I know that hitters try to read pitchers. Do pitchers read hitters, too? I suppose they do, if they think they see something that indicates a hitter's intention. Recently I've been watching Joe Mauer's at-bats, and I may have detected something that pitchers and catchers are using against him. It's common knowledge that Mauer wants to become more of a power hitter, turn on inside pitches, pull and lift them. What I've noticed is that Mauer seems to be tipping off his intention to try pulli

Trevor talked about his approach to pitching, what he's been doing in 2014 that has allowed him to be successful, and how much fun he's having as a member of the outstanding pitching staff in Triple-A Rochester. Just Cody and Eric this week, in addition to talking with Trevor May, they talk about what the Twins have been doing well (pitching) and what they have not been d
Did anyone else read Jim Caple’s recent article on ESPN.com about Tony Gwynn and chewing tobacco? In the article he advocates for the ban of on-field use of chew in MLB, noting that it is already banned in MiLB. The topic at hand certainly evokes strong opinions; somewhere along the lines of individual freedoms vs. general health and well-being, with a whole host of other considerations on the side. I was drawn to the article because I was saddened and angered to learn that Gwynn’s passing was
We see it over and over, a player gets hot, he hits everything, then he slumps a little and it just continues. Heres what you do, Arcia being the prime target for this, sit him down, two-three games, never let him get into a prolonged slump and let him go for 5+ games whiffing at everything. Parmalee when he first came back did the same thing..then the slump..not three hits yesterday, in Arcia and Parmalee we have the ideal duo to do this. Joe needs to sit as well..so Parms can go there
Oswaldo Aria is one of my favorite Twins. When he came back up from his wrist injury, he brought energy, enthusiasm, and attitude along with his power stroke. Sadly, he has regressed big time in the month of June. In his last 10 games, here is his line, and it's not pretty: 2-32(.063) with 17 K's, with 0 runs scored and 0 RBI's. On the positive side, he does have one double and one walk. His defensive play borders on little- league material. I believe it was in the Brewer series (I could be wr
Hello Twins Fans. Here’s abrief look at what dad and I talked about on tonight’s Troy’s Twins Chat show. We started off by discussing the recent week’s play for the Twins in Boston and Detroit. Also, I gave the pitching probables for the upcoming series against the Chicago White Sox. Towards the end of the show, we discussed Tony Gwynn and debated who was the best hitter since Ted Williams. What's up with this guy? I was watching him last year, and he was absolutely lights out at Fort Meyers (something like 9-0) with a crazy low ERA. He was promoted to New Briton was was shelled! He started this year at New Briton again with the same results. I believe he was hurt, and sent back to Fort Meyers. Tonight he threw 6 scoreless innings. Is he a prospect or not?

5 days ago, Kyle Gibson pitched the Twins passed the Tigers to tighten the gap to only 3 games. Since, the team has endured an ugly, gut-wrenching 5 game losing streak to fall to 6 games under .500, 6.5 games back in the central, and 5 games back in the Wild Card. What this losing streak showed, especially the 3 game sweep in Boston, was that the Twins are probably done after being relevant for the better part of the first half. With this drop in the standings means in the need to sell off
While the rest of America is struggling to find a seat on the World Cup bandwagon and spouting off regurgitated soccer stats, we here at Twins And Losses have been MIA. Plain and simple, we’ve been busy with life, and we suck! So here’s a photo that hopefully brings a smile to your faces: http://www.twinsandlosses.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/1959348_10104725105941750_3375576155633379102_n.jpg Some quick notes: - Kevin Correia’s monthly ERA total has gone down drastically each month. As a know
Glen Perkins talked about Josmil Pinto and his ability to frame pitches. He didn't mention Kurt Suzuki. I guess he wasn't asked. Nor was he asked about Ryan Doumit in previous years. Since 2011 it has been debated about the Twins decision making on catcher and defense. At best, they are waiting to see if the data that has been available for many season has validity. At worst, they are ignorant and that ignorance shows in their roster decisions as well as their development of catchers in the mi
On Saturday, Tait went 2-for-4 with a walk and his 17th double. The 19-year-old is hitting .219 with 17 doubles and 15 home runs at High-A Cedar Rapids.
