  1. A Clinton-Sanders ticket is probably much too old. But is it still a possibility? Sanders might be the best bet to keep some of the Independent voters from Trump as they do appear to have some, even if small, overlap in their draw. On the other hand, Sanders might not want the job. Had Cruz or Rubio gotten the nominee, a Hispanic like Julian Castro probably would have been a favorite, but would he still be a guy near the top of the list?
  2. Who's asking? You wearing a wire?
  3. Pressly earned a spot last year, he was the second best BP arm last year before he went down. If spots were guaranteed prior to spring training, he should have been a lock. I think we are too assumptive that Fein is a lock due to his veteran status.
  4. It sure looks like Jimmy is going to break from corporate law quickly. Perhaps that will spur his story to the places we always expected. I also originally thought that Gus wouldn't be introduced any time soon as there never appeared to be a Saul/Gus interaction prior to breaking bad and I thought introducing that to Mike's story would keep him more isolated from Jimmy so as not to contradict anything from Breaking Bad. Gus might pop up soon though the way the story is going. He certainly would be an asset to Mike right about now.
  5. I was thinking maybe they did it to protect him. If it ain't happening, no need to continue to destroy his shoulder with what sounds like a terribly stressful deliver.
  6. I do love Lucas' classic work, it's some of my favorite childhood memories, but I don't think it was getting old that was the issue, it was stubbornness and caring more about merchandising than the product. Lucas and Spielberg should be tied at the hip in regards to any criticism, yet they're not. Spielberg isn't so stubborn, he's given away projects that he didn't agree with the vision on. Aside from Jurassic Park, Spielberg no longer does films that can be counted on for huge merchandising revenues except for the ones he has done with Lucas. No one's buying "Lincoln" or "Munich" action figures.
  7. Well it could be argued that he started losing his touch as far back as 1983 when he added teddy bears to Jedi simply for the merchandising and his legendary ego and stubbornness, which resulted in the split with the Directors Guild of America, caused him not to be able to hire Steven freaken' Spielberg in his prime to direct it. (Jedi - Ewoks) + Spielberg = perhaps the best of them all. But we shall never know.
  8. Yeah, it sonded like Frank Darabount wrote a script that Spielberg and Ford liked but Lucas didn't and of course Lucas got his way. After everything that's happened since, I think it's probably best to assume that Star Wars and Empire were created on complete dumb luck.
  9. Because the Pirates could have scored more runs? Or because the Twins could have scored negative runs?
  10. Very interesting, and perhaps dampens some of the long standing concerns regarding Ervin Santana. Perhaps someone could fill me in. As ligaments and tendons are not able to regenerate, what do these non-operative treatments actually do to prevent the full tear? Because all I can picture is a frayed cord and at some point frayed cords almost always give way under tension. These exercises sound like they may strengthen the anchor points, but again in my mental picture that's not going to make a difference in the fray. This must not be completely accurate.
  11. I like the move. I'd keep trying him as a starter until he's out of options, then try to wedge him into relief. It's not like he's going to learn any less being a starter than he would a reliever, he's going to AAA regardless. His path may be easier as a reliever, but the Twins already have multiple bullpen guys who can do what he does and meet his potential, they can't say the same for the rotation. If he flops as a starter at Rochester, I'm sure it will be a short experiment anyway. And sorry Red Wing fans, I would fail a polygraph if I were asked if I cared more about the AAA team's record than I did about the player development.
  12. If this stuff was actually in the contract and LaRoche wanted it honored, the MLBPA would already be filing a grievance. If this was of the utmost importance to him, he should have gotten it in writing, just like he did the terms of his pay. If the White Sox are backtracking off of some verbal discussion that's legal, they may pay for it in future contract talks/free agency, but that's their prerogative. I also think it's crazy to assume Chris Sale speaks for all White Sox players. Just because the team ace and the most integral person on the team is upset doesn't mean everyone else is. It's unlikely the guys who are much more expendable than Sale are going to publicly say they disagree with him, and judging by the majority of responses here, having a co-workers kids at the workplace every day is not a popular sentiment.
  13. Exactly, because the odds of you having the ability to become a blacksmith or farmer due to your education under tutelage in that field is much higher than becoming a professional athlete.
  14. I don't, I was pointing out the opposite; I was refuting the idea that we should chastise the Twins for not making their decision on Ortiz based on his OPS.
  15. I actually like Nolasco's chances of making the rotation less after his agent publicly implied that Ricky would ask for a trade if he was sent to the pen. First, Ryan does not appear to be one that would cave to an ultimatum, and second, if putting Nolasco in the pen means his agent will be working overtime to find a trade for his client, that sounds like a fantastic incentive to demote him, even if his agent is delusional.
  16. It was a terrible move and it should have never happened, but I don't think the Twins were gauging players based on OPS in 2002. They still may not be at the top of the game in terms of using statistics, but they have made a concerted effort to improve. It seems pretty unfair to keep hammering away at something they know they screwed up and have made strides to rectify. The whole premise of this thread is the Twins "fear" making the Ortiz mistake again. Isn't learning from the past what people who are still harping on this want? Or is it actually to re-stigmatize someone for an ancient blunder? Also, as far as OPS goes, Eduardo Nunez had the Twins 2nd highest OPS last year and people have been yelling to DFA him since the season ended. If we're using that stat, we still have folks 15 years later who are blind to it.
  17. I'd settle for no less than Phil Hughes.
  18. Isn't another way of saying the Twins have a fear of losing another Ortiz basically saying they are trying to learn from their past mistakes?
  19. Why shouldn't the front office get to dictate the atmosphere of the clubhouse? The team still owns the workplace. Every other employer gets to make the rules, and employees simply grouse about it. It happens everywhere else, why not here? It shouldn't matter how much money the inmates make, they shouldn't be running the assylum.
  20. Obviously you can't glean much from a ten second clip, but that implied a much lighter show than DD and JJ.
  21. I finished House of Cards season four just before the NCAA tourney started. I plan on picking up DD season 2 Monday after the first two rounds are over.
  22. I steal all my best ideas.
  23. Right, because more often than not the run out to their defensive position is the players most strenuous activity that half inning. And that's nothing compared to the pre-game warning track run. Besides, if we really want to keep the outfielder's legs fresh, we should probably instead focus on getting all the strikeout arms that were sent packing recalled.
  24. Now I'm dreaming about Chris Sale demanding a trade out of the division. Or how about: Nolasco for Sale? Both seem like change of scenery-type guys now.
  25. Polanco looks ready, but I do want to see him play every day. I also want to see Escobar and Dozier play every day. Nunez and Santana are fine utility guys, but the team is going to have to try and make a move if they want to give Polanco regular MLB at bats.
