  1. May has one more year and no trade value. Wouldn't be surprised to see him disappear like Mejia. If A-Stud comes back healthy, believe they will take anything they can get for Castro. I see Gibson or one of the others getting a QO.
  2. Actually, all of our free agents have been much better than you figured this year. No need to always buy the most expensive thing on the menu.
  3. Try and find an ace without giving up Lewis and Kirilloff. Like Nick Nelson said the other day, there are 30 #1's in baseball, but only 10-12 aces.
  4. Just sit back and watch. The new regime is all about asset management. They won't let those with expiring contracts just walk if they can get some kind of return.
  5. I was hoping for a 3. Someone we could trust to pitch a play-off game. I didn't expect an 2/3 type for two years at 10M. With Berrios, Gibson, and Odorizzi/Pineda looks to me we have it covered. I've penciled in Romero and Thorpe for next season.
  6. That's why you hang on to him as long as possible. We have him 2 years after this one, no need to panic, especially since he hasn't been healthy. He's turning 26 shortly, look how long it took Cruz to shine. Plenty of similar examples.
  7. It surprised me how many teams only had one lefty in the pen last season. One thing Molly did well last season was to get the lefty out of there as early as possible. I believe Mejia will be DFA sooner rather than later. I have no problem auditioning Vasquez or Moya as long as they have a relatively short leash. We need this situation fixed no later than the deadline.
  8. I'm sure they will sell some of the expiring contracts for prospects, but they will make win-now moves. No reason you can't do both. Reed and Castro will probably not yield major league ready pitching, but presumably have trade value if healthy. Depending on who they decide to retain, we should be able to get pen arms for Gibson, Pineda, and/or Ordirizzi.
  9. I'm not a season ticket holder, but go to 15-20 games per year, only when it's warm. I played college baseball in North Dakota and I'm still thawing out.
  10. If they want better attendance all they have to do is wait for it to warm up. Also the Cruz signing was a big win-now move. They are still evaluating their current bullpen arms, and yes mid-market teams never stop evaluating. Harper is likely gone and Magill is not helping his case. I would not be surprised to see Mejia and board favorite May disappear. They will make plenty of moves at the deadline.
  11. The leash isn't short on Buxton and won't be on Sano. Think David Ortiz.
  12. I believe teams would come out of the woodwork to trade a decent pitcher or two. We have 2 more years of control after this season, he's cheap, plenty of time to deal once he's healthy etc. Let's not forget prior to 2018, some members wanted to DFA Pressly and Gibson. No need to panic.
  13. It makes no sense to sell low at this time. Members are still unhappy about David Ortiz 15 years later.
  14. I have no clue when he maybe available. My understanding is he injured his thumb on his non-pitching hand.
  15. Many did want Hunter. He's going to miss well over a year due to TJ. Last I looked he was rated around 50th on the top 100 prospect list. As I heard it, scouts don't like the movement on his fastball.
  16. I'm guessing they are waiting to see what they have before trading for a relief pitcher at the deadline. Romero, May, and Mejia all have good stuff, but haven't worked themselves into the mix(Reed may well be done). I'm hoping they spend big. So many teams went dumpster diving this offseason to fill their bullpens.
  17. Gonzalez is not terrible and A-Stud is the flavor of the month. He just established his market value. The folks on MLBTR had him going for considerably more. Solid signing.
  18. A lot can happen between Friday and Tuesday, that's why all teams usually wait until the last minute to make roster moves. I've been around the game long enough where I don't become unglued when we lose a game to one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.
  19. Romero was handled well, he just performed poorly. It happens.
  20. We've seen other teams poach our pitchers and watched most of them fall flat on their faces.
  21. Once you make it to The Show, you can throw minor league numbers out the window.
  22. After Gibson's first 7 starts did we know everything about him? How about May after his first 8, or Berrios after his first 14? 80%+ of all new starting pitchers go though the same process. They need to take their lumps to develop.
  23. Last season we got a quick look at Littell, Gonsalves, and Stewart. Stewart was the most impressive.
  24. I can't find much info on Reed either. I believe on Fan Graphs I read he hasn't started his rehab yet. He's the one reliever in the organization whose career numbers show he could go along ways toward fixing our pen.
