  1. The show is great, my fear though is fans are going to start getting restless if the Mike part of the story isn't shown often enough. Breaking Bad was awesome and it was tense nearly the whole time. Legal dramas don't really bring that same element, but as we saw in this last episode, dealing with dangerous drug dealers does, and Mike appears set to be doing a lot of that.
  2. Same for me, but only because Hughes was first. I wouldn't have cared much either way which one the Twins signed long-term, but I didn't want both. I said at the time, that I applauded Ryan for his bold move in signing Nolasco, but I didn't like the pitcher. I'm still not going to criticize him for finally taking a risk, even if there were different risks I would have preferred.
  3. Why not just transfer the last 60 wherever the hell they sent the other thousands of transfers then? Then when congress still refuses to close it the Republicans get to explain to everyone why the taxpayers have to foot the bill for hundreds of millions per year to run an empty prison and force service men and women to live in Cuba instead of going home to their families or serve in a place where they'd be put to actual use? Sounds like a great strategy to make sure anyone who pretends to be fiscally conservative and pro military gets called out for really only trying to stop Obama from getting anything done. $450M per year for 60 prisoners? Give me a break Ryan.
  4. Why, it's what the Republican's are saying needs to happen. They are saying that the next president should choose. Or do they only mean the next Republican president should choose? There is no reason for them to block the nomination process itself unless they are trying to say that the President gets to choose, no questions asked. The nomination process is their chance to make their case, they are choosing not to use it.
  5. What am I missing here? Obama wants to close it and transfer the 60 or so prisoners left but the Republicans say they will block it. 80% of the prisoners have already been transferred, why doesn't Obama just do the same with the remaining 60? He shouldn't need congress to move prisoners, I doubt they all voted on the thousands of previous prisoners that have been transferred. That would leave an empty Gitmo costing hundreds of millions of dollars a year and no justification to leave it open.
  6. They both were included in that trade, I regretfully left out Hardy like a mis-treated step child on a family tree.
  7. Why would you set your lineup based on career numbers instead of what the player is doing for you currently? Lineup setting better be fluid, it always has been as long as I can remember.
  8. At this point, I hope Mcconnell and company get their way and Hilary appoints a homosexual, Hispanic, Muslim who lives below the poverty line, was born in Russia and went to public school.
  9. I agree that Democrats shouldn't generally use the, "principle" aspect of this issue unless the Republicans do in which case it should be fair game for them to also be able to use the same card. Conservative posters here don't seem to be saying this is a matter of principle, but the candidates/Senators certainly are.
  10. So Republican's are listening to Joe Biden now? The "rule" is unwritten and it was called the Thurmond Rule where a lame duck president shouldn't nominate anyone after July. It's not even close to July. And when Democrats pointed out that Bush was appointing lower district court judges within this time frame, the Republicans said there was no such rule and they could do what they wanted.
  11. Republican's can't/shouldn't what?
  12. Scalia would be so proud of their utter disregard for the constitutional process. Everyone knows how anti-constitution he was. I'd like to hear what the other eight justices think of congress not hearing a legit nomination process. I wonder how people would react if a justice died in the first year of Obama's presidency. Who would be OK with him dragging HIS feet and not nominating anyone for a year?
  13. Still, your only looking at his career. The second half of last year, Escobar got on base better than Dozier and Buxton and he was clearly a better overall player than all three of those guys. If he plays like he did in last year's second half, why wouldn't he be considered a better fit? At least a better fit than the already OBP challenged Dozier.
  14. None of Escobar's numbers look great when looking at his career, but like the rest of his stats, his OBP was much better after getting the full time gig and was .330 in the second half last year. That's not spectacular, but if he can do that again, he's not a bad option for the top of the lineup.
  15. Lot's of fans said they should. Obviously the team didn't want to but that decision wasn't based on long term winning, it was based on putting fans in the seats at all costs. And it still failed.
  16. Those flyers aren't so much of a crap shoot though because pitchers on 1-2 year deals are a lot easier to move than guys on 4-year deals. Signing guys like Buehrle wasn't going to put this team over the top. He's barely a step up over the Santana/Nolasco/Hughes kinds of deals. If the Twins were going to go from rock-bottom with no prospect help to contenders, they would have had to go with the big name free agents on mega contracts.
  17. I agree that Park was pretty redundant, but his contract is so cheap he's basically being paid like a bench player. He's a lotto ticket and I'm more than willing to gamble with that power upside. I don't like 3-4 year deals either, but if he's as bad as Nishioka, I have no doubt that the Twins would eat the remaining $6M and DFA'ing him after two years. It's not Twins-like, but it's not unheard of, and besides, it'll be a drop in the bucket compared to what they'll have already eaten having already gotten rid of Nolasco by that time.
  18. Yeah, the line up isn't ideal that's for sure. They can't put the guys who profile best for certain lineup spots AND keep the lefty/righty aspect balanced. While he's not a better player, a decent Jorge Polanco with his switch hitting and decent OBP would be a much better fit for this team than Brian Dozier, and a Buxton/Polanco top of the order would fix the problem just like that. ****But again, I am not saying that Polanco is a better player, a better option or a more logical solution to Brian Dozier who is a very good baseball player.
  19. I think the argument really isn't "Is the Twins system broken" so much as it is "Is the Twins system obsolete". It might be, maybe not all of it though, maybe not most of it. After all, things are often cyclical and things that are old often times once again become new. The Astros and Cubs showed again last year that the homegrown method of drafting and acquiring young talent is a very practical way of winning. Again. That used to be in the Twins wheelhouse if it still isn't. Plenty of other areas of the system surely have updates that are long overdue though.
  20. Who? Aside from Mark Lowe who we've already discussed as a guy who was underrated, I don't see free agent pitchers in 2015-16 that had markedly better numbers than Stauffer last year. Stauffer had three starts in 2014, other than that he was largely one-inning relief pitcher. His peripherals in 2013-14 were better than Tyler Clippard and Joakim Soria in 2015 and were inline with Ryan Madson.
  21. But they don't know where the holes are. Everyone wanted the bullpen upgraded even though there are at least a half dozen young arms who might excel in that role. Or they might not. We don't know yet, I'm OK waiting to find out.
  22. You've been asking for bullpen upgrades all off season, how were Stauffer's 2013-14 numbers really much different than the guys you wanted this year? Stauffer wasn't any good last year, that happens all the time with free agent relievers, more so than any other position.
  23. You're probably right. The complaint perhaps should be aimed at the Strib still running it with that stupidly misleading headline, but really with the Strib, take a number.
  24. No, just giving details and letting the readers interpret what they mean. This is not subjective: --He said: “They are mad the Twins didn’t sign Zack Greinke.’’ Have to admit, I didn’t realize that was a controversy. I spend way too much time in the real world.--. That's not subjective. Don't make that comment. The easiest way to not have to make that comment is to not acknowledge the idiot who caused you to think that. If Reusse thinks his job as a reporter for the Strib means he has to respond to people like that, than he has his newspaper job and his call in radio job mixed up.
  25. The nujobs can have the talk radio and the op-eds. Can I at least read subjective reporting? Is there nowhere for the rest of us to go any longer? Is it too much for Reusse and anyone who thinks they are still an actual journalist to ignore the crazies like the rest of us do in the real world? Don't pay them any mind and they'll have to go elsewhere.
