We're talking about mostly minor players here. Mike Hartley was decent. Terry Jorgensen, Jeff Grotewold and Mike Maksudian were all alive. You have to give them that. They're gon
I just saw a youtube highlight video of Adam Brett Walker with the Kernels. The first short clip is an advertisement for the Kernels (be patient) and then there are 27 or 29 short highlight clips (15 - 30 seconds each) from just the Kernels home games in CR. He truly does have incredible power. Each HR must have been over 400 feet. Must see TV. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=adam+brett+walker+kernel+highlights&oq=adam+brett+walker+kernel+highlights&gs_l=youtube.12.
How did they do it? What were the changes? How does a team 'unload' most of it's talent and not really seem to acquire much more, yet, come out on top as it seems the Red Sox have done. The 1991 Minnesota Twins went from 'worst to first'...as did the Atlanta Braves that year. The 2012 Red Sox had: Carl Crawford ($102.5M over the next 5 yrs) Adrian Gonzalez ($127M over the next 6 yrs, Red Sox pay $3.9M/yr thru '15) Marlon Byrd Josh Beckett ($31.5M over the next 2 yrs) Kevin Youkilis ($12
Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) measures what a player’s ERA should have looked like over a given time period, assuming that performance on balls in play and timing were league average. Fangraphs relies on FIP to calculate WAR for pitchers. Is FIP independent of the catcher? The following table shows pitching performance by catcher over the last two seasons. [TABLE=width: 500] Catcher Inn K/BB FIP Joe Mauer 1286 2.32 4.32 Ryan Doumit 865 1.65 4.78 Drew Butera 307 2.53 3.80 C
It seems a bit early for this, but I think the Twins need to be aggressive early in free agency this year. Jim Pohlad has made it clear that the bank is open if Terry Ryan decides to spend money in free agency this offseason. As John Bonnes recently wrote, the Twins could easily have $25-$30M to spend on payroll this season. Twins Daily - TwinsDaily Video: How Much Pitching Can The Twins Afford I would like to expand upon this and propose what I would like the Twins to do this offseason.
This is my first attempt at a blog entry. Thanks Twins Daily community. And yes this is a true story. It was a wonderful evening in 1987, my best friend Mark and I had been wondering the streets of Minneapolis for hours, there were hundreds of folks seemingly in the same situation as ours. We saw signs, people dressed in costumes, yelling catchy and witty lines to everyone they passed. Mark and I talked of Hrbek launching another miracle homerun in the 9th. Seeing Bert close down the Royals
Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! If you really like reviews, I did two 2013 fun stats reviews as well: Hitters. Pitchers. Fun! The 2013 regular season has ended. The AL Central has produced a team that has made it to at least the ALCS. In addition, the Indians made the Wild Card game and the Royals had a pretty decent season. The Twins and White Sox battled heroically for last place, with the White Sox emerging victorious. Prior to the season, I did some predictin'. I l
Not that I thought his 40-man roster spot was ever in doubt. But he's the best performing Twin so far in the ARZ Fall League, which started on Oct 8. Here's a story on Kepler and his performance in his last game. Here's the Twins stats - they're on the Glendale Desert Dogs.
In 1987 and 1991, I was eight and eleven respectively. 1987 was the first year I “followed” the Minnesota Twins, and I can still remember my father, an ardent Yankees fan, complaining about the Twins that year. It was a beautiful time to be eight and hate the Yankees. Memories of the World Series are not very clear, but for some reason I swear I remember an Ozzie Smith back flip (I hope that actually happened). Once they won that championship, I was hooked (still have a wall plaque of the 198
What better time than right now is there to roll out the newest edition of the Roster and Payroll page? After fiddling with some design changes, there really isn't a lot of options. There are still some potential changes that may be made, but for now you're gonna have to deal with it. The first thing you see is the PROJECTED payroll. You're gonna see that word a lot because, well... everything you see is a projection. I don't really have any special insight into anything. The Twins have

I read this in the Economist last week http://cdn.static-economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/full-width/images/2013/10/blogs/game-theory/20131005_blp502.jpg Cuban athletes in all sports will now be allowed to compete in foreign leagues, as long as they pay taxes of around 20% at home and remain available to play for their country in major competitions. ... Unfortunately for MLB, however, the new policy will have only a minimal impact on the league’s access to Cuban stars....Th
Start #3 for the 21-year-old went well again. He tossed three scoreless innings with no walks. He gave up one hit and had three strikeouts. In 8 IP through 3 starts, he's given up 0 runs, 1 hit, 3 walks, and 13 strikeouts.
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
