Reactionary or Progressive?

The Gardy and TR era seem to have operated under the philosophy of "at least we know what we've got-good or bad." With that being said, this is some of the good and bad for our boys: K. Suzuki-good handler of pitching staff, contact hitter with little power, good character player, positive club house guy, clutch J. Mauer- perennial all-star, almost certain .300 hitter, lacks power stroke, adequate defensively B. Dozier-budding star, great defensive player, surprising power hitter, good base st

Connections Between Puckett and Gwynn Evident

Baseball lost another great on Monday morning. Hall of Fame hitter Tony Gwynn passed away at the age of 54. He lost his battle after he had been dealing with cancer issues for some time. Gwynn said that he believed the cancer was attributed to his chewing tobacco habit during his playing days.   Fans across Twins Territory can feel the pain that Padres fans are dealing after today's announcement. Former Twins great and Hall of Fame inductee Kirby Puckett also passed away at an early age. It can

Monday Morning Madness: June 16, 2014

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   Weekend Recap   The series started good but ended up doing poorly. Kyle Gibson was excellent on Friday, but Sam Deduno and Ricky Nolasco got boomed like dynamite. Oh well, losing 2 of 3 in Detroit would have to fall into the "expected" category. Who did stuff that was notable? Let's find out!   Ricky Nolasco   On May 28, I asked if we should be worried about Ricky Nolasco. Since that day, Nolasco has made four starts. He's thrown 24 innings,

The Cloudy Future of Aaron Hicks

On May 24th the Twins were in San Francisco for the second game of a three game series. Aaron Hicks was the starting center fielder that day and this day would mark a turning point in his career. Whether it was a turning point for the better or for the worse, remains to be seen.   Ryan Vogelsong, a right-handed pitcher, was the Giants starter that day. This meant the switch-hitting Hicks was batting left-handed. Hicks would struggle on this day going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. He would be removed

Twins Minor League Report (6/13): Meyer Exits Early

Kyle Gibson and the Minnesota Twins shutout Detroit to climb back within one game of .500 and just 3.0 games back of the Tigers divisional lead on Friday.   Unfortunately, the organization’s affiliates didn’t fare as well, going 0-2 (3?) on the night despite some big names on the mound.   RED WINGS REPORT Lehigh Valley 3, Rochester 0 Box score   Alex Meyer was on the hill for the Red Wings, and the first batter he faced would foretell his night, in not a good way. His second pitch of the game

Carew to Puckett to Hunter to Perkins

Originally posted at IowaTwinsFan.com   Through my forty plus years following the Twins I have off and on had one player that stood out as my favorite. As I've grown older the reason for a player earning the designation of "favorite Twin" has evolved. The Carew Era - When I was a young baseball fan   When I first tuned the radio to the Twins in the 70's it was Rod Carew. Rodney made a big impression, he was fast, smooth and graceful. He even made bunting cool. When he stepped into the bo

You've probably read about all of their draft picks, even guys drafted after the first few rounds, like Minnesota native Pat Kelly, who was taken in the 10th round. Jay is driving the episode this week, so prepare your ears for a little different sound, but have no fear, other than lots of cat noises in the

Twins Minor League Report (6/10): Shibuya Flirts with No-No

The Twins took care of business in Toronto on Tuesday night and most of the teams in the minor leagues were able to follow their lead. It didn't take long for Kendrys Morales to remember how to hit and Brian Dozier is putting himself into the All-Star conversation at second base.   Minnesota is in the mix for the playoffs and many of their minor league affiliates are fighting for first half titles. Every win is important so let's jump down on the pond to check out the action.   RED WINGS REPORT

Thorpe, Romero Make Kernels Debuts

As the Cedar Rapids Kernels wrap up the final stretch of the first half of their 2014 Midwest League season, the parent Minnesota Twins sent them some needed starting pitching help in the form of two teenage pitching prospects.   Australian 18-year old lefty Lewis Thorpe and right-hander Fernando Romero, a 19-year old out of the Dominican Republic joined the Kernels from extended spring training last week and both were immediately inserted in to the starting rotation by manager Jake Mauer
