  1. For me it's disappointment, not angst. I didn't expect Correa back. Is there a better use of all the "financial flexibility," constantly endorsed here? It's pretty clear this FO won't commit years or $$ to pitching (happy to eat those words if Rodon signs,) and the position player group is nearly all pre arb or on team friendly deals. Surplus savings aren't applied to later seasons; missing out on Correa isn't a cause for celebration.
  2. The fact that the higher AAV is being touted when they came up well short is what's cringey, not the fact that he's no longer a member of the Twins.
  3. Yep, you nailed it with the "plausible deniability," comment the other day. Also, it's cringey that we're talking about the Twins offering a higher AAV when they're short three years and $65M.
  4. I read that tweet as "the Twins will pursue one or the other," not that they're destined to sign one of the two, which is basically a giant nothing burger. Nobody needs to be informed that MN isn't signing both players.
  5. Neither was Buxton, but that's beside the point right? Just like Judge, those two had a preferred destination and turned down more lucrative opportunities. We're irked about a hypothetical because it's the Yankees, but whatever.
  6. Yeah I think at least 4-5 pitching acquisitions over the last few years would all slot above the aforementioned position players if we're taking about true risk.
  7. Was it complete crap when Mauer, or more recently Buxton, eschewed FA and left money on the table to stay in MN? If Rodon signs with NY for less, and the Twins are one of the teams that bested their offer, then sure, throw a pity party and run with the "NY discount," theory, but until that happens there isn't anything unusual with how FA has played out for them.
  8. Can we really call it a discount if the highest bid wins? I'll feel bad for the Twins if/when they come with receipts and show they submitted the best offer and were told "no thanks."
  9. I guess we'll see, but it'd be shocking if the baseball world was totally wrong and Correa signed for sub $300M with the Twins being $25M+ above any other interested party.
  10. What's more likely, the Twins are bidding against themselves and Boras (and the baseball world) has been playing them this entire time, or MN isn't alone in committing the type of money reported, i.e. they aren't setting the market?
  11. You think the Twins are artificially raising the ceiling on Correa!?
  12. Likely very small, to the point it's almost nonexistent. It's pretty clear Vasquez doesn't want to be in a relatively even timeshare, and that's the approach the Twins have steered towards. Money, years, and in this case playing time rule the day. If Miami decided to grant him all three wishes he'd be a Marlin today. That's how this works.
  13. Died seeing the Sox & The Alliance of Magicians comp. Chef's kiss.
  14. Yeah I wouldn't take much comfort in Bogaerts or any of the top SS names coming off the market, particularly with other clubs circling and Twins' recent penchant for the "wait and see," approach.
  15. The Sox did the same thing last year and I'm sure SF was grateful. Obviously it's not apples to apples with the term lengths being thrown around, but I wouldn't read too much into SF not jumping into the bidding war.
  16. Of course. Idk he headlines a deal for anybody of that caliber either.
  17. Yeah even then I'd feel much better about the swap as a Twins fan, which tells me the deal isn't all that even. FWIW I don't value Ober nearly as much as some here do.
  18. I'd phrase it as "Is Luis Arraez worth a frontline SP," and not vice versa. If I'm a Brewers fan I wouldn't be thrilled about giving up an elite arm for Arraez. I really enjoy watching the guy play, but his limited defensive ability + health issues are well documented.
  19. Absolutely love the cream alternate. It's clean, classy, and the all white TC cap fits perfectly. Nice work. The pinstripes for the road unis are cool. Roads are never that flashy but I like these. The Navy alternates are ok. I'm not a huge fan of the lettering but whatever. I didn't realize how large the script on the white tops was when I saw the leaks. Honestly, it's a little much for me. The blue numbering to offset the red script is nice though. I wish they would've gone back to the original sized TC on the caps, it looks like they kept the enlarged version they introduced alongside Kasota Gold. I hate the M caps. The north star (I'm assuming that's what it is) feels so out of place that it ruins any shot at this being a decent cap.
  20. Yep, the dude pretty much eroded any positivity the fanbase had for him over the last 3 years. He played an ugly brand of baseball in the field and at the plate by the end. I don't begrudge anybody for getting tired of watching it, I know I did.
  21. They limited his innings but he was shelved due to a hip injury (which likely is related to the groin issues he had all of this season) not workload.
  22. Yeah, if shorts starts weren't "the plan," they were at the very least an obvious aftereffect of roster construction and organizational philosophy. Honestly, if the FO wasn't planning on short starts it's probably more of an indictment than simply failing to build a bullpen and develop young arms capable of easing the innings burden.
  23. Totally on board......with a number of years and AAV we feel provides great value. What team isn't interested within those parameters?
  24. He does throw the fastball "more and more," it's his only plus pitch, he throws it 60% of the time, and that usage isn't a secret. Pushing Ryan to develop at least one other respectable off speed pitch isn't about fixing what isn't broken, or forcing him away from using his FB; it's about trying to raise his ceiling from fringy back end guy to solid middle of the rotation guy. Better teams were quick to make the adjustment this year; Ryan's numbers against playoff teams were awful.
