  1. It wasn't at the time. No big tears were shed on the board when the trade was made. Hicks then had a typical terrible year his first year with the Yanks. The following year hindsight clicked in.
  2. This is the greatest move since the Yankees bought George Herman Jr.
  3. I would start Hildy in Rochester. Magill out pitched him by a large margin last season.
  4. There is more than enough room for both. His rebounding is practically a sure thing.
  5. Astudillo is the flavor of the month but still good depth and valuable. Assuming both of our catchers are healthy, I can see us trading Castro if another team's regular catcher comes up injured. They will move Castro no later than the deadline.
  6. I like this move, but I have no problem with Adrianza either. With this move, another extension or so, presto changeo and we're nearing last year's payroll.
  7. So when did these guys become above average relievers? Rodney and Duke are far better and the board was not at all happy we signed them last season. I suppose I should be grateful for small favors. For the first time in the history of this board a free agent has been embraced by membership(Cruz).
  8. Kinley was on the team 2 weeks or so. Moya was another mistake. Common sense dictated, they had to let the Hughes thing play out and they hit a grand slam there. Those fools in San Diego gave us 7.25M for the 74th pick in the 2109 draft. That's the stuff of legends.
  9. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a low level deal on another reliever, but then again I have no problem with Magill. He did a good job as a long reliever and they started to use him in high leverage situations toward the end of the season. I think I read payroll is at 106M. Another extension or so, and we're getting there. I'm ecstatic the Pohlads are letting us sign our own players. I not expecting much else. The new regime, much like the old one, is operating with one hand tied behind their back, and I don't expect that to ever change.
  10. The ceiling on this franchise is dominating the Central. I think it's wonderful you want to see a World Series, but it won't happen with the Pohlads holding the pursue strings. Attendance is fine. I'm downtown on game days quite a bit, because my wife likes the restaurants on the Nicollet Mall when the weather is nice. No one is carrying any pitchforks. Still the same old enthusiasm.
  11. You convinced me. That would be a killer pen.
  12. I thought about a QO for Schoop also. My guess is, it really depends on how close Gordon and Lewis are. Schoop has got to be one of the best pick ups this offseason. We picked up 3 starters, 2 placeholders in Parker and Perez, and depth in Torreyes. Free agency is more than just signing the most expensive thing on the menu.
  13. The Pohlads could care less if we ever make it to the World Series and I'm not sure I will see a 140M payroll in my lifetime. They saved MLB in Minnesota, don't expect anything else. I'm ecstatic they are allowing us to sign our own players.
  14. We added Romero and Parker. May and Mejia only gave us 25 innings each last season. Looks to me like we have added a lot already. Too many members confuse free agency with Christmas. Also, Reed being comeback player of the year is a lock.
  15. There's no making up in baseball.
  16. My favorite is when they gave us 7.25M for the 74th pick in the 2019 draft. The White Sox were handed one of the best prospects in baseball when King Theo traded for a back of rotation starter.
  17. I'm just happy the Pohlads appear they will allow us to retain our own players. No way we can compete with the large market teams or the occasional misguided wannabes.
  18. I don't think they are going to trade their prospects, not unlike TR. We basically have 3 drafts. Rule 4, IFA, and the trade deadline. And no, they don't have to throw in the towel to have a very active deadline. They showed that in 2017. It's all about asset management to them. When Severino became available from the Braves, we jumped all over him because we came close previously. Look at how many IFA's we picked up at the 2018 trade deadline. I'm guessing we are using our extensive IFA expertise to target these prospects when they become available on the trade market. If we make a blockbuster trade, it will most likely involve the core of 4 plus Rosario and Polanco.
  19. I'm guessing Thorpe is the one who rises to the top. We have a ton of flexibility. If we can't keep Thorpe down on the farm, it will be painless to DFA Perez. On the relief side, same with Parker. Neither one is a Hughes type deal, where we need to find, as some unnamed GM was quoted as saying, an insane GM.
  20. Anyone who has lived in Chicago, knew it was never going to happen. Reinsdorf is the only owner I know worst than the Pohlads.
  21. I think all the good things are going to happen and none of the bad.
  22. He was a good administrator and the only FO employee ever popular on this board. If you want to know the truth about who actually made the final decision contact LaVelle or feel free to meet me at the downtown library at 300 Nicollett Ave. at your convenience.
  23. How do you know there is a wait and see attitude with Buxton and Sano? You're confusing signing first with offered first.
  24. I agree with you, we were bringing up our top prospects too early. That lead to the ouster of TR because of our disastrous 2016 season. He compounded it, by having no plan B.
