  1. I think most teams need two back-up infielders. I don't understand this either/or debate. The problem for the Twins is that they carry too many relievers.
  2. Think we'll see Tonkin? If not, I assume he's done as a Twin.
  3. He's been bad lately, but it's on Molitor who left him in for 2+ innings/40+ pitches.
  4. I doubt it, unless they're pending minor league free agents where they don't really have to worry about option years. But I'm basing that on the past 20 years under a different regime. I'd think Goodrum, Recker, and those types of 26th-man players could be added since they're only like to the be back next year on new MiLB free agent deals.
  5. I'd just like to comment on how ugly those red, white and blue Kernels uniforms are. Nice article.
  6. No idea, but he clearly has issues to work out and Perkins and Rogers already has mop-up mode claimed.
  7. I know it would only be a week, but does Duffey have options?
  8. I generally agree, but I think the length of an MLB schedule allows for more of this kind of stuff. In a 16 game schedule, not so much. Keep it under 10% of games and it's fun. It's a fine line.
  9. Carlos Santana is only 32? It feels like he's been around forever.
  10. Does the GM or President of Operations control this? It seems more like a CFO or St. Peter kind of role. Either way, it's always an interesting discussion.
  11. it's what i love about this sport
  12. I'm not sure it's fair to state that BS stats can be compared specifically to if Kintzler were here. BS can be given to any reliever. SV only goes to the one to finish the game.
  13. I'm surprised Kepler only has 4 SB. I think of him as a 15 per year kind of guy, speed-wise. I guess that's the game in this era.
  14. I just don't think it's realistic. I'd love him at his current salary to be a 1B/3B/DH type player if/when Gordon and Lewis develop, but I just don't see a fit with his current age, likely free agent cost, etc. Depth is good though. Keep him through the contract and make the kids earn their promotions. Meanwhile, if they get an offer they can't refuse, take it seriously.
  15. Good luck to all these players, but none of them have me excited. Maybe there are some role players in the bunch.
  16. Not to defend Souhan in any way. In fact, I refuse to click over to the article because I despise his work so much I don't want to direct web traffic to it. But for the record I'd like to point out that he's a columnist, not a reporter. Big distinction. His job is to write opinion pieces. And with columnists, the more inflammatory they get, the better for traffic.
  17. If the STrib had a nickel for every time Souhan said something controversial (and often in poor taste)...
  18. Though Morneau isn't retired either.
  19. I'd also credit health this year (outside of pitching). Grossman, Buxton, and Mauer are the only regulars I can think of to go on the DL. The latter 2 were basically out for the minimum.
  20. I have a lot of complaints about Molitor, but it was the second game of a double header and 1/3 of their bench plays OF.
  21. Congrats to Perk. Curious why they didn't wait a day, since they'll likely need bullpen arms tomorrow and he can't pitch back to back games.
  22. These types of comments are usually settled quietly. Kinsler will probably get an "undisclosed fine" and everyone will move on.
  23. This is an aside from the baseball talk, but censorship is when a government restricts individual rights. An employer-employee relationship is a different scenario. This has nothing to do with the constitution or being "American."
  24. As long as it doesn't come together just before his arbitration years end.
