  1. I don't think you can trade recently drafted players either. There's (at least used to be) a waiting period of 6 or 12 months after signing.
  2. I'd consider a Rick Reed type player now, but that's about it. Nothing that requires any high end talent. Re-explore around the All Star Break.
  3. It's off the Palka/Park topic, but I think pinch hitting or pinch running in the 7th is always questionable, as you end up with a lesser bench bat coming back to the plate against the closer two innings later. Shades of Gardy's replacing Thome with young Plouffe all over again.
  4. Most teams carry two backup IF, don't they? Plus, he's the go-to pinch hitter right now (which is a whole different problem). In other words, I see no signs he's on the outs with the team. Pure speculation. What this team needs for versatility is a true defensive outfielder/pinch runner on the bench so starting OF can get a full day off now. But they'd need to drop one of their dead weight pitchers for that, which is never going to happen.
  5. Meet tomorrow afternoon's RF: Kennys Vargas.
  6. Sounds great, but we once felt that way about Arcia too. I think I'm jaded on the prospects of 2014-2016.
  7. Yeah, Vargas is a victim of the logjam at 1B/DH, and that's not even including Park yet. He's getting fairly regular at bats, which is okay. It could be more, but it's not like he's riding the bench.
  8. He started yesterday.
  9. Frankly, it's irrelevant what any of us have ever done. This is about an MLB player. The rest is just ad hominem.
  10. If Stuart is returned to the Twins, does he have to be added to the 40 man?
  11. Pro sports, where grown men get paid to act like boys. It's too bad he's still carrying a grudge when the change of scenery allegedly is what made his career. But whatever. Why should I care what he thinks?
  12. I wouldn't expect anything respected for a veteran who was demoted to AAA at any point in the year. I'd expect an A baller "with upside," (like the Lohse trade) though maybe you could get a AA player if the market for SP is strong.
  13. These lists are interesting in how they reflect the slow path to the minors, especially for the Latin American players who sign when super young.
  14. I have no idea how they do it. But, if hitters are constantly making adjustments, would it do a team any good to pull out an old (outdated) scouting report on a player? I feel like they'd have expiration dates on their relevance.
  15. In a sense, yes. I'm guessing most teams don't pull out their 2015 scouting reports.
  16. Vargas always seems to do well his first time around the league, then goes cold. It will be interesting to see if he makes adjustments this time.
  17. Maybe the manager should let him work out his kinks when there's a 5 run lead instead of using his best arms in those situations.
  18. Let's stop pretending that trades are one-sided affairs where one team "wins" and the other "loses." As for this transaction, it's the equivalent of a minor league signing.
  19. I don't think this is your point, but I'd say if his arm doesn't hurt anymore than the surgery did him more good than bad, regardless of his performance on the field.
  20. Santana hasn't made a single out or error for ATL yet. Hosed again.
  21. Was Kintzler available? He'd thrown a lot of pitches in his previous two outings.
  22. That look on his face when he looks up after hitting it is priceless. I'm not sure if he's excited or surprised.
  23. I think it's been Minnesota's past time as long as I can remember. It's just usually reserved for the weather.
  24. It's a little silly, but it's how it's done. And I'd rather have Kitzler on reserve for that situation than vice versa.
  25. In the NFL, sure. In a sport with minor leagues and a 162 game season there are a lot more variables.
