Twins Prez Interested in Move From CR to St. Paul?

In September of 2012, the Minnesota Twins announced a four-year affiliation agreement with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, with the Twins’ then-Senior Director of Minor Leagues Jim Rantz telling the media, “We are confident that this relationship will grow into one of the strongest affiliations in minor league baseball.”   Less than two years later, the Twins organization appears to be flirting with another minor league ownership group with an eye toward moving their Class A Midwest League affi

Ranking the Twins All-Star Candidates

Next month's All-Star Game is fast approaching and Target Field will serve as the center of the baseball universe. The starting rosters for the National League and the American League will be announced during the weekend of July 5th-6th and it doesn't seem likely for the Twins to have a starter elected by the fans.   This leaves some question as to who should represent the hometown team in Minnesota's first Mid-Summer Classic since 1985.Joe Mauer has been named MLB's All-Star Ambassador but that

Twins Minor League Report (6/17): Familiar Faces Shine

Minnesota Twins starter Phil Hughes continued his renaissance of 2014, tossing a complete game effort in Fenway Park – a stadium in which he had owned a career ERA of 6.56 in – on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for him, the offense wasn’t to provide enough punch to avoid a tally in the loss column against Jon Lester.   In the minors, one of the affiliates participated in their league’s All-Star Game, while a few familiar names in these reports continued their headlining play.   RED WINGS REPORT Pa

What is sustainable for Danny Santana?

My first exposure to Danny Santana was a spring game against the Red Sox in March. While I certainly remember his flashy play (1-3 with a 2B, a walk and a SB), it was a costly 5th inning fielding error, leading to a 2-run Red Sox rally that gave the defending champs the game, that stuck with me as a perfect example of the inconsistency of Santana’s young career.   That defensive inconsistency was the reason many assumed Santana’s first call-up in early May would be a short one, but he slammed th

2014 Draft Analysis In 5 Words or Less

Sure we're a couple weeks late, and several hundreds of posts short...but we couldn't resist the temptation to continue our annual tradition of giving a run down of every single Twins draft pick for the busy fan. So keep your detailed scouting reports, don't bother worrying over their ETAs in the big leagues all that information is covered in tremendous detail by Seth Stohs and Jeremy Nygard, just appreciate the simplicity of five words for every player. (As always, numbers and punctuation don't

Kernels' Jason Kanzler Keeps Proving Himself

Go ahead and underestimate Cedar Rapids Kernels outfielder Jason Kanzler. He’s used to it. Having to show people they’re wrong about him is nothing new.   ”I think I’ve done that my whole life, pretty much,” Kanzler said. “I was never really at the top on anyone’s priority list. I wasn’t recruited out of high school. I tried to walk on at Northeastern University and I was cut after two weeks.   http://knuckleballsblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Kanzler2014a.jpg Jason Kanzler   "Th

Reactionary or Progressive?

The Gardy and TR era seem to have operated under the philosophy of "at least we know what we've got-good or bad." With that being said, this is some of the good and bad for our boys: K. Suzuki-good handler of pitching staff, contact hitter with little power, good character player, positive club house guy, clutch J. Mauer- perennial all-star, almost certain .300 hitter, lacks power stroke, adequate defensively B. Dozier-budding star, great defensive player, surprising power hitter, good base st

Connections Between Puckett and Gwynn Evident

Baseball lost another great on Monday morning. Hall of Fame hitter Tony Gwynn passed away at the age of 54. He lost his battle after he had been dealing with cancer issues for some time. Gwynn said that he believed the cancer was attributed to his chewing tobacco habit during his playing days.   Fans across Twins Territory can feel the pain that Padres fans are dealing after today's announcement. Former Twins great and Hall of Fame inductee Kirby Puckett also passed away at an early age. It can

Monday Morning Madness: June 16, 2014

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   Weekend Recap   The series started good but ended up doing poorly. Kyle Gibson was excellent on Friday, but Sam Deduno and Ricky Nolasco got boomed like dynamite. Oh well, losing 2 of 3 in Detroit would have to fall into the "expected" category. Who did stuff that was notable? Let's find out!   Ricky Nolasco   On May 28, I asked if we should be worried about Ricky Nolasco. Since that day, Nolasco has made four starts. He's thrown 24 innings,

The Cloudy Future of Aaron Hicks

On May 24th the Twins were in San Francisco for the second game of a three game series. Aaron Hicks was the starting center fielder that day and this day would mark a turning point in his career. Whether it was a turning point for the better or for the worse, remains to be seen.   Ryan Vogelsong, a right-handed pitcher, was the Giants starter that day. This meant the switch-hitting Hicks was batting left-handed. Hicks would struggle on this day going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. He would be removed

Twins Minor League Report (6/13): Meyer Exits Early

Kyle Gibson and the Minnesota Twins shutout Detroit to climb back within one game of .500 and just 3.0 games back of the Tigers divisional lead on Friday.   Unfortunately, the organization’s affiliates didn’t fare as well, going 0-2 (3?) on the night despite some big names on the mound.   RED WINGS REPORT Lehigh Valley 3, Rochester 0 Box score   Alex Meyer was on the hill for the Red Wings, and the first batter he faced would foretell his night, in not a good way. Carew to Puckett to Hunter to Perkins

Originally posted at IowaTwinsFan.com   Through my forty plus years following the Twins I have off and on had one player that stood out as my favorite. As I've grown older the reason for a player earning the designation of "favorite Twin" has evolved. The Carew Era - When I was a young baseball fan   When I first tuned the radio to the Twins in the 70's it was Rod Carew. Rodney made a big impression, he was fast, smooth and graceful. He even made bunting cool. When he stepped into the bo
