I agree, if the cops did this, they did it because they thought he was guilty, not because they did the murdering. I would also argue that the frame job, if there was one, was not masterful, but very poorly done with huge holes and leaps of logic. In fact, with the bones found in the quarry and the car found poorly hidden on his property, if the cops DIDN'T plant evidence, to me the most likely scenario is that Avery framed himself to frame the cops. And that just sounds crazy. I also don't think it would take more than two cops to do the dirty work. The other non-felonious cops may strongly suspect those two of being dirty, but they'd likely have little to no proof and suggesting such publicly would put a guy they probably think is guilty back on the street. And to be fair, if we had a guy who the majority of the community strongly believed to be a murdering rapist, there would be a fairly large contingent of the population that would be A OK with the cops breaking the rules to put him away. I can't imagine the pressure to do so in a small town.

Thanks for posting and welcome to TD. I hope it's not impertinent but I googled you after your post made it clear that you had a high degree of personal knowledge about our team's new scout. You too have a very impressive baseball resume, thanks for contributing here.

I'm wondering if Luke Cage season 1 is going to happen after JJ season 1 or if it will be a prequel kind of thing. More seasons of JJ and Luke Cage seem kind of odd unless those two aren't going to be interacting any time in the near future. Seems like it could, perhaps should be a co-ed production. Edit: Though a co-ed show would probably take away from the huge Girl Power theme that JJ carefully cultivated.

You hated the character? Or the actor? Because I kind of think we were all supposed to hate the character, which obviously means he succeeded. Tangent: Also, funny to see that Rick (and obviously Carol) have become way more ruthless than Shane was.

I'm not sure if you are questioning the fact that they may have framed an innocent man, or the fact that they framed anyone at all. Because if they had nothing to do with it, wouldn't you want to stay a million miles away from this case simply to so everyone can see you're not involved? This sheriffs department seems like a small outfit likely not used to high profile or complicated cases, and neither Lenk, Colburn nor the original officers from the original arrest struck me as very bright individuals. At least not what we would expect from police officers. The fact that the two guys who should never have been at the crime scene in the first place kept finding the key evidence long after it should have been found is very hard to buy. They should have known better, the fact that they didn't kind of implies that these guys aren't very smart and were way over their heads and had no clue that they'd be facing this kind of scrutiny. I think it was highly likely that at least some of the evidence was planted by some not very bright officers because even if 95% of the documentary was BS there's just no justifiable explanation for these guys continuing to show up. If someone trying to be objective thinks this, I also think that almost certainly means the jury also believed there was a strong possibility evidence was planted, but recognized that idiot cops doesn't automatically mean a guy is innocent and came to the same conclusion the cops did, that Avery did it, even if the cops were dirty and stupid.

Interesting. On one hand I like the idea that the Twins have taken away someone who appears to be a useful tool for the other 29 teams. On the other, I am one of those pounding the drum for everything younger and analytical. I'd guess now that Burrows is off the table, the teams that were using him will likely now just decide to hire their own Canada specific scout(s) as I doubt any team is so tight that they'd just cross off Canada as a pipeline option. Hopefully this guy is head and shoulders above those guys.

An Updated Look At Twins Payroll
nicksaviking replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't want to see them spend money just to spend money. I'm not trying to defend the team, I'm just more concerned with the fact that they still only have 25 roster spots and I want as many as possible to go to players in their early to mid 20s. I'm not against free agents or vets, I'm just against more free agents and vets. We can't un-sign the ones we have, those horses are already out of the barn. -
An Updated Look At Twins Payroll
nicksaviking replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about they put that down as an operating expense akin to advertising, stadium maintenance and hot dog vendor fees. The money went to Park's previous team, not Park. I don't know why a negotiation expense would be added to payroll. It's not going to effect Park's FICA deductions. "Payroll" is pretty arbitrary anyway, an expense is an expense, adding the posting fee to "payroll" is only to inflate the appearance. I doubt there are any rules for calculating and publishing payroll. Should they want, they could probably add the cost of uniforms, travel reimbursements and per diems for the players on road trips to "payroll". Those would elicit an obvious eye roll. -
An Updated Look At Twins Payroll
nicksaviking replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I want the Twins payroll to increase. Though I want it hoping/expecting guys like Sano, Buxton, Duffey, Berrios, May and/or others will need attractive pre-arb extensions to keep them in Minnesota through their peak years. -
I'll play amature homacidal maniac. If he did it (nod to OJ's book), I'd think he shot her in the driveway and loaded her into her Rav 4 as I believe the show said her blood was in the back. I'd think blood on a gravel or dirt driveway could easily be concealed with a shovel and a hose. Since a couple of those bones were found in a quarry, I'd guess he simply drove her there and burned/dismembered her. As to the set up: we heard the dispatch call where it sounded pretty clear that deputy dirt ball Colburn was looking at the car after she was reported missing but long before they found it, as he knew the make of the car when the dispatcher gave him the plate number. So he found the car at the quarry. He and Lenk then began the process of planting the evidence, the first of which was the car and the body. This would suggest they didn't see any kind of evidence at the quarry that would point the finger at Avery, which would further suggest that the blood was planted because why would they need to move the car and the body to frame a guy who very conspicuously left his blood near the ignition of a car a dead woman obviously couldn't drive. This would also indicate whoever drove the car was also last to have the key. Concerning the evidence that is the key, the car, the blood and the body, I don't think there is any question that either all had to have been planted, or none of it was. There's just no logical way that just the key was planted for instance. A side note, I imagine investigating a crime scene with Lenk is like looking for something with your six year old when you know he stole it. As soon as your back is turned, "Oh here it is, I found it!"

The stable and sane Republican voters will never turn out to vote for Trump. Even though I am not among them, I can still acknowledge that that is the majority of Republicans. The party wouldn't be so terrified of him if they didn't think he was unelectable. There is 70 pages of crap here and even the Republican supporters are trying to say, "No way, he's not on MY team!" I live in a Red State and have yet to meet someone who likes the guy. His supporters on TV are clearly the same folks who solely consume the drama of reality TV and haven't watched the news since they were a kid and had to sit through it with their parents because there was only one TV in the house.

Thrylos's Top 40 Twins Prospect Countdown
nicksaviking replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I didn't like the Michael pick as I wanted a half dozen HS arms instead, and that ranking seems really high. Yet I can't help but also feel that Michael looks like the kind of guy who could come out of nowhere and then we look back at his numbers the last couple years and say, oh, I get it now. I think he'll end up being a decent MLB player. Minor leaguers who can get on base so often seem to figure it out. -
A quote also heard often in the AZ front office, I would suspect. I like Arcia to come through this year if given a fair chance, however I also see a great possibility that a fair chance isn't in the cards due to the current roster. Aside from Berrios, who has yet to debut, the Twins haven't hit on a comp pick since 2004. This hasn't been a strong area of the draft for the Twins lately. Through I love the draft and would be thrilled to get more high picks.

****Spoiler. Well, probably not by now, but just in case.***** Lenk appears to be a dirtbag of the highest degree. I'd guess he planted evidence to frame Avery because he thinks Avery did it, not because Lenk did it. However his desire to play vigilante for the good of the community really is suspicious considering Avery just had him deposed because of his wrongful vigilantism the first time. Is it just me, or does anyone else have a stronger desire to see the dirty cops and prosecutors put away than actually see Avery get out?

Team relocations that sucked for all sports fans
nicksaviking replied to kab21's topic in Minnesota Vikings Talk
Not sure what was wrong with the armory, it's a pretty nice parking garage. -
If I were to guess, the cops, the DA and Dassey's own joke of a public defender all just assumed they'd just use Dassey as another piece of fabricated evidence against Avery. However by the time they realized his BS confession and extremely low IQ were more likely to help Avery, not hurt him, the scumbag DA had already broadcasted the fake confession to the world (Wisconsin World) and they had no choice but to prosecute him or else they'd have come clean about their investigative "techniques".

Yup, DD season two hasn't yet been released but the execs like Jon Berenthal's Punisher so much it's already green lit for it's own series.

The Twins' Next Hall Of Famer
nicksaviking replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it was reported as fact that Boggs requested to go in as a Devil Ray. It was also reported that he agreed to sell his hat on his plaque to Tampa, though I'm not sure that was substantiated.- 80 replies

I'm cheering for the young guys Rogers or Melotakis to get the gig, but I'm predicting it will be Abad and by the All Star break we'll be talking about an extension on this site. He was a pretty nice pitcher in 2013 and 2014. Looks like he tried to add a cutter last year at the expense of his curve. Not sure if there's any correlation but it is listed as a negative pitch.

His WAR is positive with the Twins, and if you really want to focus on his UZR it too has been positive with the Twins at SS, RF and LF. Defensively he's only been below average at 3B.
-
Seems like he gets a bad rap to me. A .754 and .721 OPS the last two years with the Twins as a utility guy? Normally we would be thrilled if our 2B or SS could do that. Have we forgotten what Twins futility players do? I really don't understand the can't hit angle for him. Not that I'm a huge fan, I just don't get all the displeasure with him, offensively he seems to be a pretty solid utility guy.

I don't think the team would have to worry a whole lot about losing top young prospects that aren't MLB ready as we might think. The expansion draft was designed for the two new teams to fill out their 40-man and 25-man. Looking at the results, almost everyone drafted made it to the majors, which suggests they were already at the MLB level or close to it. Most of these guys would have to be MLB ready because the other main way these teams filled out rosters was through the June draft. The D-Backs had 60 draft picks in 1997 and the Rays had 92! Most teams have 40-50. Obviously you're not going to fill out your 40-man with the guys picked in round 80 of the previous years draft.

I did want Mark Lowe and his 95-96 MPH heater. He only got a 2 year deal which would have been more appealing to me.

**Moderator Note** If we're going to be talking about analytics in this thread it should be contained to Antonio Bastardo or perhaps the players we may prefer in his place. I'm sure someone can dig up one of the hundreds of old Twins analytical tendency threads if this debate really needs to be rehashed. These conversations nearly always derail the topic at hand.
