  1. Trade deadline 2017. Do you really want to badmouth Astudrillo on this board?
  2. I don't see it . He was terrible in September. Once " cute relievers" are caught up with, they generally don't bounce back.
  3. They said the 52% was over time. There are death, taxes, and my favorite team is owned by the Pohlads,
  4. Asset management. If a starting catcher goes down we could get a haul. My guess is he gets moved at the deadline for young starting pitching prospects.
  5. Any way you can show us where this has been repeatedly said?
  6. Last August we got rid of a bunch of 2 month rentals and beefed up our farm system. It was a no-brainer. Look for them to do the same thing this year.
  7. The new regime is all about asset management. At the deadline, I assume they will stock up on pitching below Rochester.
  8. That is probably the best trade the new regime has made. A little over a year of Pressly for 2 solid prospects. Actually the CF was in rookie league.
  9. Castro is as solid as they get defensively. It will be interesting though, because he will be dealt at some point in time and the much awaited Astudillo era will begin.
  10. If Stewart and/or Gonsalves are ready, these guys don't get a roster spot. When they are ready, you cut these guy. It's not that difficult a concept. The Yankees just made a move like this. Sanchez is a good example. He was the first starting pitcher we signed last off-season, on a very low risk deal and the board had kittens. When we got Odorizzi and Lynn, he was gone within 30 days.
  11. The ship doesn't sail for 4 years. If he wants to become rich before then, there is only 1 number he can call.
  12. Picking up a starting pitcher on a non-guaranteed deal is a can't lose situation. Why not.
  13. I would say it's unlikely all 3 are gone. It is likely we can pencil in 2 of Thorpe, Mejia, or Romero. 2020 is still a long ways away.
  14. I doubt there was more than a couple of relievers than became valuable at 22-23.
  15. Mejia or Romero will start the season in the pen. Fair chance Stewart will also. 2 of those 3, plus Gonsalves, Littell, DeJong, and sometime during the season Thorpe, will be emergency starting pitching depth. If the search committee had selected me, I'd trade for a youngish 2/3. There is nothing to wait for, the Central is just sitting there. Overpay with prospects from our very deep and talented farm system.
  16. IMHO this was a weak free agency market this season. As of this moment, the market for starting pitching looks much better next year. I'm still hoping we trade for at least a solid 3, and pick one more solid reliever. Two more solid moves to go with the 4 solid moves we have already made. We are in good draft position, few teams do as well as we do in IFA, and we have seen 2 years in a row, they will be very active at the trade deadline. Time to open up the farm system for trades.
  17. The rebuild ended in 2017 when we were the first team in the history of baseball to lose 100 games and make the play-offs the next season. I recall several members telling you this. I really don't care what most people think and projections are merely guesses. I do recall all of the board's writers except for 1 or 2 predicted we would make the play-offs last season. I have more faith in those guys. Do any of these most people have names I would recognize? I can't imagine one of the talking heads would state the rebuild wasn't completed in 2017. Every year in every sport, teams falter when they can't get their best players on the field.
  18. Manny and Harper are going to large market teams. When a mid-market team pretends they can play with the big boys bad things happen. Think Cano and Greinke.
  19. Brewers, A's, and Braves took less time. Tampa hasn't made the play-offs since 2013 and the Rockies took longer. In no case was any rebuild much, much faster. In fact all were fairly close. I can't help but remember an article I read in BA years ago. The crux of the article was it takes a mid-market team a minimum of 6 years to do a complete rebuild. Feel free to contact the boys down in North Carolina if you want a copy. They are very helpful.
  20. Can you give the board the names of mid-market teams which have rebuilt much, much faster? I can't help remembering you posted the Phillies rebuilt much faster recently. They haven't made the play-offs since 2011.
  21. Every team in baseball would have done the same thing. Every single one.
