Twins 2014 Rotation

It seems a bit early for this, but I think the Twins need to be aggressive early in free agency this year. Jim Pohlad has made it clear that the bank is open if Terry Ryan decides to spend money in free agency this offseason. As John Bonnes recently wrote, the Twins could easily have $25-$30M to spend on payroll this season.   Twins Daily - TwinsDaily Video: How Much Pitching Can The Twins Afford   I would like to expand upon this and propose what I would like the Twins to do this offseason.

One October night in 1987 (Twins vs. Cardinals Game 1)

This is my first attempt at a blog entry. Thanks Twins Daily community. And yes this is a true story.     It was a wonderful evening in 1987, my best friend Mark and I had been wondering the streets of Minneapolis for hours, there were hundreds of folks seemingly in the same situation as ours. We saw signs, people dressed in costumes, yelling catchy and witty lines to everyone they passed. Mark and I talked of Hrbek launching another miracle homerun in the 9th. Seeing Bert close down the Royals

AL Central Preview Review

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! If you really like reviews, I did two 2013 fun stats reviews as well: Hitters. Pitchers. Fun!   The 2013 regular season has ended. The AL Central has produced a team that has made it to at least the ALCS. In addition, the Indians made the Wild Card game and the Royals had a pretty decent season. The Twins and White Sox battled heroically for last place, with the White Sox emerging victorious.   Prior to the season, I did some predictin'. I l

On Faith

In 1987 and 1991, I was eight and eleven respectively.   1987 was the first year I “followed” the Minnesota Twins, and I can still remember my father, an ardent Yankees fan, complaining about the Twins that year. It was a beautiful time to be eight and hate the Yankees. Memories of the World Series are not very clear, but for some reason I swear I remember an Ozzie Smith back flip (I hope that actually happened). Once they won that championship, I was hooked (still have a wall plaque of the 198

R&P 14 Rollout

What better time than right now is there to roll out the newest edition of the Roster and Payroll page?   After fiddling with some design changes, there really isn't a lot of options. There are still some potential changes that may be made, but for now you're gonna have to deal with it.   The first thing you see is the PROJECTED payroll. You're gonna see that word a lot because, well... everything you see is a projection. I don't really have any special insight into anything.   The Twins have

1992 Offseason in Review

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   State of the Team   1992 Record: 90-72, second in the AL West 1992 Overview: An extremely solid season that took place before 10 teams made the playoffs. 1993 Outlook: Great...so long as they re-sign their best player.   Players Lost - Free Agency   The Twins lost three important players during the '92 off-season: their long-time starting shortstop, a key offensive contributor to the '91 champs and the team's best starter in '92.   Losing Gre

An Alternate Reality Solution to the Twins Problems

I read this in the Economist last week http://cdn.static-economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/full-width/images/2013/10/blogs/game-theory/20131005_blp502.jpg Cuban athletes in all sports will now be allowed to compete in foreign leagues, as long as they pay taxes of around 20% at home and remain available to play for their country in major competitions. ... Unfortunately for MLB, however, the new policy will have only a minimal impact on the league’s access to Cuban stars....Th

Welp, I guess I'll do it: The Twins should sign Robinson Cano

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   So, I guess I have to be the one to do this, huh? No one else wants to write this? No one will take the obvious grief that will accompany the following 800 or so words. I guess in some way it makes sense. I do hold the distinction for having the least reliable and most obnoxious Twins blog in the stratosphere (using a word like stratosphere is obnoxious). Although, I am more known for putting Twins player heads on bird bodies and writing about

Getting Out of a Hole (a Parable)

A guy falls in to an eight foot deep hole while at work. His boss comes along and the guy says, “hey boss can you get me out of here?”   The boss says, “Things are pretty tight around here so we can’t afford to buy a ladder, but we have this old shovel sitting around. I’ll throw it down and you can dig yourself out.”   It takes a long time, but after a lot of trial and error (sometimes even digging in the wrong place and making the hole deeper) our guy manages to dig himself out of the ho

Justin Morneau 2014

Good afternoon, all. This is my first blog here at Twins Daily. Today, I would like to talk about our man Justin Morneau.   I would like to hear some opinions, I'm sure there will be many.   My questions are: Does Morneau return to Minnesota? What would you pay him if up to you? If not MN, where does Justin go? Is this team better without him?   Please feel free to share your thoughts, I will listen to all opinions whether I agree with them or not.
