Spring Training Games 3 & 4: Twins vs BoSox, Twins vs Orioles

Parmelee caught Hunter's popup near first. Didn't see mention of him in this thread before now, so I'm mentioning him now.

Of course, this is the Orioles, so it's old home week for ex-Twins. Delmon's up to bat as I type this.

Sorry, yeah.

Parmelee is at first, and behind him in right field is Delmon Young.

Parmelee hit a long fly to right that announcers said would been out if the wind were just a bit kinder.

Nice diving catch by Kepler just now.

Looking forward to being down there myself a week from now.

My idea of "at all" differs if we're talking about a candidate for catcher versus corner outfielder. I assume CF isn't really in the discussion.

My opinion is that if Herrmann can OPS at .675, he's an interesting option.

That may be a stretch in today's game, though.

Yeah, I'd view .675 as a bit below minimal unless we're talking about really good defense wherever he's plugged in. I guess "interesting" is a fuzzy enough descriptor to cover a difference of opinion about last position player for the roster. For me it puts him at "close to being in the discussion" maybe. :)

.675 would be a minimum, for sure. A lot hinges on what the Twins plan on doing with Josmil Pinto. If the Twins want Pinto insurance or they don't want Pinto behind the plate at all - the latter being a mistake, IMO - then having Herrmann on the 25 man makes some sense.

If catcher is the primary enticement, I just looked and Eric Fryer sports a .660 lifetime OPS and would probably provide better defense there. :)

If Herrmann's half season stats at AAA last year reflect something real going on, it does make him interesting. It just looks out of line with his progression so far, so color me skeptical. Combine his age 25-26 numbers at AAA, knock off .100 points of OPS for coming up to the majors, and he looks like Eric Fryer at bat, to me. He could be a 25th man on a roster for a season or two; so could 100 other guys.

Agreed. To be clear, I have never been a Herrmann fan... Just pointing out that if he can hit, he's an intriguing bench option.

Nice game today, not much hitting for us though.  Sano made a great play on a bunt that Plouffe would of never came close, but booted a short hop that Plouffe might have made.  Kepler made a really nice catch in right and hit a sharp liner to left that was caught.  Esco just killed the ball over the centerfielders head to drive in a run, and Mauer had a Mauer liner in the corner for the first run.  Nunez did lose his helmet 2 steps around first on his double.

New rule here this year, and according to security, it's the only park in MLB with it.  You can't leave and come back in.  I asked brass why and was told they don't want anyone going out and having a smoke.  Nazi's I say!  I made it til the bottom of the 8th, and left.

Minnesota day too, with a parking lot full of tailgaters.

The FSL ballparks are notorious for that. I'm sure his luck will change in the Eastern League.

Well, that sucks. Seriously?
