  1. Plenty of bad ideas, but we always need new ideas. Some will fail. I don't think Sanders could get anything accomplished, and I don't know that some of his plans have very strong foundations, on the other hand I'd still be willing to try some of them, I'm not afraid of trying something new if the current way isn't working. I'm not sure how over-taxation will drive away the rich though. Where are they going? Even if they left though, that's a short term pain for a long term gain. The void they left will someday be filled by someone who is willing to work within a framework that is better for the country.
  2. No way, quite the opposite. Liberals tend to favor short term pain for long term gain, conservatives fight change. Fighting climate change, universal healthcare, increasing taxes on the wealthy, regulating banks and other institutions, putting the hurt on big oil/big pharma/big tobacco/NRA, these are all largely liberal platforms. I'd bet plenty of Republican voters would be OK with short term pain to benefit long term gain, but the deep pocket folks who influence the Republican Party (and to be fair, plenty of Democrats are in the pockets of some of these special interests) are making every attempt possible to steer these discussions in other directions, namely BS arguments that these things are threatening democracy or the free market. They only do this to get every last dime before their time of relevancy is up. Liberals are all about looking forward; it's basic evolution, a subject plenty of conservatives pretend doesn't exist.
  3. If he makes the team, I can't help but think this means either Arcia or Vargas will be DFA'd which would make this a terrible move. However if the team is able to somehow keep both and Quentin, great. His best attribute is his ability to get on base. If he has any juice left, that is something the Twins desperately need. He probably doesn't and I'll bet we'll have our answer very quickly.
  4. I would like to see Molitor be bold with the lineup, as there won't be a lot of traditional LH options for the middle of the order. Mauer has little power, Rosario has moderate power and poor on base skills, and Arcia and Vargas are untested AND in a roster crunch.
  5. And the second amendment applied to front loading muskets and freedom of speech was protected by the right to pour hot tar on dissenters. They did believe in socialized healthcare though, that is the community would gather together to burn alive those in need of mental help.
  6. I was just looking at some fantasy baseball rankings at CBS Sports. I wanted to see how far down you had to go before you ran across a Twins starter. Sadly. Al Malchoir had the first Twin at #71. And it was Jose Berrios. #77 was Trevor May. The first actual starter was Ervin Santana at #91. Fantasy baseball is not the same as actual baseball, but I believe there is a much stronger correlation than many folks in the Twins front office would like to believe.
  7. That's not being barraged. I counted the one sentence quote, it was 22 words total and that's if you count St. Paul as two words. We got one report on Mauer all off season. An off season in which very little has happened. Twins baseball writers have been an inch away from reporting on Trevor May's new dog; Mauer is largely an afterthought these days. And who said anything about "pull power"? Why don't you want to hear one word of it. It has nothing to do with the throw-away line from a trainer about Mauer's off season, and instead sounds like an attempt to push any discussion on Mauer into another direction. This has gone past subjective observation and headed deep into personal grudge territory. As far as I can see, the only point of all of the old articles you are referencing is to say that Mauer isn't the player he used to be and he likely never will again, but no one is arguing otherwise. It is clear that the only point of this exercise is to rip Mauer.
  8. The most recent of those was from May. We aren't being barraged with anything regarding Mauer. As far as I can tell, we have one recent report that said Joe has been increasing his strength. I think it's entirely possible that in 2016, more words have been spilled regarding Mauer in this thread alone than in the rest of the collective sports writing community combined.
  9. Sano looked faster than Torii Hunter last year, and for all the teeth gnashing over Hunter's defense in Detroit, he was just fine last year at Target Field. The ability to play the position is going to vary pending on the size of the ballpark, in the case of the tiny RF at Target Field, a team can get away with a lot in terms of athletic ability. I'm not saying the other aspects of playing OF shouldn't be fair game, but Sano's range shouldn't be an issue, particularly if you have a strong defensive LF and CF who can help cheat over the RF way. As for not losing more than 5 pounds because he wanted to keep his power: unless the Twins asked him to lose some muscle mass, I'm missing the correlation.
  10. Don't get me wrong, I like Bernie, but I think a dozen platforms might even be pushing it. He redirects nearly every response back to his economic ideas. I agree with most of his economic reforms; I could probably get behind all of them if framed correctly, but he's a one trick pony and he appears to be as inflexible as the tea party which his supporters so despise. Half of his ideas won't even get enough support from Democrats in congress, nothing would get done and the sour taste left by the inaction would only serve to push support back toward the right. Like it or not, any kind of socialistic policies will have to come slowly and from a more moderate Democrat.
  11. Are we really demanding some kind of verification of Mauer's added strength? Anyone hoping for before and after weight lifting videos better not hold their breath. Strength probably isn't a very good attribute to question anyway. Historically, strength does tend to increase or remain consistent for aging athletes. It's reaction time, speed, stamina and quickness that are the typical attributes that decline. I'm also wondering if the concern over strength is still in terms of his HR totals; strength alone isn't going to increase those numbers. His lack of power is due to his extremely level swing which generates minimal lift, and Mauer's tendency to wait so long on pitches that contact occurs in the back of the zone as opposed to the front (Hat tip to past Parker analysis). Unless he changes his swing and approach, I don't think increased strength is going to show up as HR numbers.
  12. Yeah, that arguement went nowhere fast, and the more I persisted the more she distrusted me.
  13. So they ask for donations at the end. Is that just to make more comedy videos?
  14. Tried to get the wife to watch Hot Girls Wanted but she said no and that I was just a dirty pervert.
  15. Me too, I must have been asleep when KC signed him last week. I wouldn't be surprised if he does well for them. No idea why the Twins didn't give him a shot last year when the MLB pen was in the dumper by June. Strangely they tried to convert him to a starter.
  16. The ageism? I am saying it's a bad thing. It's in play for voters though unfortunately. Or at least the candidates believe it is. At least it works both ways though as evidenced by the younger Obama picking an experienced vet in Biden.
  17. Plus, sorry to imply ageism, but that ticket also has way too much grey hair.
  18. While Ryan certainly wanted to make the implication that the Twins didn't entertain offers, that's not exactly what Berardino reported. He said they "did not entertain offers/make him available". That doesn't in any way deny that they got offers, just that they didn't entertain them, something he would say regardless if the Twins actually did or didn't discuss moving him.
  19. I prefer the flexibility of the super utility route. When Buxton takes the CF job, I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins go the Jarrod Dyson mold with Santana. Of course the problem is Santana is neither the base runner or defensive replacement that Dyson is.
  20. I was actually thinking the opposite, as Arcia now has to compete with Santana along with possibly Sweeny, Benson, Mastroianni and Kepler. Nunez now competes with Polanco, and only maybe.
  21. She would probably be a good match for O'Malley as a running mate. He's, um, got a good shot I'm sure.
  22. Tate was nearly everyone's top pitcher. Plenty of people were ranking Aiken, Allard and Fulmer over Jay. We saw lots of projections with Jay being the #2 pitcher taken but that was mostly because everyone knew the Twins were interested and simply projected him there.
  23. As do I, but at this point, my number one goal would be to keep Cruz and Trump out of the White House even if the compromise is that Clinto is the nom. Frankly, I wish Elizabeth Warren was an option.
  24. -St. Peter mentioned that Dan Gladden and Cesar Tovar finished second and third in the voting, respectively.- Good players both, but I liked last year's idea of not requiring someone to get in. Regardless of his broadcasting skills, Gladden could get in more on a lifetime achievement with the organization. Someday. Hunter makes sense, they can do Gardy next year. Otherwise just wait until the clear cut guys are eligible, Mauer, Morneau, Nathan, Cuddyer maybe, Santana. Speaking of which, these rules seem pretty informal. Does Santana actually have to retire? Or be out of the league for a year, because... -The Twins will have two translators. One will speak Korean and work with the Twins and Park. One will be a Spanish interpreter which is something MLB is requiring for all teams.- I'm mostly just disheartened that MLB had to require this. Which teams didn't think it made enough business sense to do this one their own?
