    Yeah, I don't want to get all negative, because I'm really not, but if Martin hadn't been a 1st round pick or traded for Berrios, we'd probably be putting him in the same group as Helman, Kiersey and Prato. All of whom I'm still looking forward to seeing at some point. Certainly these aren't dead-end prospects, the Twins found Dozier and Arraez from this kind of tier.

    Yeah, it's still a poor division, I'm not worried, I'd rather it be a different player than Lewis missing time, but this team should have always had a post open for a rookie anyway; way too many are getting cornered out in St. Paul. I wouldn't say it's a silver lining, but maybe a nickel lining.

    I'm looking forward to seeing him, but I think the expectations for Martin are getting a bit lofty. Julien's MiLB OBP was !.437! and he hit more HR in 109 games at the majors last year than Martin has in his entire minor league career. I really don't think these are similar kinds of prospects.

    Kind of think Pierson Ohl deserved a rotation spot over Boushley. Is Ohl injured? Also surprised Willie Joe Garry didn't get an outfield spot. He hung around camp a long time this spring and can play CF, Yoyner Fajardo doesn't seem to be as good of a defender, and Will Holland hasn't shown anything with his bat at any level. Not sure how Holland surpassed Seth Gray either.

    Hope for the first option, but neither are going to cripple the season.

    I have no read on this front office, but if they don't already have a wink-wink deal in place to trade up, after trading for another 1st round pick two months prior to the draft, it just seems like they don't actually have a game plan. Just such a bizarre move at that point in the off season otherwise. No team does that. Pick #23 is usually a trade DOWN spot. Makes no sense unless they already know it can be packaged. But while I've liked the free agency period this year, there's already been a bunch of 'makes no sense' moves from this group so as much as I want to, I guess I can't assume they already have a deal in place. But I think they do.

    Agree with the pitchers. Science has almost certainly pushed biology to it's limits, because that's what teams are tying to get out of their pitchers. Also agree that hitters aren't pushing harder now than they used to; I mean we actually used to have a laughable debate about the merits of sliding headfirst into first base. However, I don't think hitters are more injury prone now than they used to be. I'm sure someone can dig up data that I don't have, but hitters have always been hurt, that's why Cal Ripken's journey was such an incredible event. Hitters DID use to play through injuries more often, but that was just dumb. Those guys always played way under their normal productivity. The better move would have been to heal them so they can perform to their ceiling later and have a bench player man the spot in meantime. That's pretty standard now, but injured players rarely play well, back then, they simply had too much pride not to play. Plus, teams ran like 10 man pitching staffs, there was way less incentive to put guys on the DL (dated reference) since the bench bats ran about six deep.

    His walk rate vanishes? Even when Julien isn't hitting left handers in the minors, he's still getting on base at a top end clip. His professional at bats and OBP alone should keep him on the field to try to improve the hitting. We should drool over an OBP that good against same-handed pitching.

    I want to see Martin get a shot, just like I want to see most of the young guys get a shot. However, and I know this isn't a popular opinion, Martin has been around long enough that I think his pedigree is next to meaningless. He doesn't play a premium position unless they give him a shot in CF again, and he is a slap hitter. I want to see him, but I just think his ceiling is so low. Best case scenario seems like Luis Castillo but if you get much less than that and you're a replacement player because the margin for error is so small with only singles and walks to fall back on.

    I'm not sure about defensively, but Farmer is gone after this year for sure and Castro showed promise offensively, particularly with his increased ability to draw walks. If I had to give one of them more at bats, I'd give them to Castro on the off chance he can pivot into another Eduardo Escobar.

    With Canterino now on the 60-day IL, there's an open spot on the 40-man. I don't think it's Prato, but I also don't know that it's Martin. Prato did play every position except CF and C last year, so he's more versatile if that's what they're looking for. But since the team was stuck using Margot at DH on opening day, my guess is that it's Miranda or Camargo, who seem like better fits to dabble in that simple role. They also gave Helman a lot of opportunities in spring, I could see him too.

    If it's a low grade strain that should be maybe two weeks (no maybe, play it safe), if it's high grade it could be more than a month. In my HS track days I tore my quad and was out two months, but the whole muscle was on fire and it locked up and it definitely didn't feel like a light tug and I couldn't have casually jogged 90 feet to 3B. Obviously we're talking professional athlete versus soon-to-be-kegstand-champion, but we've seen plenty of guys pull a quad, hamstring or calf muscle rounding the bases and go down like they were shot. I mean last year he played with a pulled hamstring in the playoffs. He missed two weeks, but they said he could have played earlier if the team didn't already have a handle on the division. If he comes back in a couple weeks than DHs for another week or so, that would work for me too.

    "At least it's not the knee." That's all I needed to hear. Feels like a cramp, he says. Surely it's a pulled muscle, sucks but shouldn't be long term.

    If he could be a fine option for a 2nd catcher (and Vazquez shows to be a usable catcher again), the Twins could find an excellent path to freeing up salary to get more help midseason.

    Maybe it's preventable if they practice in Minnesota in February and March instead of Florida. Going from the cold to heat causes cramps, going from heat to the cold causes muscle strains. I don't think it's avoidable with stretching.

    Shulda pinch hit for him. Holy cow, just looked at the Washington roster. Gallo's batting 5th? Wow that is a really bad lineup. Their #3 and #7 hitters were MiLB deals with spring training invites. I feel like I need to reiterate that their #3 hitter was signed to a non-roster contract, if I say it again, will it make more sense? That's weird right?

    If Canterino is going on the 60 day, that opens up the job to anyone in the system. I'd still bet on Miranda or Camargo, but O'Keefe and Prato were among the last cuts. I'd put Helman in that group but he barely played the infield last year, and I don't think it's an OF they add. But maybe if Castro gets more 3B reps than Farmer. I'd really only want to add another catcher if it's an audition for the long term backup gig, but O'Keefe is the most cuttable if Lewis is expected to return soon.

    Severino and Martin both probably have a ton to prove still. I'd guess none of these guys play 3B though; Farmer and Castro probably get the gig in all scenarios. Edit: Also, it looks like Martin hasn't played 3B since college. He might not have the arm for it.

    Penix still isn't my guy, but he did run a 4.53 40 in his pro day. Obviously that's not elite, but it's still really good. Better than Nix, an waaaaay better than Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence and Justin Herbert. Guys like Teddy Bridgewater, Baker Mayfield and Tua Tagovailoa can also move, but refuse to, but there's a difference between being a statue in the pocket by choice or by ability. If he's open to picking up some 1st downs with his legs when the need arises, I'm open to him being on the Vikings.
