  1. 46 years of the DH, and yet we have to play as if it were 1972. Makes no sense.
  2. Speed, power, boos, power, boos x 2.
  3. I don't even have to go to the bathroom. I'm just going to stand in there until Castro's plate appearance is over.
  4. Phillies' announcer, "Traveling on the right fielder."
  5. Some people take a bathroom break between innings; I do when Castro is batting.
  6. My favorite gem from the fivethirtyeight article: "Astudillo remembers a drill in which his father would kneel a few feet away and flick corn kernels toward him in their backyard ... Astudillo’s objective was to hit the knuckling projectiles with a broomstick."
  7. How do you feel about seeing the electronic strike zone before and during every pitch? I hate it. It should be visible for the replay, certainly, but not in real time. Thoughts?
  8. Prediction: Kepler won't be batting lead off in a week.
  9. 3-0, no outs, runners on first and second, pitcher having trouble throwing strikes, and Rosario swings at ball four, eventually flies out ...
  10. Steve, where did you play town ball? It is impressive that you played until you were 30, it shows how much you love the game. I would much rather play than watch, but ...
  11. Hope springs eternal, then the season begins. I'm guessing 78 wins.
  12. He appears to be good for the Twins and for baseball. From the Wall Street Journal 3/6/19: "Astudillo has a strange skill set in today’s major leagues: He actually hits the ball. Fifty-nine players struck out more before the All-Star break last season than Astudillo has in his entire minor-league career." "This man is baseball’s most unlikely, yet most reliable, viral sensation. In a game last September, his mad dash from first to home in 11.63 seconds—cheeks puffing, tongue dangling, long, curly hair swept in the wind—was like “Chariots of Fire”-meets beer-league softball. Astudillo said later he “wanted to show that chubby people also run.” https://www.wsj.com/articles/la-tortuga-is-here-to-save-baseball-11551877201
  13. this is why I no longer comment on the Twins Daily sight. BS.
  14. It looks like the wall (with its windows and ledges and things) around the visiting team's bullpen was designed to hurt a centerfielder's tailbone.
  15. That's funny. I didn't watch the ninth inning. Instead I watched interviews with ex-pat North Koreans on how their countrymen view the U.S. Then I flipped back ... and double play.
  16. A side note: 7.7% of MLB in 2017 is made up of African-American players. This percentage is pretty consistent from year to year. In the NBA and NFL the number of African-American players is much higher. The choice of which game to play lies with the individual athlete. But it is a shame MLB is so under-represddnted. Then on a "sider" note: I'm sure this is not quantifiable, but what is the racial breakdown of fans across the BIG sports in the US? I would say the fans are predominantly white - maybe 80%. Just a guess. Something to examine. Why aren't there more African-American fans, in other words? Ticket prices, perhaps. It just sort of bothers me to see such a predominance of white people in the stands.
  17. Now you know?
