  1. Disdain isn't the right word. Just why use such a term? Ranking outfielders by stats doesn't make sense. RF, LF, and CF are different positions. It feels like a term that's isolated to a database instead of on the field. That has some value...but it's definitely abstract.
  2. "Third outfielder" lol at some of these terms being thrown out these days.
  3. Agreed. I think for a Dozier caliber player you'd have to package top prospects to get a true #1-2 pitcher. Otherwise you're rolling the dice in another Span-Meyer style move. With Berrios, Jay, Gonsalves, Thorp, and more in the system now I'm not sure that's a risk worth taking.
  4. How quickly we forgot how bad the offense was for those first 75 games this season. Though Dozier was part of that, obviously. I'm not convinced offense is an area of strength.
  5. As long as he's cheap and willing to accept a demotion from the closer role, absolutely.
  6. August trades don't yield enough to trade legit starters. Don't even consider it 'til the offseason, other than maybe getting talks started.
  7. He can fight for that 200 AB/year 24th or 25th man role. If he doesn't make: so long and thank you, good luck on the waiver wire. Here's sort of a Shane Robinson position, but leaning offensively instead of defensively.
  8. They're, what, second in line?
  9. I don't think teams get to negotiate with waiver claims before they happen.
  10. Lots of doctors on this board.
  11. I'm open to 4 years of Ramos. Year 4 won't get it's cost value, but no FA contract does.
  12. I'd like to see if Suzuki can throw out one base stealer the rest of this season before I consider resigning him.
  13. I don't care who takes him. He's dead weight on this team and they may as well see Centeno and Murphy play more (even if Murphy hasn't "earned it").
  14. Send Suzuki to CLE for a PTBNL
  15. First they do through revocable waivers and if they pass it's free game. Then if placed on irrevocable waivers after, have to be traded to the claiming team. Is that right?
  16. The only thing a non-deadline trade of Suzuki means is that his value is low. No surprise there.
  17. I've tried to be patient with Molitor but I really don't have a response to DH.
  18. It's a fine line between logjam and depth. That said, I'm 50/50 on a trade of Dozier, but not purely for the sake of making a trade.
  19. I expect him to play close to as often as Nunez, primarily at SS for the remainder of the season. Escobar taking the rest of the positions in relief. Then in the offseason, we have the annual "who is the starting SS" discussion. Anoint a starter, swap him out by May for the other guy. Why do I think this? I just feels like they've decided Escobar is a utility guy (again). Which is always subject to change. That, and 2B and 3B are already stocked. Depth is good. Hamstrings pull every day.
  20. That's exactly why there's a fine and dangerous line between "fire sale" and "rebuilding".
  21. I want to agree, but agents and other major sports show clear evidence that it can happen. What about Appel not signing 4 years ago, or Bo Jackson or Eli Manning in NFL. It's only a matter of time, given the money involved.
  22. I agree they're probably "listening," but a tiny fraction of the trade rumors we hear ever happens, and most are based on media speculation. My assumption is they're looking for someone with a higher ceiling than Gibson, but someone who is a current top prospect (though probably in the 50-100 range).
  23. Do we really think they'd sell low after giving up so much for him, regardless of performance over half a season?
  24. I'd say even then. What happens if the player doesn't sign because he doesn't like what he's seen?
  25. I'm opposed to tanking in all sports. Wrong message to send, besides the bad product on the field. Plus, with the unpredictability of baseball drafts, it just seems silly.
