  1. He's leading the league in RISP and only one guy with enough PA's to qualify for the Batting title ahead of him in average. So maybe the bigger question is how is he able to drive in as many runs as he has with guys in front of HIM not getting on base?
  2. Which still leaves a gaping hole in the top 4 if you move Mauer down to the lower half. I may be in the minority but I'm a huge fan of both Hicks & Rosario but neither should be in the top 4 of a contending big league team at this point in their careers.
  3. Good luck selling that to said complainers.
  4. MOST teams that win a World Series do so by getting unprecedented performances both with the sticks and on the hill. If not, they probably would have won the series the year before.
  5. I'd have no problem going with a 6 man rotation but I'd rank them 1-6 and with off days the bottom guys should get skipped in favor of the top guys. I'd even do the same thing with a 5 man rotation.
  6. I will vehemently disagree with the statement that the fans should not pick the all-stars. Fans should ALWAYS pick the all-stars. After all, the game is for the fans. The current system is perfect. Fans select the starters. Players select most of the pitchers and 1 reserve at each position. Managers select the rest except the final selection. Are there going to be issues with fan balloting? Of course. Think there wouldn't be similar issue if the players or managers had more say in the matter? If so you're delusional.
  7. Perkins should be a slam dunk. Every other guy mentioned in the article and thread-close but no cigar. All nice ball players but nary an all-star in the bunch. And that's OK. I'm more concerned about what they do in the real games over the next 4 months and next 4 years for that matter. Would love to see a couple guys go out and play at a level that leaves no doubt. Perk is the only guy who fits that mold thus far.
  8. The seasn MAY only be 39 games old.
  9. I'm not even a fan of the 12 man staff but I think that ship has sailed.
  10. I would hope that Correia's status in Houston would have no bearing on Buxton's here. That would just be foolhardy.
  11. Beats the hell of going to the well and pulling out Darin Mastroiani or Sam Fuld or Alex Presley or Wilkin Ramirez or Clete Thomas.
  12. Do you know what they call guys who have mastered AAA ball? AAA ball players. Move him up. Nothing to be gained by having a guy with 550 big league plate appearances and currently has a .965 OPS in AAA stay in AAA.
  13. That's because they've already unloaded the rest of their players and bring up what's left. Good or bad.
  14. TWO weeks ago we were ready to send Danny Santana to the minors and now he's gotten his average up to .260.
  15. The Kris Bryant comparisons are a little off base because he's 2 years older with 3 season's of college ball under his belt before those 181 minor league games. Buxton himself only has 227 games played since he left high school three years ago.
  16. In spite of his early struggles at Rochester, he's probably been our most big league ready prospect for quite some time now. Hopefully, he hits well enough to make Shafer the odd man out when Arcia's ready to go. After that it's likely only a matter of time before Shane Robinson goes back to being--Shane Robinson and Hicks will replace him by mid June.
  17. You're right, we don't know what has changed. And if you're also right that the only thing that's changed is results, then I'm good with that.
  18. Since neither Mastroianni nor Presley is in the big leagues now I feel that we can safely say we're over them. Maybe even to the point of not calling that situation a debacle.
  19. Pinto has had plenty of opportunity to show he can stop a base stealer or do anything you would expect a big league catcher to do defensively. A small sample of that opportunity has been in the big leagues and nearly 10 years in the minor leagues. HE CAN'T. He's a DH. Nothing more. Deal with it.
  20. Let's let Sano get here and show he deserves the job before we even think about trading what we've got. Denard Span, Ben Revere anyone?
  21. I'd be more concerned if not for the fact that when you read those reports 2 & 3 & 4 years ago, the only one from among Sano, Buxton, Santana & Vargas that was expected to make a contribution prior to 2016 was Sano and obviously the injury has set him back at least half a season. I'd also be more concerned if all the reports regarding the strength of our system were coming from 34 Kirby Puckett Place but most of those reports were coming from the same sources as the reports about the Cubs & Astros systems. I understand the urge to blow it up but also remember that when that happened in 1982 it still took 5 years to exceed the .500 ball threshhold. Not sure if in today's McDonald's world where we don't want to wait for anything, the fanbase is going to accept blowing it up and waiting 5 years for the payoff-hence the desire to try to bring the kids along slowly and work them into a group that you would at least hope you can try to contend with. Bottom line is there is no right way and no wrong way. The only way that matters is the one the eventually works.
  22. The problem with continuing to teach Santana to play CF is that if he's still playing there in 2 years this team will be set back a decade.
  23. I'm not sure anyone ever really thought of Plouffe or Dozier as a long term shortstop in the bigs. Not sure why they would have. Santana went to CF not because of his lack of ability at SS but because of a lack of options in CF.
