  1. This is shockingly out of character for Guardians ownership to approve these contracts. That said, I don't think there is anything spiteful in what they did. I think they made a baseball decision with a last gasp effort to win the division.
  2. Well, in my son's Road to the Show career, the Twins signed Ohtani in FA after the 2023 season. So...maybe there's a chance? 😬🤞
  3. Red Sox and Dbacks are tied with the Twins. I'm not sure how that would work, but wins & losses today might break that anyway. Marlins are out of it. That leaves the Reds as the lone team that is ahead of the Twins as of right now. And this isn't fantasy baseball. No team is putting in a claim just to spite those teams in contention. I would be shocked, absolutely flabbergasted, if any non-contending team (other than the Marlins) claimed any of the players that come with an expiring contract.
  4. Do you expect non-playoff contenders to claim any of these players? If not, the Twins are in a prime position to claim pretty much whoever they want due to their record. Only the Reds have a worse record of all current contenders.
  5. This really isn't necessary. It's highly likely only playoff contenders will be claiming any of these players. Because of the Twins's record, the team will be one of the highest priority teams on the list, possibly the second highest after the Reds. With that level of priority, the Twins should be able to get almost anyone they want from the wire.
  6. Rest, if not IL: Duran Jax Ober Maeda Correa They kicked it off with Ober. Hopefully there will be more.
  7. Count me among the small, but vocal, minority of Twins fans that are far more frustrated with the Coulombe trade than the Mahle trade.
  8. Two outs and bases clear, it's a brilliant move. On the season, Gallo has a 135 OPS+ with the bases empty. With runners on it's like a 70. (Oddly, when those runners on base are in scoring position, it jumps back up to 130. This shape of production is consistent with his career too.)
  9. Agreed. I'd probably put Duran at #1, then Julien/Kirilloff/Lewis/Wallner in any order at 2-5 due to their ability to perform at the MLB level. Lee then goes to 6. Unproven vs guys who are all OPSing over .800 in The Show? Yes, please, to the guys performing at a high-level in The Show. Lee may be #1 in this exercise a year from now, but not as of 8.16.2023.
  10. I guess I'll hope for a quote option when I highlight in the future. In case it matters, what browser are you using?
  11. That's a fair take. I would throw Martin in the future RHH OF bin. If Lewis does go to the OF and it's not as a full-time LF, that might provide more value. Unlike most of our TD dreaming discussions on the future, this one is more imminent and could be the reality as soon as opening day 2024. It's a very fun discussion to have.
  12. How did you quote the OP? I know you can make a quote box, but I've never seen the OP quoted the way you did it.
  13. By the BaseRuns metric, Fangraphs ranks the Twins as the 7th best team in MLB. Hardly bad.
  14. Just as with Julien playing 2B, I am not aware of the team having given a timeline regarding their positional statements. But just as a hypothetical, if Lewis can be a good defensive 2B and Julien can be an average LF (the bar for LF defense is very low), I'd prefer that to Lewis being a good LF and Julien a below-average 2B.
  15. I'm not disuting his value as a 2B. My point is that he might provide even more value eslewhere. I'm not opposed to him being a DH, I'd just rather find a place in the field he can provide average-ish defense if possible. Maybe he can do that at 2B. But even so, I have no doubt Lewis and Lee would both be better defenders at 2B. For right now, there is no rush to move him off 2B, but he may be forced off the position by this time next year. I hope he is. That means both Lewis and Lee are crushing it. It's a good "problem" to have.
  16. Taking SS (Correa) and DH (to keep it roving) out of play, let's discuss. The Twins have stated Lewis will not play the OF. That leaves 3B, 2B, or 1B. Seems like a waste of athleticism to put him at 1B, so let's limit it to 3B/2B. The Twins have stated Julien will play 2B and that is all. That leaves Lewis with 3B. Does Lee go to 1B then? I doubt he moves to the OF. Maybe a 4 player rotation of Lewis, Lee, Julien, and Correa at SS/2B/3B? That could work to keep them all healthy and the way the team has used Lee at AAA would indicate this is a possibility. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. After Lewis's injury in the OF, I find it more likely that Julien moves to the OF than Lewis.
  17. I am consistently surprised by Twins fans and followers by the opinion of Polanco's defense at 2B. Polanco has been a bad defender his entire MLB career at his primary position. Julien is a lateral move. There is no reason to bump Julien from 2B right now, but there is no impetus to keep him there either...unless it is to keep his bat in the lineup without using the DH spot. Polanco is a lateral move at 2B. As @Trov stated, unless a big turnaround takes place on defense before the end of the 2023 season, Julien's best value long-term likely comes at a different defensive position. My guess is as a LF/1B. Once we have Lee & Lewis up, both of whom profile as capable of playing SS at the MLB level, it would seem ignorant to keep Lewis at 2B...though we know how much this management team likes to feign ignorance and dig in their heels on something that is not working optimally.
  18. At 6'2" and a 65th percentile sprint speed, plus decently strong arm with the caveat of a 60 foot throw that looks like it might not cut it at 2B on a Town Ball club (he looks like he has the yips on short throws), I think his 1a position would be LF and his 1b position would be 1B. He legitimately looks like one of the most awkward, unathletic 2B I have ever seen play at the MLB level. And if (when🤞) we have the situation of Lewis, Lee, and Julien vying for regular playing time a year from now, I can't imagine keeping Julien at 2B over one of those two, but I also don't want to relegate Julien, or any player, to full-time DH.
  19. Because you believe that is the best decision for ther team? Or you think that is what the team believes is the best decision for the team?
  20. Or just move Julien to 1B. I don't know if his long-term future is at 1B, but I do know it isn't at 2B.
  21. He might be the fifth best healthy SP in the org at this moment. I'd take him over Keuchel and he has certainly outperformed Varland at AAA over the past two months. His first 15 starts was a fantastic debut, with a FIP around 3.60. We've never seen him healthy and starting at the MLB level since. I'd love to see the team give him another shot.
  22. I'd also say they are morely likely to play the Rays than the Yankees. The Rays pitching staff has been decimated thru the season, with the biggest blow just being dealt to them last week. They are bullpening 2 out of every 5 games right now, though Bradley is starting tomorrow so it will only be 1 of 5. The list should probably include: Rays Blue Jays Mariners Astros Rangers Red Sox That's six teams the Twins are more likely to open the playoffs against than the Yankees. The Yankees get enough unearned digital ink already. We don't need to contribute to that.
