  1. What do the days of yore have to do with anything? Also a member nitpicked using November 1st. Feel free to use January 5th. That's when MLB.com ranked us 4th in their first power ranking of the year.
  2. 101 wins is fine with me. Our young stars still have more ceiling and our loaded farm system is maturing. No, I'm not afraid of the Yankees or any other team. It's only a game.
  3. I believe I read on MBRTR we're sitting at 116M. JD is 20-25M. I have no problem with where we're at or what we're doing.
  4. You have me confused, but I'm going to respond anyway. 10 years ago, Falvey may still have been in college. You want to fire TR twice? There is death, taxes, and the Pohlads are cheap. Why not symbolically organise bake sales and car washes to buy them out?
  5. I never understood fans, who if they don't win the final game, take their ball and go home. I'm guessing it's because my playing days were not over, when teacher stopped pitching to the little boys and girls.
  6. The Twins have millions of loyal and knowledgeable fans. No one is qualified to speak for them. Escobar refused an extension and was traded, which is a commonly accepted policy. It's only a matter of time until we win the Pressly trade.
  7. Too many fans confuse free agency with Christmas. Free agency has been the market of last resort for many years, particularly for mid-market teams. Sustainability is the new black.
  8. No need to wait. MLB.com has us 4th in their first power rankings of the year. We ended last season 4th also.
  9. We missed out on one pitcher because he likes horses and another because his girlfriend and dog prefer being out east. Sign JD and trade for a starting pitcher and we have completed the best offseason in team history. Early on, only Atlanta and our favorite team signed 2 players in MLBTR's top 20 free agents. We were the only one to sign 2 starting pitchers. Impact starting pitcher Odorizi and impact starting pitcher Pineda. At no time did our FO say impact pitching would be restricted to those unfamiliar with where the restrooms were located at Target Field. Also, MLB.com in their first power rankings of the year showed us 4th.
  10. I missed where Pineda got a 6 year contract for $121M-$150M with a 2 year opt out clause. The new regime is significantly better than most teams at trades and development. The big miss this off-season was the Red Sox not pursuing Falvey harder. They should have found a means to move Bets to us in exchange for Falvey. No doubt someday it will rank right there with selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $350,000 cash and $500,000 loan.
  11. No denying Darvish had a very good second half. For those of you keeping score at home, he has now paid for himself 25% of the time since he signed that bad contract. He's a huge injury risk, turns 35 during his 4th contract year, 36 during his 5th, and 37 during his 6th.
  12. We don't need another Mauer contact. Cole doesn't come with a guarantee to win a ring.
  13. At some point in time, pitching becomes a numbers games. In the bullpen, I think we won the numbers game. I like our numbers of young starters, but don't feel we will be in position to win until year end 2020. We're close.
  14. Right now we're in good shape with 3 months to go. The only role I see our fine group of rookies filling is the Pineda void.
  15. My guess is we sign one SP towards the top of the menu. Bring in 2 reclamation projects, up and comers etc., to fight it out for the 5th spot and use our rookies to fill the Pineda void.
  16. Don't forget to factor in he probably had to pee in the worst way.
  17. Going forward we should expect that. When the rumors surfaced that the Red Sox were interested in Falvey, it let the cat out of the bag. If our favorite team is interested, I fully expect the herd to follow. You can only hide excellence for so long.
  18. White Sox or Twins, I'm convinced it didn't much matter to the wife, she wanted to be close to her family. I don't understand it myself, but some people think family is more important than baseball.
  19. I'm prepared to say losing out on Wheeler was out of the Twins hand. A happy wife is more important than a million dollars here and there.
  20. Two wrongs don't make a right. If there truly was a Stupidity Tax, by the time it was our favorite teams turn to pay, Twins Daily would be a distant memory.
  21. You've defined "impact pitching" too narrowly. You've confused it with buying the most expensive thing on the menu. By the end of the 2020 season, we will be able to look back and see a dozen or more examples of "impact pitching", many of which are not apparent at this moment.
  22. I'll take the over. I'm predicting the greatest off season in franchise history.
  23. You could say that about every team in every sport. Any team that comes in second "didn't try".
