Yeah, just another in a series of moves in the last month that are about as strategically meaningful and difference-making as adding Jepsen to the pen.

Actually, seeing how Santana was one of the worst players in baseball before the demotion, this move has some strategic significance, even if Escobar is merely replacement level.

Of course, making this move six weeks ago would have had more impact...

I'm curious about this "farm system". Oh so many rave about the Twins "prospects"--but what I see is: Can't Hit, or Can't catch, or Can't throw, or Can't run. One (or worse more!) of those attributes. I'm sorry, please explain to me why all of these guys are too precious to trade?

Do you expect all players to come to MLB and OPS at .900 with Gold Glove defense right off the bat?

This is how rebuilds work. It takes time and patience to build a team around young players.

You missed my point.  These guys should not be considered Untouchable--maybe expensive, but no more.  The vice-grip on prospects make things even more difficult to rebuild--not less difficult.

But

this is not what Ryan has been doing.  If this team were to rebuild the last 4 seasons, I would applaud 100%.  But that would had meant no Correia, Pelfrey, Nolasco, Hughes, E. Santana, Hunter, Suzuki, Boyer, Burton, Stauffer, Schafer, Robinson, Bartlett, Kubel, Guerrier, Doumit, Morales, Willingham & Co.

If they want to go with the kids, they should go with the kids and not do a half whatever job.  They are not rebuilding this season, and they have not been rebuilding since 1999-2000 (and I would argue that that was contraction-driven, so Pohlad's profits would be maximized by the smallest payroll possible the year before contraction.)

Possibly, but I'm not sure we're at that point yet. I do know that if Ryan isn't aggressive this offseason, I'm going to be terribly disappointed. Now is the time to start actively fixing problems and I hope Ryan starts changing his approach to fit the needs of where the team is today.

There are no SS or C in FA.......so you are counting on him to trade prized prospects......get ready for disappointment.

Not only are there really no FA options, there won't be a better player available, at less cost, than Tulowitzki.

And he passed on that, so it's difficult for me to understand how he's going to be aggressive this winter.

Oh Christ there is there one than one way to rebuild.  Rebuilding doesn't meant don't sign anyone, don't play anyone over the age of 24 and go at it.  Who exactly was going to play if a lot of those guys weren't signed?  Most of the signings you listed were little to no risk low cost signings use to fill holes while they were rebuilding.  Hughes, Santana and Nolaso represented signings towards the next step.
