  1. Times are a changin'. Free agency in the past 2 years, only one trade deadline this year, the massive number of extensions. Many teams in some form of rebuild or heaven forbid tanking. I'd get on the phone today. Signing a free agent is always a bad alternative, but sometimes a necessary evil.
  2. Obviously more teams will come to the party at the trade deadline, but the board is screaming for action now. No idea who's available, I listed 3 players we don't need at this point in time, that have a least some trade value. Times are a changin'. I'd get on the phone today.
  3. Lewis and Kirilloff need to wait in line. I'm guessing we will extend one or two of Rosario, Buxton, Sano, or Berrios.
  4. Trevor May is not quite a rock, he's an anchor around our necks. Need to move him and Mejia while they still have some type of trade value. Also, since neither have an option left, it would give us flexibility when the shuttle is going full bore.
  5. In 2015 the Astros spent 1M or more on 5 players during IFA with Celestino being the prize at 2.5M. If Buxton walks at free agency time, at this moment, Celestino is the most logical replacement. Pressly is going to regress. Great trade!
  6. We're going to find out this year aren't we.
  7. The prospects they got for a little over one year of Pressly were too good to pass up. That's called selling high. They never would have extended a reliever and Pressly is my odds on favorite to regress this year. It's going to take a few years, but we will win that trade.
  8. That's irrelevant. Perez is a placeholder at a very modest cost. If one of our Rochester arms shines, he'll be DFA. Same is true for Parker. The new regime is all about flexibility. They know they will never be able to pull off a heist like they did in the Hughes deal, where they got 7.25M for the 73th pick in the 2019 draft.
  9. No free agency class has been sparkling for years and of course we will be having the same conversation next year. Just because you didn't like trades we've made in the past doesn't mean we won't make trades in the future. Odorizzi was a good trade.
  10. His line of reasoning was very good. Can 30 GM"s all be wrong? Don't muddy the waters with Gonzalez. That's irrelevant to this argument.
  11. Keuchel is not the only pitcher left on Earth. If they go that route, they have money, players, and prospects to trade.
  12. The board wanted Kershaw, and we had to settle for a #5. Where is our mythical ace?
  13. We spent our money in other places, and didn't go dumpster diving. We still have money, players, and prospects to trade. The night is still young. Ask King Theo wants happens when you spend all your money, you still have glaring holes to fill, and ownership has taken the checkbook away.
  14. I say don't sign anyone who didn't make it to ST. 7 or 8 teams have no intention of contending, get a pen arm from one of them. Dangle Larnach, Mejia, and/or Trevor May.
  15. Burdi is hanging in there that's all. 50/50 we get him back.
  16. So why did you only give one? Keep going, we have nothing better to do.
  17. This is a outstanding example of cherry picking and we are no more conservative in promoting than most teams.
  18. Actually, making the team means everything. Yes it does validate it. Let's see how Bard does on his 2nd try with the Angels. Also, Anderson and I pitched in the same college conference. Obviously it was many years apart and I know nothing about him, except I was told he also played basketball, just like I did.
  19. We gave up nothing, we received nothing in return. Seems like a fair trade to me.
  20. Of course not. There are 100 staff members or so at 1 Twins Way who have nothing to do but things like this. It was misreported as another member pointed out.
  21. More than a few on the board were disappointed we took Royce Lewis instead. He didn't play his draft year and had modest results his first full season. He's still only 19, but Lewis will be in The Show while he's still probably rehabbing.
  22. So that means 2 years in a row our Rule 5 pick up made the team the next year. Haley made the Red Sox last season. Impressive scouting. I recall folks weren't real happy we took either one. Also, maybe I misread or received bad info, but if Burdi clears waivers etc., he has to be returned to us.
  23. He looked good yesterday, but I understand the built in hatred of most of our free agents. Did you hear how cold it was the other day?
