Passing the Blame for Eddie Rosario's Suspension

Word is slowly starting to trickle out about a 50-game suspension that will be handed down to Twins second base prospect Eddie Rosario. He apparently told the manager of his winter league squad that he wouldn't be able to play because of his pending suspension. The official suspension won't be announced until the league can resolve an issue on their end.   Rosario is a converted outfield who by most accounts is top ten prospect in the organization. His quick wrists have helped him to become one

The Dominos are falling: The Twins acquire Kris Johnson from the Pirates

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----   In the first trade of the 2013 off-season, the Minnesota Twins returned RHRP Duke Welker (whom they acquired in the Justin Morneau trade) to the Pittsburgh for LHSP Kris Johnson.   Johnson (6'4", 190, 28 years old) is a former first round draft pick of the Boston Redsox (2006) and signed as a minor league free agent by the Pirates 2 years ago. He was listed as the Redsox' fourth best pitching prospect in 2008 by Baseball America. T

Quit wasting my time with Gleeman and the Geek

For those of you waiting with great anticipation about where the best beer in the Cities is or what the social behavior of Bonnes and Gleeman is going to be, look no further just download the GATG episodes. For me, I am sick of them, I have no desire to listen to two drunks give their opinions on night life in twin cities or their drinking habits they are so proud of. Please Twins fans recommend other podcasts that are really filled with Twins content, I wont be going back to the circus named,

Why the ignorance on Deduno?

I read post after post about the projected rotation for Twins in 2014, many exclude Deduno entirely or at least have him at number 4. Cmon folks, quit listening to the experts, trust your eyes, Deduno has GREAT stuff, don't believe it, ask Gardy...   Any other pitcher who didn't pitch like Deduno, would be praised and hailed as savior of Twins pitching, but because his style is o unorthodox, he is like a fastballing knuckleballer.....we (twins nation) have to rely on other peoples opinions to a

My big, bold, unrealistic Twins 2014 off season

This is a completely ridiculous-not-going-to-happen-in-a-million-years-but-could-if-Terry-Ryan-was-ludicrously-bold offseason plan.   First off, the Twins will only have $46 million allotted to non-rookie contracts; this should free up tons of money. I'm not going to get into money that in depth, but I would like to think any of the players I mention as FA pickups would fit within the budget. Soooo, here it is:   1) Biggest, boldest, boldesterest move: Trade for Jurickson Profar. This seems cr

When Could Alex Meyer Boost the Rotation?

There are plenty of questions for the Twins to find answers to in the coming months. One of the biggest conundrums swirling around the team is trying to figure out who will make up the starting rotation. Kevin Correia seems like the only lock for a starting job but the Twins don't really want him as the staff ace. So what direction should the team go?   If the season started today, the Twins would likely enter the year with a rotation composed of Kevin Correia, Kyle Gibson, Scott Diamond, Vance

What If You Won The Lottery

Hi There!   So what if you happen to win the lottery tomorrow?   It’s got to be my favourite scenario, me winning the lottery, so you can bet i’ve given this a lot of thought - i’d use the money to pay off my loans, then i’d help our my parents, then i’d invest in a property, go on a european holiday.   If winning the lottery was a possibility what would you do with the money and why? Twins' Trade Chips (targets?)

With a whole 3 to 4 months of hot stove upon us (depending on your water cup viewpoint), what better to do than speculate on what the Twins will be able to do during that time? A big topic of interest on TwinsDaily has been the potential trade market for pitching; specifically, Homer Bailey. If you happen to live under a rock, the "rotation situation" is desperate for improvement after yet another abysmal attempt. There's quite a few scenarios that the Twins could explore in a player swap that I

Span and Revere Could Move Again

Last offseason, the Minnesota Twins traded two of their most important outfield pieces, Denard Span and Ben Revere. There were plenty of reasons for doing this but the main reason was the team needed to add some pitching prospects to their minor league system. The club also felt Aaron Hicks was close to being ready to take over the everyday center field job.   It's nearly a year later and things might already be falling apart for both of these players in their new organizations. Reports have beg

Scott Boras: Jacoby Ellsbury & The State of MLB Free Agency

Jacoby Ellsbury, healthy only 2 of the past 4 seasons, and his agent Scott Boras are prowling the streets of the free agent market with the notion that Carl Crawford's $142M contract is well, "an old contract."   Ellsbury who has a career AVG/OBP/SLG .297/.350/.439, a single GG, one season where he hit over 10 home runs, missed two of his last four seasons with injuries, he's 30 years old, and his agent believes he should get upwards of 7 yrs $180M.   Scott Boras goes on...     1. Is there new m

Twins SP Kevin Correia and target Bronson Arroyo: Eerie statistical similarities, but

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch --- Twins' beat reporter Mike Berardino broke the news late Tuesday night that the Minnesota Twins were looking closely (but not yet negotiating) at the possibility of signing Bronson Arroyo, the 37 year old free agent pitcher lately of the Cincinnati Reds.   The thought that immediately came to my mind was that the last thing the Twins need is another (and older version of) Kevin Correia, given my premise that the Twins need 3 starting pitchers b

My Top 10 Minnesota Twins Starting Pitching Targets

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   I've been writing so much about free agency lately, it's sick! Last week, I addressed the position players the Twins should target. This week, I've been counting down my top 30 starting pitching targets for the Twins. If you missed any of this mini-dynasty, I'll provide you some links. Since I wrote these, things have changed, but most of my ideas aren't super player-specific, more of an overall philosophy.   Translation: please click these l

A contrarian perspective on Correia, Twins Sabermetrics use and the Front Office

(I'm going to start this off with some generalized statements about where I'm coming from and why I'm writing this. Feel free to scroll down until you see the big red “TL;DR”. I like to think I've got some insight or can provide a bit of entertainment, but that belief hardly makes me unique amongst people who post on the internet. The footnotes also get a little loose.)   As sports fans, we've become used to hearing a viewpoint, statement or assertion repeated ad nauseum. Twitter, Facebook, Skip

Mauer to First: Whats it mean? and how to sort out the nonsense

Well the move has finally arrived, we all knew it was coming sooner or later. Now it’s time for the panic and the uninformed cliché’s to fly. However before you curse the contract or start making inaccurate comparisons; stop, take a breath, and look at some facts. Yes it’s true that Mauer is more valuable at catcher then at first base. It’s a simple fact that the catcher position is far more valuable than first base. But with Mauer having a concussion and so little known about what can happen wi

One Starting Pitcher the Twins should target in a trade

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----   A week ago, I looked at the available starting pitchers who are free agents and I distilled the long list to three names who the Twins should target this off-season. The premise is that other than Alex Meyer and maybe Kyle Gibson, the Twins do not have any "sure bets" for the top of their rotation for next season and the near future that will coincide with the coming of age of uber prospects Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton. So, in order
