  1. Nice story Seth, I forgot he was a rule 5 guy. Or that TD has been around since 2013. He was a great catch by the Twins. Or maybe better said catch and release. He was too big for Twins boat. What a shortsighted decision it was to move him. Twins didnt need that kind of good! But it certainly was a great career move for him. Congrats to RP for his part in history last night.
  2. Stats say Correa was an appreciably better player than Jeremy Pena this season. But Houston was still willing to let him walk and swap out Pena as their SS. Pena's reg season results were good, but Correa was better individually. But the Astros won more games in reg season than '21, won another pennant, and Pena was alcs mvp. For 34.3 million less than Correa made. Its still a team game, Somebody needs Correas talent to help them fill out a roster filled with championship caliber potential. It wont be the Twins or Astros. The Astros team functions quite well with his replacement. Correa by himself does not move the needle much for Twins. They are just slightly better than awful with him. Yankees or Dodgers are good fits, with legit needs to fill out their teams. Twins need to find a few more of their own Jeremy Pena's to make spending on the Correa's of the world worth it.
  3. And dont do extensions at market rate values for anyone mid-tier or above. Tends to narrow the field a bit.
  4. Rodon would be nice but cant see him coming here. Ditto DeGrom. Wonder if Maeda might help them compete for Senga? He's probably getting north of Bassit in AAV, but that should be doable for Twins. Go all in pursuing Montero for BP.
  5. Yeah, I had to double-take 1/2 way through the post....having some nostalgia for Graterol, Littel Chargois....hindsight says they would have been nice BP pieces this year. BP guys are so hard to predict year to year.
  6. Liking Rodon and Montero additions, pitching is still numero uno needs improvement if Twins want to move the needle to legitimacy. Position roster just feels like a mess (generally speaking, not soecific to your ideas here)of a jigsaw puzzle where 1/2 the pieces dont fit with anything else. I like your creativity trying to address the need in of and ss especially.
  7. Pretty much everything chpettit19 says here is spot on. It's a great concept and business plan, requires having the talent in the system, identifying the talent early on and moving quickly. Hoping Twins have guys of this caliber in the system, Lewis? Lee? Like Chpettit, I have high hopes for Lewis/Lee combo, could see one or both of those two fitting this kind of profile.
  8. Seth, does the Dominican League count as a full MiLB season? I am surprised to learn that signing a 16 yr old int'l player means teams have to decide by age 22 whether or not to commit. Seems like a huge risk with a 4M bonus. Dont know any of these guys, but can note that, officially, the Jake Cave-era has ended, unless we trade for him this winter?
  9. Nice breakdown, soon the deciding time starts....
  10. Interesting they have Martin at SS. And seems we're not the only ones with struggling pitching so far. Will be great to see how they do.
  11. "...the Twins days of pretending they have the baseline of a first-place roster capable of carrying one-dimensional role players may be in the past..." Speaking truth Cody. I would only swap "may be" for "is". In answer to title question, yes.
  12. I could accept another year of Pagan if it meant free Heiniken, all you could eat brats, and $1 lower level seating at TF. And reruns of Cheers on their new big screen scoreboard after the 5th inning of every game.
  13. Sobering assessment to say the least, and no clear way forward. They will have to roll the dice with some of these guys, when its down to Plan K, L, M, let alone Plan B, options are so limited. It may be an era of injury-forced reconstruction of most of the ML roster.
  14. Agree with most of this, the only caveat being Miranda as long term 3B. Maybe that happens, but I would guess one of Lee or Lewis makes that transition in '24. Next season is about figuring out who plays where in the IF. AK needs to prove he can stay healthy, and be effective coming off the wrist. I hope they dont build the infield on an assumption that AK is going to seamlessly work back into FT duty at 1B. Hire a 1B tutor for Miranda over the winter, let him figure out how to play the position. Maybe that means Urshela is back on a 1yr deal, and as others have suggested, he could be a movable piece in July if one or two of the IF prospects show any staying power. I can't see them committing to Urshela beyond 1 yr though.
  15. Lewis and Lee coming up together, its not hard to imagine these two combo 3B/SS.....seems like a promising left side of the infield. Lee had a serious knee reconstruction as freshman at college, more involved than Lewis's ACL. He's fine, gotta believe Lewis will be fine. I'm pumped to see these two together.
  16. RHP Jordan Balazovic (0-7, 7.81 ERA)
  17. Maybe Kep sees 2023 as a contract year and steps it up. But I had that hope for Sano this year. If some other team wants to make a fair trade theyd have to consider- nobody on this roster is untouchable. I just dont see it happening, but you never know. Agree with others Kep's value may be in 4th OF spot, backing up Buck, if only for defense. Assuming they have someone better for RF fulltime. I really had hoped he would have a great career, so this decline was disappointing.
  18. "...it is quite possible Twins fans have seen the end of Bundy’s time in a Twins uniform. " There is always hope! But then, who replaces Bundy? And hope flickers, like the gasping wisp of the candle wick's reality as the last bit of oxygen in the jar is consumed while the lid is secured.....that is what it is like to consider the Minnesota Twins 2023 pitching staff.
  19. There are only 9 games left?
  20. Buck finished slightly ahead of his post-2017 seasonal average for games played. From that perspective, the health plan can claim a slight improvement, comparatively speaking. But it seems unlikely FO was looking for an incremental improvement. I love Buck. He is Twins' best player. But if the best player peaks at playing 55% of games in the period 2018-2022, the team needs to find another best player. Let Buck become the complementary piece his history says he is, and end the annual roller coaster of expecting 150 All Star caliber games from the man. The inevitable injuries are too disruptive, so more realistic planning around him seems appropriate.
  21. How to figure out Twins pitching staff 2023:
  22. Hmmm, not knowing what the injury is, and surgical treatment is, it seems that "getting his knee healthier" is a relative concept. Maybe better said, getting his knee functional, and hoping he doesnt do more damage when he resumes full speed. This is really not good news. Not unexpected, but not good. Hope it goes well for him regardless. But Twins need a Plan B beyond a Buck-FT-in-CF next year.
