages ... I don't really drink them. Occasionally I buy a soda and when I do, it's usually Diet Pepsi or Diet Mountain Dew. But I've pretty much divested myself of soda. Unless I feel like a root beer float ... I drink unsweetened ice tea almost (but not quite) daily, though. That's my caffeine. But it's not carbonated.

For some odd reason unsweetened ice tea has never been a thing up here, yeah, it's that way in the south, too. You have to specify 'unsweet' or you'll get 'sweet.' More and more when I order ice tea here, I really need to specify, as sweet tea is becoming more the norm up north. But I also just make my own a lot, too.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 No pop for me either. But back in the day, my power ranking was: 1. Cherry Coke2. Mountain Dew3. Dr. Pepper
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Limited pop: the occasional izzy at work or home, less than 1 a weekthe occasional dark and stormysometimes an izzy gets added to a mixed drink (less than a full one) or sometimes trader joe's limeaid

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 BIG soda has to be profiting from a much smaller group of people these days. I can't remember the last time I bought a 12 pack of soda at the grocery store... On very rare occasions I will have a Diet Coke at work. Otherwise La Croix Lemon to mix with vodka.

twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I have a weakness for Cherry Coke, I can't get it here so I often bring a few cases back from my trips Stateside , it's like I want it because I can't have it. Cherry Dr. Pepper just isn't the same.
