Via @MikeBerardino of the Pioneer Press:

Person with direct knowledge confirms #RedSox bench coach Torey Lovullo is being interviewed for 2nd time for #MNTwins mgr job.

Earlier in the day, Charley Walters of the PP had tweeted that Doug Mientkiewicz may end up managing the organization's Double-A affiliate at its new home in Chattanooga next year, something we've heard rumblings about before.

At this point it's really looking like the Twins' manager search has been narrowed down to Molitor and Lovullo, though the team's level of interest in newly available Joe Maddon remains unclear.

Well this encouraging report would seem to indicate that the first interview was more than just a cursory look for PR purposes.  I really hope he gets the job.  I am firmly in the camp of 'from outside the org' as a prerequisite on the resume and here's why: as Gleeman has stated on his podcast, it's really hard to judge a manager's skill or effect on the game, especially managerial candidates.  With that in mind and all things being equal, I'll take the candidate without the stink of this organization on them.  Good luck to Lovullo.

It would appear that Mientkiewicz is out of the running... but at least he's probably getting a promotion, so at least he'll still be around just in case we whiff with this new manager.

I like Paul Molitor, but something inside me says that the Twins need to try somebody outside of the system. I'll be happy with either guy as the manager, but I want to see Lovullo get the job.

Just curious - any relationship between scribe Mike and interviewee Dick?

No.  He made that clear on Twitter.  Should have put it in the article.

My assumption is, if someone writes an article about someone else with the same last name and DOESN'T disclose a relationship, they're not related.

I guess he could have put a parenthetical "(no relation)" after the first mention of the subject's name, but that, to me, looks a little unprofessional (not to mention perhaps incorrectly assumes the reader knows the author's name -- actually maybe that is why it looks unprofessional).

Last name Brown or Williams?  No need for disclaimer.

Berardino raises the question because it just isn't common enough,
