    I just struggle to understand why people think the last two months from a 30-year-old OF are more indicative of his future play than the rest of his prior eight years. This was a lotto ticket situation the Twins pulled out of their butt; cash it in before it’s worth nothing. We’re talking about getting pitching or prospects back (get pitching) PLUS $10M in additional free agent funds. Odds are that a Justin Turner or Rhys Hoskins in addition to whatever equity you get back in the trade is almost certainly going to yield better results short term and long term. If the team can get value from him now, I’d move him even if the payroll was $200M. Though full disclosure: my sentimentality level in pro sports is at an all time low, I only care about a championship. Long time players currently have zero pull on my heartstrings. Ship them in, ship them out. I know that’s pretty cold. I didn’t used to feel that way and understand that others do.

    That package for Williams would be close to what you need for a top starter. And doing this would mean replacing Sonny Gray with Varland, which is a HUGE step back for the rotation.

    The Twins have never, and likely will never, sign a top end free agent starter. They’ll have to trade for one. Also, top relievers will be only minimally less expensive. And if you’re not trading for a top reliever, than you’re just playing Russian roulette, because non-elite relievers are as reliable as a Magic 8-Ball. Finally, unless “stabilizing” the opponent means unpredictably being injured or an offensive meltdown followed by a hot stretch about a week before they would have been DFA’d, I don’t think we’re talking about Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler.

    I would be thrilled to get one of Seattle's starters. I go back and forth on how to rank them, but would likely be willing to pay the price for any.

    As fun as Glasnow sounds, I don't think I'd pay the price for one season of a 30-year-old who's never started more than 21 games in a season. Seems like a textbook 'buyer beware' situation not to mention a textbook 'Tampa pulled another fast one' situation. No for me on Margot, this team needs offensive upgrades. I also don't want Ramirez. TB seems to do well unlocking something with these journeymen hitters, but I don't think it tends to stick once they leave TB. I could maybe be talked into Arozarena, he takes a lot of pitches (like the Twins like these days) and he draws a ton of walks which seems to be a very transferable skill team-to-team. Mostly, he's been pretty consistent three years running now. .

    This sounds reasonable, assuming E-Rod never records an out during spring training and has a 1.000 batting average. Otherwise this sounds minimally more ridiculous than him staring the season as the opening day CF in St. Paul. Nobody skips Wichita. Players are lucky if they don't have to stay there a full calendar year no matter how well they hit. But heck, if he's raking and is the story of spring training, I'd be more than happy to indulge in the conversation.

    Yeah, this one could come back and bite MLB in the butt. The NFL, NHL and NBA play games in the early spring, fall and winter, you know, when people LIKE to go to Vegas. And unlike the NFL and NBA, MLB is not a big sports book draw. After a few years of curiosity for being new, that stadium is going to be as empty as Oakland and Tampa. And the A's won't even own this property? Isn't the land owned by one party, and leased by Bally's who in turn are subleasing to the A's? Fifteen or so years from now at a point when a tourism boom crosses path with a real estate boom, the A's will be playing in Nashville, Charlotte, Portland or some other new city and the brand new stadium will be razed for a new casino. What a freakin' waste, and that's even without getting into the travesty crapped down upon the undeserving fans in Oakland. In addition to being just the worst human beings, these billionaires are so myopic, only seeing immediate profits and not caring about what happens down the road.

    If the Twins got Alonso for a rookie league player who had a !!.629!! OPS last year and a guy every team will pass on in the Rule 5 draft, the rest of the league will hold a hearing on collusion. The Mets would basically just be doing a salary dump Raya is the only prospect mentioned that I'd have any hesitation about moving, but St. Louis has been the only active team in free agency thus far, they aren't trading Goldschmidt, they're trying to make a run next year. Just like every year.

    I would be interested at a reasonable price, but I suspect the trade speculation around Cortes is coming more from pundits than the Yankee front office. Clark Schmidt's move to the rotation didn't go as well as planned, and Michael King is already 28 and has pretty much been a swing man his entire career. That team has a history of sticking with their inconsistent and injury prone starters like Severino, German and Taillon through the end of their contracts. Even if the Yankees did land a top free agent, Cortes still probably has more potential than Schmidt, King and even Rodon; I just don't see them dealing from the middle of their rotation over the back of their rotation. Or likely from their rotation at all, I think King and/or Schmidt heading back to the pen is more likely. They did deal Jordan Montgomery in 2022, but at that time they actually DID have a mid-season rotation crunch. Their rotation wasn't good last year though and I don't see a similar crunch now.

    I think Cousins gets a multi year deal one way or another. Maybe he doesn't get the guaranteed money he's accustomed to, but I think he gets two years minimum, probably three. And likely way more guaranteed money than Dobbs, unless Dobbs somehow takes this team to the NFC championship game or deeper. And with the two QBs so vastly different, I wonder if you need to tailor the offense differently. If they do plan on drafting a QB for the future who would sit for a year or half a year, do they sign a vet that best fits the future QBs offensive skills? I'm really not sure, they seemed to adjust on the fly OK this year, though it's doubtful they could adjust on the fly as well with a rookie QB.

    For a pitcher I'm pretty weary of vaguely announced shoulder injuries. I'd be interested, and no players listed so far would discourage me from trading for him. But I'd also want another pitcher that is more likely to settle into the #2 spot of the rotation.

    Yet Dobbs' mobility shows why that aspect of the game is so important. If nothing else, hopefully he's made the team set their sites on someone with that trait in the upcoming draft. Which is loaded with QB's with that trait.

    I’d firstly be looking to package him plus a good prospect(s) to get back starting pitching. The Marlins, Mariners and Brewers may be very interested. If not, I’d wait and reevaluate to see what’s happening with the very few free agents I’m interested in.

    Who's getting a seven year deal? Ohtani and Yamamoto? I've seen one projection of Hoskins getting a three year deal and the others all at one or two. We're talking about a first baseman with 15 career stolen bases, having two ACLs is probably like having two tonsils. Me and Mickey Mantle have been trying to think of baseball players who couldn't come back from an ACL tear and we're coming up blank. You used to just play without them, but now they get professionally fixed any you're ready to roll after only 6-9 months of recovery.

    #1, may help with #2 if the rest of the league is weary. And I'm not afraid of a year old ACL surgery for an offensive player, especially a first baseman. The Twins have seen several hitters come out the other side with flying colors, so I'd think if any team is less weary, it'd be the Twins.

    Funny. And even while Davis' career did overlap with both Washington and Hunter, none of them actually played together. Not on the Twins nor any other MLB team.

    I'm wondering if the Chargers and Commanders are in the same boat. The HC was bound to get fired but the team hired an OC that would replace him the following season.

    Probably inevitable now. Seems like players rarely return from a concussion the following week anymore.

    Yeah, I thought punting it out of bounds was a given. Why give a chance for a return? Made no sense. Also, teams like to draft kickers, but I think a top tier punter is way more valuable. I watch some teams and they seem to always drop it inside the ten with no return all the time..

    Also, who are they going to bring in at RB? Myles Gaskin coming back? Boring. I'd almost rather see 50-year-old Adrian Peterson just for the entertainment of it all. Five carries for four yards would still be a fun story to tell.

    Crazy season. This team is at six wins with the Broncos, Bears, Raiders, Bengals, Lions, Packers and Lions left. Any one of those games they could lose I suppose, but at the same time, it looks next to impossible not to get to at least nine wins, and nobody outside of the Lions look terribly lopsided at the moment. And all this with the team missing it's first three QBs, best RB and opening day RB now out, and the both of the opening day staring WRs out.

    I assume this was the 4 and inches early in the 3rd quarter? Yeah, keep the pedal to the metal. KOC has been way better lately, but he still isn't going for the killshots. Run up the score, not because you're bragging, but because this stuff happens regularly in the NFL when the other team has actual capable QBs.

    I wanted to play the game before digging for research, and I right away thought it was Ward. Also, the jersey number is clearly a red herring, no Twin wore #50 in the regular season between between 1980 and 1989 and no Twins hitter EVER wore #50 until Matt Lawton in 1995. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/uniform-numbers.shtml It's not power blue, so that's a home uniform and that's definitely not the 1982 Metrodome. Plenty of t-shirts in the stands though so spring training seems like it's a certainty. Maybe it was an old stock photo from four years prior when Ward had yet to make the team. Plus as others have said, you don't put your utility infielder on the pocket schedule. Weird thing is, looking for this online, I found a *nearly* identical one on ebay: Ha, but this one was sponsored by True Value instead of Miller High Life. I suppose a beer sponsor may have been objectionable in some locations. Or maybe they didn't want to pour too much support to the sponsors of the border state rivals.

    I loathed the Garver trade for a week. I couldn't have possibly disliked Kiner-Falafa more, they had JUST ended the Andrelton Simmons experiment and you'd think they'd have known not to go back to that well. But by the time they cleared Donaldson's salary and signed Correa, I loved it. However, I'm still not convinced they knew they'd be able to pull that off, or had even considered it when they traded Garver. So hard to give too many pats on the back, but whether it was skillful or just serendipity, it worked out well.
