  1. The NFL Network should probably follow suit and make sure that Chris Jones guy who's junk flopped out while he was running the 40 at the NFL combine didn't secretly cut a hole in his pants to show off his goods. What a bunch of BS. Too bad Andrews didn't go public with these demands right away and sue ESPN for defamation or something for even suggesting this. She could get hired anywhere.
  2. Wow, he must be feeling pressure to pick up Scalia's slack. Not a fan of the implication of his questions. In my city we just lost an officer because my state's backwoods laws allowed a guy convicted of homicide with a firearm to get his guns back after only ten years.
  3. When someone gets a radar reading on Hughes feel free to report. Velocity surely won't peak yet, but to me, seeing if Hughes' velocity rebounds from last year's troubling 89-91 is going to be an under reported but very important thing to see develop this spring.
  4. I want to see May as well, but I'm really curious how they plan on evaluating him. They said he'll get a shot at the rotation, but if he's lights out can he actually get the job? Or if he's lights out will they say he's too good to take out of the pen?
  5. Hunter had a positive UZR and positive UZR/150. Every stat showed a huge improvement over 2014. The guy was 39, he didn't magically get more athletic, it was due to the environment. Even if Sano is not good, it's not going to hurt, he's replacing another poor defender, it's not like the team is significantly downgrading the defense from something that was elite last year.
  6. Everyone was making a huge deal about Torii Hunter manning RF this time last year. Every metric said he was among the worst, if not the worst outfielder in the game in 2014, yet he was just fine last year despite having next to no range. Jim Thome could play RF at Target Field relaxing in a lawn chair, it's the size of a Manhatten efficiency.
  7. I don't know if Plouffe was shopped or not, but I'd also bet that Ryan would have said Hicks wasn't shopped right up until the final signature was placed on his trade paperwork.
  8. Someone was told to stop doing something by someone else of higher authority and he complied without public protest, complaint or indignation? Well done Mr. Jones, very classy.
  9. Thanks to Alan Alda surely.
  10. How does he not know English? All the extras on MASH at least spoke SOME English? I thought it was the national language. Was that not filmed on site in Korea?
  11. Ok so what happens if the runner doesn't over-slide the bag only because he used the 2B he intentionally took out as a backboard to slow his momentum?
  12. Not that I agree with the same kind of move today, but we also shouldn't forget that to replace Morris in 1992, McPhail traded two of his top prospects, Midre Cummings and Denny Neagle for one season of one of the NL's best pitchers the previous year, John Smiley.
  13. **** Mod note **** If this thread becomes anything other than lighthearted, the Fun Police are going to shut down the Negativity Police thread. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3tFfi4ZaizI/TqBLOfzeqvI/AAAAAAAAAO0/rJpYnhVIWBE/s1600/FunPolice2.jpg
  14. I'm also not interested in Thornton. His peripheral numbers show he was not nearly as good as his counting stats would suggest. If he can't miss bats anymore, he's not worth it. I don't like that Burdi is tinkering already. He's a fireballing reliever, those guys usually only need two pitches. He was pitching well the second half of last year. After his initial demotion he was giving up 5.4 H/9 the rest of the year, his main problem was free passes, I can't see how adding a new pitch would help with that. Why tinker unless what you're doing isn't working?
  15. If the Twins hadn't signed Park and kept Plouffe, Sano almost certainly would be looking at the DH spot. Committing him to DH at this age sounds like a worse fate than learning the OF.
  16. They made some big moves, but they still only have two good offensive players, both of whom are coming off of career years. In fact their four best offensive players are all 28 and coming off of career years. That just doesn't sound sustainable.
  17. In what scenario isn't Buxton an everyday player? If he's on the bench or platooning, something has gone very, very wrong with him, and more concerning, something has gone very, very wrong with management that they would allow the #2 prospect in the game to not get regular playing time somewhere. Sano's lack of defensive ability should have no impact on Buxton, other than the actual literal meaning of the word impact, which wasn't referenced in the post.
  18. His entire four year contract is what Nolasco is going to make each of the next two years, and I think most people, fairly or not, have already written off Nolasco as a sunk cost. There is so little risk here it seems pretty needless to even worry about it.
  19. No because Phil Hughes was worse in 2015 and the only other consistent starting contributor in both 2014 and 2015 was Kyle Gibson, a groundball pitcher. I hope you recall everyone freaking out about the Twins adding the defensive liability that was supposed to be Torii Hunter. Hunter was fine last year and played all season. I think it just goes to show you don't need great OF defense at TF because it's so small, at least RF.
  20. As bad as his bat was, the biggest issue was for some reason their scouts weren't able to tell that he didn't have either the arm or the range to play SS at the MLB level. They traded their SS in Hardy and were planning on replacing him with Nishioka who opened the season as a 2B because it was clear during spring training that he couldn't play SS. There should be some forgiveness not knowing if the bat would play at the next level, but the glove and the arm? They should have been much easier to spot. No excuses for that.
  21. That's not true though, it's not like Berrios would take the same deal if he's three years from free agency that he would if he's two years from free agency. Take the hypothetical situation where the Twins would normally have Berrios for six years + two extension years; if he's called up early, they aren't automatically going to be able to get him to do five years + three extension years instead. Also, team control for five years instead of six would make it awfully tempting to want to test the free agent market and refuse to talk extension at all.
  22. I hope an injury or awful performance from an incumbent isn't going to be what is required for him to come up. If he's pitching better than a vet(s), he should be up.
  23. Nishioka was a diva who insisted on wearing clothes provided by his apparel brand before being forced to change into Twins garb, who alienated many people in his own clubhouse and who wanted to be treated like a star even when he was performing like a minor leaguer. Am I the only one who didn't know this?
  24. That would probably be wise, but Molitor seems to say what's on his mind. This shouldn't be surprising, of course they aren't going to yo-yo their star player with defensive concerns all over the field, they'll have their hands full learning one position. Sano will get reconsidered at 3B when Plouffe is gone. Heck, he's only in RF because of the crowds at DH/3B/1B and the team is trying to wedge it's best offensive lineup together. I'd bet if Kepler or Arcia force the issue, Sano would be reconsidered at DH/3B/1B depending on which vet isn't pulling his weight. He's just not going to be what we would think of as position flexible.
  25. The show is great, my fear though is fans are going to start getting restless if the Mike part of the story isn't shown often enough. Breaking Bad was awesome and it was tense nearly the whole time. Legal dramas don't really bring that same element, but as we saw in this last episode, dealing with dangerous drug dealers does, and Mike appears set to be doing a lot of that.
