Hicks hasn't had great results yet this year, but to me he just looks like a much more confident, competent hitter.

Agreed. I remember when they played Boston earlier in the year and Hicks had good at bats but the ball wasn't falling

It was the same thing with his two spring training dingers. It doesn't look like he's swinging hard but the ball still goes far.

It's actually a golf thing. Some players (golf, baseball, tennis, etc.) utilize the natural pendulum action of their stick to generate easy power. Miguel Sano is one of those guys.

How does Santana look out there? I'm not near a television.

To my eyes, throwing hard, but the breaking stuff doesn't seem very crisp.  Which wouldn't be surprising, given the lack of actual game preperation, only 3 AAA starts.

Really not bad. He's controlled, he's not giving up hits, and one home run off of him was about as close as it could be to staying in the park. He looks like he's in pretty good form for not having played in quite a while.

Yeah, the breaking stuff will come last. Good to hear the velocity is there.

And had it stayed in the park, Hunter was right there, leaping for it. So it woulda been an out.

If only his glove were 3 feet long...

Yeah he sounds almost dominant

And 7th inning already???

I see you're also inoculating yourself from being called the jinx.

No doubt.

This one is kinda sorta justifiable but you sometimes wonder if they've ever seen the run expectancy matrix.

EDIT: though perhaps the run scoring matrix is/was skewed by the higher offense in the steroid era. Still, having the out usually seems better than having the extra base.

Sano has huge power. Notice that his swing is very powerful, but completely under control. Cain didn't realize how hard Sano had hit that ball, and it surprised him by carrying over his head.

Hasn't Sano factored in at least one run in every game so far? He really doesn't look like a rookie. He looks as professional as Rosario, with an even better bat. Should be interesting when he finally gets a chance at third base.

I am disappointed that he hasn't gotten to play in the field. Come on. Don't make a young strong man suffer through a day of about 10 minutes of action and all the rest waiting around.
