Adrenaline? In most sports i would agree but baseball? I also have played some baseball and softball (horribly I may add) and i rarely had adrenaline. All you do is hit once every hour and go games without a ball hit your direction.

Now football was a sport where injuries can be forgotten. Once had a stage 3 separation of my shoulder and played rest of game...still felt it but could play. I also broke an arm and a finger, they were different. Playing with that broken finger was worst thing ever. No amount of adrenaline can mask certain injuries...such as a broken wrist...btw i just realized i got hurt a lot. College football takes some time off your life.

I might suggest your homone levels may be quite a bit different than that of a professional athlete. Even the ones that don't get them artificially.

Having injured myself on more than one occasion in sporting events, I'll simply say that more often than not, the injury is far worse the next day. It happens. A lot of times your body is already pumping out endorphines (i.e. natural pain killers) so you don't even realize how bad it's hurt until those wear off.

And it gets so much and much worse as you age, which sucks! Even more so to the fact that Buxton is young and his endorphins/adrenaline etc kick in quicker.

We can debate all day about things the Twins may or may not have done medically correctly, this simply is not one of them unless you want them to wrap Buxton up in bubble wrap and football pads before he takes each at bat.

I wonder why they waited four days to get an x-ray?

Ft. Myers does have a lot of old people I guess. Maybe that's just how long he had to sit in the waiting room at the walk-in clinic?

I'm guessing it was still a little sore/swollen and they did it out of an abundance of caution?

Adrenaline has very little to do with not feeling the pain while playing baseball. While you are playing baseball your body is still loose and warm. The problem comes when you stop playing and your body tightens up and the swelling increases. By the next day after a night of sleep your body is so tight and the area so swollen that it hurts like hell trying to move that area.

I'm not willing to do any research, but I'm willing to bet that how injuries work is an evolutionary or intended process. It really wouldn't make sense in the wild for injuries to instantly take you out. You need time to finish beating up the other cave man and take his woman. I've had the same experience in sports as you guys, especially the part about getting older. Pretty sure I was injured running to first base playing softball last year. Total BS

I didn't think this would happen to me but people weren't lying about this. Ugh...

From the Strib this morning:

• Top prospect Byron Buxton is still day-to-day after his right wrist was hit by a pitch Friday. The Class A Fort Myers center fielder hasn’t played since the injury, but Ryan said he hopes Buxton will play Thursday.
