    The line should be +14, but somehow, some way, this team always keeps it within one score. Guess I'll take the under because of this very illogical fact.

    After the 49ers game, the Vikings absolutely SHOULD win the next six, those are awful teams. But they're more likely to lose all six because with each game, this team has played softer, and softer and that's only going to get worse as the losses pile up. I suppose it's possible they get pumped up solely for the GB rivalry next week and they carry that into the following games. But even if this team runs the table in the regular season, they aren't a legit SB contender, just like they weren't last year.

    Unless there's other indoor facilities around the state I can't think of, I don't follow this discussion. St. Thomas, Duluth, St. Cloud, Mankato, Moorhead Winona, Morris, all of these college towns have outdoor facilities. All the Dakota schools built indoor facilities, but that would go over with Minnesota fans slightly better than Derek Jeter throwing out the first pitch at Target Field opening day.

    I'm Ok moving on from all of them; Gordon can't work a count and is redundant defensively. If he's getting regular playing time in CF, then the organization messed up next year's roster. Alcala has potential, but can't stay healthy and his command seems to get worse every time he comes back. And Luplow, well..... However, these are pretty minor arbitration figures all things considered, so that wouldn't be my determination for removal. My order would go Luplow - Moran - Henriquez - Gordon - Ortega - Sands - Alcala - Winder. Players beyond that I might start to put up a mild rebuttal. Obviously they'd never get rid of that many pitchers, nor should they unless there's an unexpected trade and free agency boon.

    So that leaves the team with 35 players subtracting the pending free agents and adding back the 60-day IL guys?

    Adler seems most likely to get the GM job should Levine leave, but I'd be interested in an outside hire as well. The biggest problem with the prior front office structure was how insular it was. They almost always hired from within and never brought in new perspective. Even when they did venture from their gene pool, they still brought in similar DNA. It's why the franchise was so stale and couldn't adapt to modern baseball. I guess if they do hire from within, at least fill that person's spot with a fresh new voice.

    TK isn't going to get much consideration as his career winning percentage is below .500 and he had 8 consecutive years of losing teams. Not his fault, the payroll and roster building were atrocious after Andy McPhail got hired away. Kelly is my favorite manager of all time, but the national guys will pick the guys who won more and managed longer. Leland and Piniella seem like the two most obvious choices, but those were two of MLB's most surely personalities, and HOF committee voters sometimes make these choices personal if they'd previously been rubbed the wrong way.

    Yup, the Cardinals are going to chase pitching and they are the closest city to his hometown outside of Atlanta, who is probably also in the market for pitching. Most guys who say 'it's not about the money' and actually mean it, tend to head back to their neck of the woods. Or at least their wives' neck of the woods. Not saying the Twins can't or won't re-sign him, but any thoughts of discounts to stay here is probably just daydreaming.

    Or he gets bored of a city every few years so he pulls up the tent, grabs his bindle and rides the rails to a new destination.

    That sounds too good to be true as a Twins fan. I have to think both he and his agent know he'll have guaranteed three year offers from plenty of other clubs, which means he can and should ask for five and eventually settle for four.

    I suspect any supply/demand issues regarding the shortstop market are only going to lead to minimal increase in return. I mean the Twins got him for a guy who wasn't even in their top 30 prospects. Even if the Twins now got some team's top 20-30 prospect, or a no-name reliever, would anyone care? I'm all for trading him, but in the offseason, I'd guess they wouldn't get anything of value for him unless he's part of a package. Add Farmer to a higher profile trade to bump up the return. That's the avenue I'd explore. Or wait until next year when Lee or Martin are ready to take his spot on the roster and see if a team is desperate due to injuries. Also, I do NOT want Michael Taylor back next year. Hanging on to Farmer seems like a way to free up Castro for part time CF duty which would make it more likely Taylor won't be back.

    Ain't signing here then. Minnesota law doesn't allow any single individual to own the entirety of a lakeshore.

    Doesn't bother me if the Twins brought him back, I'd be happy to see him. Just seems what he said about the A's owner would be a particularly sensitive subject for the Pohlad family. So it would be an applaudable move if they did hire him, as they'd basically be confronting their family's darkest moment. (I mean other than the time Carl built the family fortune by foreclosing on starving families the second a payment was past due during the depression)

    Falvey already declined to interview with Boston.

    Right, but broadcasters are employed by the teams, so it would be quite something if the Twins or any team hired him after he spoke out about one of their own.

    That would say a lot about the Twins if they did. Surely May knew he was going to be blacklisted after napalming a member of the Billionaire Boys Club for trying to do exactly what Carl Pohlad failed to do 20 some years ago.

    The depth for the starting rotation was great this year, but the 'depth' for the bats hurt the team this year. The Farmer/Solano/Taylor/Castro/Gallo/Vazquez crowd keeps the Julien/Wallner/Kirilloff/Jeffers crowd off of the field. The obvious difference is that adding depth like Lopez or Gray to the top of the rotation is like adding Carlos Correa to the lineup. While adding depth like Gallo or Taylor is like adding Bundy or Shoemaker to the back of the rotation. If they want offensive depth that will inevitably block the better talent, add it to the top part of the lineup, not the back of the lineup or the bench.

    Nice work on this. Obviously trades for our own young players will always be controversial. I'm with others, I'd trade Jeffers, but they better already have Garver or another offensively competent option ready to go. I don't want to promise an offensive black hole when the catcher is up all season. I'd move Castro as well, but not if it means bringing Michael Taylor back. His strikeouts were an underrated problem this year; can't bring him back if Buxton, Julien and Wallner are also starting. But I agree, Castro is likely to regress, if a utility player is at peak value, move him. I'd be happy to go back to the Reds, but I don't like Ashcroft and I'd bet the front office wouldn't either. This rotation is now, unbelievably, made up of strikeout artists. I think getting a pitch-to-contact groundball arm would be a poor fit at this time. As for Larnach, it's not like I've given up on him, but there are a half dozen young players I'd now rather see. Completely agree with moving him in a package deal.

    I mean, he can say what he wants about it not being about the money, but if the Twins are trying to get a 40% discount on his services, it's not the Twins decision, it's Sonny's. And he'd obviously decide no.

    I could totally see both sides working something out in their exclusive negotiation window, but I'm going to say walk, simply because lately, the organization has preferred to see how the market plays out before committing to big contracts. If Sonny truly isn't chasing top dollar, he'll probably be one of the first top end free agents to sign.

    Yes, though we here on TD often don't differentiate between the two, I always assumed Levine was still more or less a traditional GM who handled contracts and identified free agents and trade targets, while Falvey was the architect in charge of modernizing and overhauling the entirety of the baseball operations. Certainly there's tons of collaboration, but there are still some defined job responsibilities, even if we fans aren't explicitly privy to them.

    Whether or not you agree with what the poster is saying regarding the value of a strikeout, I think you're missing the reasoning for the strikeouts. It's not because the Twins are swinging and missing a ton, it's because they AREN'T swinging and there is a distinction. Julien and Wallner both see over 4 pitches per plate appearance, which is a lot. The goal isn't to get a good read on the pitcher so much as it is to make the pitcher throw more pitches and get him out of the game. So the strikeout itself doesn't have value, but the method does. I don't feel it provides enough value currently, but if they keep the method while either reducing the current players' strikeouts, or find players who can do so, then there is a lot of value in having a lineup that makes the opposing pitchers work more inefficiently than the other teams do.

    To get more at bats for Vazquez? That wouldn't interest me at all. I'd only be interested in finding extra spots for Jeffers to play if Camargo or Cossetti are crushing it and ready for a promotion. And from the sounds of it, Camargo would likely be the one playing a secondary position.

    A return to form for Miranda would be bigger than just about any free agent addition. His ability to limit strikeouts was sorely missed last year and would be a big help next.
