  1. Well, they did fail to hit homeruns in six of their nine at bats today......
  2. Topa was a righty, why didn't reigning AL player of the week Kirilloff pinch hit instead?
  3. If the other guys are polished, then I don't want more of that.
  4. So Wallner is my favorite OF now? That happened fast.
  5. I'd rather they were throwing pitches to the Royals too.
  6. I think it's a dumb move by SD but I get it. They made an all in push a couple of years ago, I'd guess that next year is the last year before they have to finally fold and tear it all apart. You'd think they might move these rental guys for players who can help next year and in the future, but 5.5 games back isn't a huge deficit if a team ends up getting hot, especially if they're chasing unexpected clubs like AZ, CIN, MIA and SF. AZ is already starting to fall apart, someone's going to take their spot in the playoffs for sure.
  7. He'll get more for sure, but probably the same ballpark. Prior to last year, most people saw Herbert as the better QB. Also, I'm so very jealous. We need one of those.
  8. I'm also in the crowd of not needing a relief arm, but I could see them going after Robertson. The alternate options listed I'd think are unlikely though. The last several years the Twins have quietly built a bullpen that limits walks and keeps the ball on the ground, which is surely a large reason for the late inning infield defensive replacements. I would guess they'd have next to no interest in Hand or Hicks. Especially Hicks. Maybe they'd be interested in Raley, but he is a flyball pitcher.
  9. Yup, looks like my math was wrong. 2.5 games back. Still, I don't think the Red Sox dumping a guy who has a .599 OPS has anything to do with 'selling'. Seems like he'd be a DFA candidate. He was terrible last year too.
  10. A strong BB% is one of the best indicators for a high floor. Things are going well now, but he'd be my first choice for the next opening at the MLB level. This team's success has largely been built on the strong on base skills of Kirilloff, Julien, Jeffers and Wallner. I'll take more of that.
  11. Ten K's last game against Kirby, who doesn't strike many batters out. See if the Twins can keep the Nolan Ryan comparisons to a minimum today.
  12. The Red Sox are sitting in the final playoff spot, I don't think they're throwing in the towel, just throwing out a player that's not very good any more, who for some reason has the interest of another team that is willing to help the Red Sox cut their losses. The Twins need to stay far away from this type of player. Taking a roster spot from a more deserving player just to give it to a guy who used to have some name cache seems like it wouldn't do well for clubhouse morale.
  13. ****Moderator Note**** Let's stay on topic and keep the posts from getting personal.
  14. Between Hader, Bautista and Beurhle, it's definitely worth the effort. Not at the expense of not signing a top drafted player, but certainly do it if you can.
  15. Agree. Unless there's a shockingly big trade, these guys are likely as big of a boost as any of average players they plan on trading for. Though, I think the Twins have actually played better when forced to improvise. Seems like every time a starter goes down and they have to reach into the AAA bag, they come out better than when the starter was in the lineup.
  16. So now they toss the rest of the money in a bag on the floor and tell the two HS kids who ever gets it first keeps it all?
  17. Yeah, that's what I was asking about. I mean, I'd probably want to see more recent guys, but yeah I'd take a John Smoltz obviously.
  18. No, I'm specifically wondering about the HS kids. The Twins almost always get the tougher-sign college juniors to sign; I'd guess most clubs do. The HS kids are obviously further away from the majors and I'm curious how many that have signed at these super late picks have actually panned out. Not the kids signed in rounds 11-12, those are the guys who are perceived to have a somewhat reasonable chance to sign, I mean the super late rounders. My assumption is the number is miniscule, which is why I wouldn't sweat it, but I really don't know, which is why I was asking.
  19. The Twins rarely miss the JUCO or college Juniors and all of those guys have already signed this year. It's the HS kids drafted late that's always a different animal.
  20. I mean, all things being equal, obviously I'd like to sign either of those two players. Teams rarely sign those late round HS bonus grabs, but the ones that do sign, do any of them ever work out? Serious question, I can't think of any, but obviously I don't know the draft background of every MLB player.
  21. MLBTR is reporting (yes, actually MLBTR and not a link) that Keuchel has a second opt out date, and that it happens to be the trade deadline. That specific date leaves several dark corners to explore. If he didn't opt out of the first date, he must think the second is significant. Like might the Twins actually trade one of their starters? Or do they actually trade Keuchel himself? That second seems unlikely, because why wouldn't Keuchel prefer to choose his own team via the first opt out instead of letting the Twins pick it for him?
  22. That contract could be accurate, but that bolded part is absolutely wrong. Verlander was the best free agent pitcher last year, and he was only a free agent in name because he had his mind made up to two locations by the time the season was over. Bassitt and Eovaldi were a bit younger than Gray, but similar, but there are better pitchers this off season than all of them, if Gray can't get that third year, the Twins QO pick probably comes in comp round B. Not saying Gray won't but it's certainly a possibility.
